Cant miss this place if you are swinging past morar. Dropped in for dinner and a drink ; The bar was more receptive to our orders than the restaurant. Food was average though the portions were decent.

Thank you for your review. Please note at busy times, the restaurant needs a dinner reservation and your best bet would be bar food instead. We are always pleased to see people, but please ring ahead, since we do have bookings and pre-booked tours stopping by.

First impressions were a little Fawlty Towers-y – a sprawling hotel with just a few staff. Enquiries about room availability were answered factually and it took a good while to get a smile out of the proprietor but we eventually did. We booked to stay during a day out from nearby Arisaig with the sea view being the main draw...

Thanks for the great comments. I note the stay was some 16 months ago and of course there have been many changes then, like the in-room wifi, bespoke gin menu, new hot water system; the list goes on..... The way to the beach does cross a rural "A" road and your comments are correct; visitors need to exercise extreme care...

We own a guest house in Inverness so our weekends away are limited. 'Itison' advertised a 2 night stay deal at the Morar hotel in a sea view room. I emailed the hotel requesting availability for the last weekend in October and IF available, pencil me in before buying the deal. I picked up the reply the following day with...

Thank you for your kind comments. We aim to achieve complete relaxation for guests and nothing is too much trouble. We often take for granted the quality of the sea air here but honestly, it is so easy to have a great night's sleep here when the fresh air is on your doorstep with that fabulous view out to Rum....

Myself and my partner has just returned from a 2 night break in the Morar Hotel and it was absolutely perfect!! From initially making the booking on the telephone with Stuart to arriving on the day, being allocated our room (sea view room 25) and having dinner and drinks in the bar the staff working in the hotel make everything...

With thanks for your kind thoughts. It's so refreshing to read about the efforts being rewarded. The staff are happy and cheerful in this remote rural location and I am very aware of the sacrifices they make, so thank you once again. I shall pass on the praise!

I have just spent three days at this wonderful hotel. The proprietor and his staff are very friendly and do everything they can to make you comfortable. It is an old fashioned hotel, and the rooms are very comfortable. In addition, the views of the sea lock are wonderful, looking out to the isles of Rum and Skye. Sunrise is...

Thank you so much for your kind review on the food, comfort and staff service. We work hard to ensure guests' needs are met and given the setting, Morar is the perfect place for a relaxing break. Generally we get it right but Fridays are very popular with locals and camp sites so we would advise on this day to...

Staying at the Morar was a really welcome tonic and completely relaxing. Stuart and his team are so welcoming and cheerful, providing excellent hospitality. This was our first visit to this location and the setting and surroundings are a real treat. We arrived by train - just opposite the hotel- and were able to explore the local area by foot...

Thank you for your kind comments. Coquilles St Jacques is indeed one of our favourites also. The team strives very hard to ensure guest needs are met and good food, comfort and cleanliness are top of the list. The train does make it easy and we look forward to welcoming you back to Morar someday!

I had my tea in here a couple of nights running. Food was great. The bar is really nice, proper old school hotel bar area. The new owners are trying hard, and it's working. Worth dropping in on a Thursday night particularly. There's a cute quiz that kicks off around 8, which is worth a visit in itself.

Stuck in the 60's this hotel is unlikely to make it to 21st century standards without a total rethink. Our room (25} had mould round the bath, a dirty floor and bath panel and the shower curtain kept falling off as it was balanced on the wall tiles. We found your intrusive questioning unacceptable since most guests come here to enjoy the scenery and walking, not to delve into other people's business and learn all the waiters' names and backgrounds. The room was clean and functional infact, but you omit 21st century features like a new hot water system, contract laundry, excellent food along with free wifi, barista...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Recently taken over and substantially refurbished, one of Scotland's most historic hotels, the Morar Hotel is a friendly family-owned Edwardian mansion house on the romantic 'Road to the Isles', 3 miles from Mallaig, the Southern Gateway to the Isle of Skye. Commanding breathtaking views of the famous Silver Sands of Morar and the Inner Hebridean islands of Rum & Eigg, its panoramic views and comfortable accommodation have made it the perfect coastal escape for many years. Built in 1902, originally as the Station hotel, it is only metres from the train station. Now a modern character hotel with wifi and satellite TV and open to the public, it is only 50 minutes from Fort William by the new road, or an hour by scheduled train services or in the summer by the special Jacobite Steam Train, as featured in the Harry Potter films. The overnight service from London (Euston) leads to Morar Station opposite the hotel and car hire is available in Fort William or Morar. ... more   less
