Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just had a week at this great hotel in Downing with some golfing friends. The rooms are superb and the food excellent. Above all the staff are so friendly and helpful, so if travelling to this part of Ireland this place is definitely worth a look.

Checked in on Tuesday evening for a wee treat for my daughters 11th birthday. It’s been an amazing couple of days - we have been made to feel so welcome. The staff have gone out of their way to make our stay memorable and special. It’s the kind of reception and hospitality that I remember back when I was a kid - very rare today. Big massive thank you to everyone at Downings Bay - you have made two girls very happy!

I Frequently visit Downings which despite Covid has made a remarkable come back with the famously warm Irish welcome and charm truly making a come back! A family gathering of 8 booked in with the Bay Hotel. We were running late and called in advance. Staff at desk were really helpful and reminded us we needed table to be vacated at 6pm. That was understandable and absolutely fine with us. Starters and main wrapped up at 5.25pm. At 5.30pm we were offered dessert from the waitress. At 5.42pm the same waitress came out and abruptly told us we can’t have dessert as we were late and table was required for 6pm. 3 disappointed kids couldn’t have their ice cream and were upset. I went up and asked to speak to the manager to explain that in fact it was only 3 kids Ice creams and we would be gone for 6pm. Another waitress marched down to me and stated ‘you can’t have dessert and another higher manager made the call’. Shocking treatment all together and a real sour taste left for us. Fully appreciate the challenges of hospitality industry over recent times however there is no excuse for this. We won’t be back!

I have been going to Drownings all my life, usually I would have stayed in our mobile home and only over the past couple of years I have stayed in local accommodation. I have stayed now 5-6times in this hotel and all I can say is SPECTACULAR!!! from the beautiful spacious clean rooms to the wonderful attentive caring staff, the food is second to none fabulous!. I have known the family for years and I can say they are just wonderful people. I am now having my wedding in the beautiful Drownings Bay hotel this year and I am so at ease knowing that everything will be perfect as that is what you receive when you stay in Drownings Bay Hotel!! Perfection.

The entire experience was flawless, service, food and bedrooms were all as you would expect. The atmosphere on the bar at night was electric. We will most definitely be returning to this hotel. The area has breathtaking scenery no matter in what direction you travel. 2 3 fabulous beaches also close by.

Fantastic service! Charlee took the time to get to know us and have the craic with us. Julie and Eimear had a real knack for keeping the flow going especially with all the regulations. Even under pressure from pent up demand they were well able

Great hotel, without a doubt the best in the area. High standard of rooms and the staff and owners cannot do enough for you - very friendly and professional. The location is right on two of the nicest beaches in Donegal and the local shops and bars are excellent. Will definitely be back.. Thank you all in the Downings Bay for making our family weekend special.

Booked for 4 nights and for a 3-star hotel, it ticked all the boxes. Room very clean, decent size & very comfortable bed. The breakfast was very good and the bar food was excellent. There was a great choice on the menu and didn't skimp on the portions. I was told it was the best place to eat in Downing and I was not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and helpful and would totally recommend this hotel and will be back next year. Great location for golfers. Thanks to all as had a great stay.

Stayed here for 1 night. Arrived late evening, the welcome was fantastic, food in the bar was excellent, well above what I had expected. A special mention has to go the ladies on reception and in particular Joan. They helped me with a request and were extremely accommodating 👏👏👏👏👏
