Honeymooning in style. An open fire, fine dining and cuisine at this historic site that made us feel so relaxed and replete in every way possible. Waited on by Jennifer in our own private dining room with adjacent private facilities was priceless, Heaven. Absolute heaven.

It was great to meet you both and thanks for the wonderful review. A stay in the guesthouse is supposed to be memorable so I am pleased that your experience in the historic guesthouse was so positive.

Warm welcome, comfortable room with beautiful view, excellent evening meal with host relating interesting history of this delightful old building. Love the big open fire. We just have to keep returning as often as we can!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. It's great to get feedback and certainly have customers who make it a point of bringing friends to TopHouse to experience the guesthouse. I hope the rest of your trip went well, despite the weather!

great location for something a little different, good coffee served in a pretty cup and saucer, and a carrot cake worth stopping for. great service too. a wander through the rooms was like stepping back in time, most interesting - and the tiny bar well worth a look.

Thanks for the review. That's what I like about TopHouse. It is not your standard cafe or hotel. It's more of an experience. We're now listed in the 2015 NZ version of Lonely Planet, so that says something!

My family and I had come to the Nelson lake area for the snow. We drove about but only found small isolated patches of snow. parked up near one of the biggest area sand went to play. Short time later decided to drive to the Tophouse restaurant for a warming meal. Wife then found she had parked up with the...

Sunday lunch. As it was a sunny warm day we ate outside at tables located on a flat grassy area with views of the surrounding hills and countryside. Dining inside is lodge style; a single long table at which all guests sit in front of a large open log burning fire. Service is relaxed and informal but attentive and welcoming....

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. I am glad you enjoyed your lunch. As our menu ( specials ) change with the season and weather you may have had our Beef Hotpot and the Spinach and Cheese Filo. Both dishes are ranked high by our guests. I hope to see you again some day!...

My partner and I spent ANZAC weekend there and we had a fantastic time. Jennifer was really welcoming and helpful. We stayed in one of the self contained chalet (not the best place to stay in Winter as they are quite cold but we can't wait to come back in Summer to enjoy the outdoors!) that had 2 heaters, a...

Thanks C & R for your review. It was lovely to meet you both and I wish you well. Winter came a bit early didn't it and at 700m above sea level it's always a couple of degrees cooler here than down the valley. Thanks for coming to TopHouse on the recommendation of staff at the Nelson Lakes Visitor Center. Obviously he would not recommend the cafe/ Guesthouse if it had a poor reputation. I remember the 4 of you arriving on quite a 'high' Greg had obviously aroused your expectations. As it was Good Friday I was there alone and the unfortunate thing...

Greg from the visitor centre recommended we visit Jennifer for coffee cake fire and the murder suicide story. Thanks for taking the time to place a comment on TripAdvisor. TopHouse is as you say a Historic Gem as it is the only 'Historic Guesthouse' made of cob left on the South Island.
