Our second visit this year and we were pleased to see that nothing had changed. The log fire is constantly tended by one or other of the staff, there is no piped music or other suchlike distraction, well- behaved dogs and children are welcome (the children until 9pm anyway), the cask ales are properly kept and the food is tasty... This is a small pub and we struggled to get a table in the half term week. We managed to book for the last night of our holiday and we had booked the table by the fire. When we turned up at 7.30, our table had been given to another couple and they said we were booked in at 6.45.... More

Four of us were staying at a self-catering property close by and stumbled on this pub on our first night. Fabulous selection of local beers, very knowledgeable and helpful staff and delicious food - what more could you ask for? Needless to say we were there every night, booking is essential if you want to eat. Which we did on... More

This is a very cosy pub with a welcoming fire near the Beatrix Potter Hill Top Farm House. Excellent lunch, good beer and wine. Get there early as it can get full. Looks like a very good B&B. If the lunch is anything to go by their breakfast will be very good. Very friendly and helpful staff.

After a morning tramping around Grizedale we decided to go to Hiil Top to have a look. After our look around the house we were hungry so popped into the pub, Roast beef on brown bread delicious! Overall a good experience, would use again.

A great lunch of sandwiches. Full of flavour and filling. Teas and coffees also available alongside normal pub drinks. Sat by a lovely warm fire. Wonderful old country style. Range of traditional seating. Friendly staff. Only disappointment it wasn't open hor morning coffee.

After a visit to Hilltop decided to go into the pub for lunch. Initially had a pot of tea before I was going to catch the bus to Hawkshead, but missed the bus. I went back into the pub and decided to have lunch. The staff were very pleasant and friendly, answering any questions I had. When I went back... More

Visited this pub after going to see Beatrix Potters Hill Top. It was a horrible rainy day. We were warmly greeted with a lovely log fire in this atmospheric pub. Enjoyed a beer and sandwich before facing the rain again. Delicious sandwich made with good bread and the usual Cambrian ham. My number one find of the holiday.

Nice proper country pub. Probably need to book for food as beatrix house next door sends patrons this way. Nice sized rooms keep it quaint. Nice selection of real ales and friendly staff. Small beer garden with a few seats but great view to mull over.
