Travellers' Choice
Owner operated quirky house for people looking for something out of the ordinary. Gorgeous garden with great views especially from the huge conservatory. Unusual Asian/African feel bedrooms with no wardrobes, just pegs. A sense of fun is the theme and there is opportunity to meet and mingle with other guests.

Having spent a wet day shopping in Bath, 'The House' was a warm and wonderful sanctuary for my partner and me. We were welcomed by our hosts and shown to our fantastic room which had delightful views across the fields. Everything was spotless and we were made to feel much more like guests than as mere customers. We loved the relaxed, first-name terms, atmosphere and were made to feel welcome and valued. Breakfast was utterly delicious - try the eggs Benedict, you won't be disappointed! Thank you Rowena and Mike, we will certainly return!

Hi Dave, Thank you for our first review of 2020! And what a lovely review it is! Everyone else staying were on two or three night breaks and because you and Anne were only with us for one night I didn't feel I'd got to know you as well as the others. So I am really pleased you felt at home and I only wish I'd had time to chat to you two a little more. I do know that you are teachers though and on your half term break. I am heartened by the fact that you said you would return and if you do I hope to get to know you both better, Rowena

I stayed here whilst on a guitar weekend with like minded players. This a lovely old house with large bedrooms and extremely comfortable beds. On that basis alone it is worth a visit, but the thing that makes this an outstanding place to stay are Rowena and Mike. Both introduced themselves as soon as I arrived and I was given a choice of room . As others have said nothing is too much trouble and they are so friendly and helpful. So rare to find people running somewhere with customer service being their top priority. Thank you for making my stay so enjoyable.

Hi Shirley I am ever so sorry not to have replied to your lovely review before now. For some strange reason we did not get any notification of your review so I have only discovered it when a new review came in this week. It seems strange as there were two missed ones. But better late than never I guess. I love Ronnie's guitar courses as everyone is always friendly and you all have a common interest in music. On my part it is so wonderful working to live music. But thank you so much and I am so happy that had a good time and hopefully we may see you again on another course, Rowena

We booked this place as part of a gift voucher we received. The house was perfect! We arrived with a warm welcome from Rowena and Mike, who immediately made us feel welcomed and at ease. Rowena kindly showed us round the whole house, giving us a choice of each room available; all rooms were beautiful. We chose a room with a view of the country fields which was filled with cows, which was rather peaceful to watch. We were a bit uncertain if we would be too far away from bath.. this was not the case and really easy to travel to. A bus arrives opposite the house every 30 minutes to bath (bus stop is outside the house opposite: no sign, locals happily showed us) with a breathtaking 20 minute journey to bath. Next door is a Lovely country pub with an open fire.. perfect for a drink whilst waiting for the bus. An Uber back cost around £15. Overall this was a perfect break for us. Comfortable beds, yummy cookies, Local produce used for breakfast. It almost felt like visiting family, despite just meeting Rowena and mike they make you feel very relaxed. Also loved the house shares a journey of a well travelled couple. Thank you Rowena and mike, We plan on returning very soon with our 2 year old son. Laura and Paul

Hi Laura and Paul Firstly my apologies for not replying earlier. For some strange reason we didn't get notification as we usually do about a new review and I don't tend to go into Tripadvisor unless I am replying to a review. And you gave us such a wonderfully explicit review which I hope will give other potential guests a very detailed picture of The House. If you do come back with your son you will join our little club of guests who come back time and time again after they have children and I have seen so many grow from little ones to teenagers. I look forward to them coming each time as I shall if you come but as age, and along with that, memory, is catching up with me you must remind me in an email about who you are. I will remember after some prompting, I promise, Rowena

Stayed for one night as a base for a weekend in Bath. Ideal location and much better value for money than a city centre stay. Very warm welcome from the owners who go to great lengths to make you feel like you're staying in a friends home rather than a hotel. Beautiful room with loads of space (walk-in wardrobe and huge bathroom) and a really comfy bed. Colonial style decor makes a nice change. Breakfast was delicious and we loved the fact that all produce is sourced locally. Would definitely recommend.

Deborah Of all the guests staying with us I would never have put you or Ray as reviewers so it was a lovely surprise! Pleased you mentioned my colonial style decor as I think sometimes people don't see it as that, they just see that it's different but they don't recognize the colonial connection. Thank you and Ray for choosing us to spend your Ruby anniversary and very happy to hear that you enjoyed yourselves. Rowena

My husband bought me here as a birthday surprise and we loved every moment. The house is quiet, stood in beautiful surrounding. The breakfast is plentiful and Rowena and Mike go to great lengths to ensure everything offered is of the best and freshest quality from either local or uk suppliers. We made use of the snooker table and board games one rainy morning so this was a great addition to the property. As a busy couple we found our stay very relaxing, any questions were answered with ease and I personally could talk with Rowena for hours. Their generosity, kindness and passion pours out, which is what makes this place an absolute treasure. We'll be back and hopefully for longer next time.

Melissa, I hope I've got the right person as I'm not Hercule Poirot so can't always solve the mystery (or murder in his case...)! And if so thank you for a truly wonderful review and it was great to speak at length to two young people who appreciated everything done for them. I was most impressed by the fact that you have both stayed in your respective jobs for a number of years. Good to see such loyalty in young people. And Ryan, hope you're impressed with me pronouncing the name of your company as it should be - the German way! But that was about the limit of my German sadly. You're a lucky girl to have someone like Ryan who went to a lot of trouble to make your birthday just right Melissa and I am very flattered that he chose us to help with it. Thanks for nearly bringing tears to my eyes, Rowena
