#2 of 6 B&Bs / Inns in Cassibile
La Casa di Melo is an ancient Sicilian farmhouse, built at the beginning of the 19th century. It's surrounded by a luxuriant organic citrus plantation, the green lung of our 150 hectares farm. My father, Giuseppe, taught me that living in a cleaner environment, along with eating better and respecting nature, are the basics for a better and happier life, with a lighter impact on the environment. That's why we decided to renovate the farmhouse. We are a family and we run this place with the goal to make you feel at home, sharing our love for nature and our respect for the environment. In the property we have 6 dogs living in totally freedom so if you are scared of dogs or looking for an all-inclusive place, an ordinary b&b, this place is not for you.

The hotel is in a rural area, near the small town of Cassibile. To arrive it is important to follow the tips sent by the hotel, because our GPS has missed the way. The location is great for visiting the beautiful cities of southern Sicily as well as the beautiful beaches. The property is very beautiful, in a quiet place, with a beautiful pool and the room is clean and very spacious. Breakfast is good and served outside, with the company of the pleasant dog Nino. As a suggestion, the hotel could improve the quality of WiFi and provide maps and tourist information of the area.

We only had 3 nights sadly but La Casa di Melo was a delightful base from which we could explore the area. Unfortunately we arrived very late on our first night which is understandably discouraged - this is very much a working farm. If you're a late night party animal this is not the place to stay! It has a lovely calm about it though. A stunning pool, a garden with lovely touches such as hammocks to sit in, the option to order a craft beer to enjoy by the pool, divine fresh produce at breakfast and a sumptuous organic buffet style supper which you can pre-book. We enjoyed chatting to the owners and particularly learning about local wines. We were also given a great recommendation for dinner in the local town. As long as you understand the spirit of Agriturismo you will thoroughly enjoy your stay here.

As other reviews showed, a very good B&B. Friendly staff, excellent rooms. We had TheI Limetti room, with a great terrace. Breakfast was very good, but to be honest, the meal we reserved the first evening, after a late floght, was not very famous. A better option is to have dinner in Cassibile. A fantastic pool, but we missed parasols, no shadow. An excellent place to discover Syracuse!

This is a lovely, quaint farm house in a quiet location. Our room was spacious and well equipped with a private terrace which was a nice addition. The pool was lovely and I would say that the photos on their website are a true reflection of how the place looks. However, upon checking in at around 4pm we attempted to make a reservation for dinner but were told that we couldn’t as this had to have been made before 12pm. We were very disappointed by this as we were only staying for one night. This is definitely information that should be better communicated upon booking! (Having checked their website, it only says “reservation welcome” regarding dinner). After getting back from a distinctly average pizza in nearby town Avola at 8.45pm, we were looking forward to sharing a bottle of wine by the picturesque pool. However we came back to discover that the entire place was deserted- lights switched off, no one around whatsoever and the dining area locked- an extremely peculiar and strange atmosphere. We had little choice but to go straight to our room and to bed! Very odd indeed. There are notices on the wall that say you are not allowed to bring outside food and drinks into the common area, but you are not able to purchase anything either? It doesn’t make much sense. (I later discovered that the bar closes at 8- surely make people aware of this upon checking in?!). Such a beautiful place let down by a lack of any service or atmosphere in the evening. I understand that this is a farm, so perhaps it is better to view it as a farm first & foremost and a hotel second. I would not return as I personally don’t like going to bed at 9pm when I am on holiday, however I am sure that the dinner would be lovely as breakfast was delicious!

Response from LaCasadiMelo2009, Proprietario at La Casa di Melo - Organic Farm Hotel

On our website it is clearly written that reservation for the evening aperitivo buffet (not a restaurant dinner with table service) are welcome until 12pm. We only cook for the number of people that are joining otherwise kitchen is closed. We don't cook and waste food if nobody is there. However we always tell our guests about this service clearly at any check in. You agreed and now are complaining, that's so sad. Anyway, if there is people eating than we have a service available until 9pm or later. If nobody eats kitchen is closed. We do not leave kitchen area unattended so this is why when we leave we close the door. It's our policy, we have rules, so be it. This is just a 3 star agriturismo nothing more but you people do not understand and keep complaining about services and things that probably are more of a 4/5 star hotel not of a farm house. You want a drink late at night or towels for the pool, you want to check in late or before our time schedule, you want a shuttle bus to reach the nearby Siracusa, wifi in the bathroom, reception 24h a day and many other things and services that we could mention but that are not part of our reality because this is just an agriturismo. If you don't want to come back it's fine, our advice for you is: next time choose wisely and read carefully information on the place that you want to go to or just call to ask for something just to make sure. At that point you can get out of the gate and write anything you want about the place but before that be a helpful guest and tell these things when you are checking out instead of here. It's so unfair. Good luck.

We've experienced the real definition of HOLIDAYS at La Casa di Melo❤️ Everything was absolutely flawless - it was the perfect place to disconnect while always being right next to key towns and beautiful white sandy beaches. The delicious breakfast is home made by Roberta who cooked some of the most delicious food we've ever had (i.e. parmiggiana!) If you ever have the opportunity, you should definitely have dinner here at least once and she'll make you enjoy the best Sicilian traditional dishes with their local organic products, accompanied by a good selection of autochthonous wines. The pool area is beautiful and relaxing and the rooms are cozy, spacious and very clean. Most importantly, Caterina, Lorenzo and Chiara were always so kind and available, making us feel completely at home <3 (and their adorable doggies as well😊). It was thanks to their recommendations that we ended up in the best beaches, places and restaurants. We could not recommend this place more. It really is a bit of heaven on earth💕
