When is a pie not a pie? Ordered home made Guinness pie from the bar menu and what I got was a Guinness stew with a lump of mashed potato thrown into it. I might be mistaken but I always thought that a pie was a pastry dish or at least something with a crust. My daughter also ordered a chicken burger and was served with a beef burger. Food tasted fine you expect to get what you order!
I have stayed in Connemara Coast many times over the years. So fir my 60th Birthday Treat my friend and I decided we would go there for a nice getaway night to celebrate my milestone birthday. Firstly I want to say all the staff were lovely, but need training in a major way in the Service area. We had booked An Atlantic Suite Room, which has a bedroom, sitting room and a Substantial balcony with table and chairs and a view to die for over Galway Bay.. Bliss. When we arrived, we discovered that there firstly were steps to deal with on way to room. And secondly, the room was a long long walk from Reception, restaurant bar etc. I have walking issues due to heart failure and am on a stick, I asked this when I booked and was assured the room was suitable. There are lovely rooms beside reception, which I have stayed in often but I wanted to sit outside and watch the sea. Which in fairness I did get to do. Anne, the Manager offered to move us but when we explained suggested we have meals in the room, which seemed perfect. We had late lunch on arrival, no cutlery, napkin or condiments! Food was dreadful, toasted special (cold) overcooked chips just presented thrown on the plate with no care or attention. Dinner came with no salt or any condiment yet again(we did get cutlery)phew! Food was even worse than lunch, my mashed potato and ‘seasonal veg’ was thrown into a small gratin bowl mushed together. Fish was lovely but no finesse yet again With presentation. Dessert was delicious but obviously bought in. Really not even a water glass and water on tray. Breakfast was almost inedible. We both had poached eggs, we ordered toast, which came in the form of ‘hot white bread’, brown bread delicious. Eggs were ok, but bacon was cheap cheap cheap, water filled and undercooked. And imagine, no butter or spread of any kind. My friend rang down to reception and After being misunderstood many times was asked how many??. We waited, laughing with what might arrive. A lovely young man arrived with great manners and 4 pats of butter…in his hand? No plate, nothing. We had a good laugh! We did not complain on checking out as Anne came out and we realised she has her hands full. The staff are all young, look like they are all new and really have not a clue. Lovely bunch of young people but need a lot of training in the basics…… It’s the little things. The FOOD however is not to easy to improve. Just get a Food Manager who cares! I was in the catering industry for many years, so I know my stuff. It would take so little to make this experience fab. Really love the hotel, hope they sort it out.…
This is a comfortable hotel, plush and carpeted. Faults are not worth mentioning. Dinner in restaurant was good. I would agree with other reviewers that the Chowder was poor, Ive had much better elsewhere. However the Hake was beautiful sitting on a bed of vegetable, really really nice. The bar has a nice whiskey selection , music in the bar was exceptional. amazing guitarist playing solo stuff. The staff in the bar and restaurant were good, opened a tab for me and never hassled me. When you are here tip the bar staff. I think this place shines as a wedding venue more than a couples place. We went in winter and couldn't get out far for walks. In summer it would be lovely
We stayed here 5 nights while attending a wedding at the hotel. The hotel is beautiful. Location is unreal. Our views from our room were of Galway Bay, the Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher, the Burren! Spectacular. Food was good, service great. Staff friendly and helpful. It was a crazy weekend, 3 weddings in a row and there was never a hitch. Great music in the pub. Highly recommend. Short hop to Galway and you are in the West already.
We booked at short notice for a large family meal to celebrate my children's communions. Not only were they able to facilitate us, we arrived to a personalised menu, in a spacious dining room with easy access to the gardens to the rear wherein the children were able to enjoy the playground and splendid outdoor amenities, while the grown ups could relax, keeping them in sight. Great food, impeccable service and a memory made. Thanks to Brian, Pedro and all the staff!! Max and Frieda will always remember their day as a special one!
Booked this hotel to celebrate our 50 th wedding anniversary and from the moment we arrived we were greeted by friendly receptionist who I think was called Anne . Our room had a great view unto the tennis courts and Galway bay. The room was immaculate and plenty of space. Shower very powerful and room serviced daily. Also in the bar where staff were very quick and efficient. The only thing I would have liked would be that I could have had chips. I am coeliac but they were not available to me as they were not gluten free. Had a meal in the dining room on one evening and it was delicious. The menu was varied and was adapted for coeliac. The staff are lovely and go out of their way to help. Great place for families as they have plenty of outside space with swimming pool and beach walk. Would definitely recommend and hope to be back very soon. Congratulations to the management on a well run hotel.…
We’re just back from a long weekend stay and would highly recommend. We have two kids ( 2.5 and 5 years old) and the facilities and space are really spot on for kids. Everyone was very welcoming and the facilities were ideal - playground, outdoor and indoor spaces, swimming pool and kids club. The location is really amazing overlooking the ocean and the outdoor hot tub is worth a try. Special thanks to the hotel for putting on a great Easter egg hunt which was entertaining for everyone!
Such a lovely stay for a wedding celebration. The hotel itself is well equipped with comfortable large rooms and modern equipment. Our room at the side had a view down the coast. Breakfast was excellent with great choices. Bar meals were good with more vegetarian selections than the restaurant. The wedding reception food was better than you'd ever hope for and they made special dishes for those with special requirements. The gym was well equipped, there's a large pool and my partner and her daughter loved the outdoor hot tub. But the main reason we loved it was the service. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything we needed was done for us and the answer was always yes. In fact they often offered to do things before we asked. Room service was arranged for a time to suit us, for example. Finally the location is glorious with access to the coastline and stunning views, and very easy to get into Galway too.…
Stayed here last night and loved every minute of it. This hotel is beautiful, our room was perfect and the location is stunning! The hotel is spotless, food is delicious too, I really couldn’t find fault. Went as a couple but will definitely be back with my children soon, facilities for a family look super!!
We stopped for lunch on our way around the Wild Atlantic Way and were pleasantly surprised at the beauty of the surroundings that this hotel has to offer, including access to the beachfront and gardens. There is an air of grandeur, and food at the bar is just what we were looking for. The service was extremely good and the staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend!
