The sun was beaming down and a last minute decision to go out for lunch somewhere close, the lunchtime menu was limited but reasonable in price and good value for money but the soft drinks and sweet almost doubled the price. It is worth a visit and the the surrounding countryside is fantastic

We'd heard that The Wheatsheaf was worth a visit but it took friends to book a table for lunch. The staff were charming and went well beyond the norm, especially as we were a large family party which included children. They were given colouring books to keep them quiet while the adults managed to sample some rather good beers, well...

My elderly mother-in-law's favourite - and very good it is, too! Lovely atmosphere, excellent host, very tasty food and not bad prices. Lunch time is for us and the welcome is there. Highly recommended.

The staff were kind and welcoming. Took our orders after we were seated. Everything looked clean and tidy. There's a lovely little pool table in the back and the old fashioned fire is a must-see. I have to say the cheese soufflé was probably the best I've ever had.

When our party of 4 arrived my wife asked for white wine and the other lady asked for shiraz. During our meal the ladies asked for a glass of red wine. The landlord brought 2 glasses and when asked what they were said they were the house Merlot. We hadn't been asked what type of red nor offered a replacement....

The Wheatsheaf Inn is a quaint pub in Egton Village. It was our first visit to the inn but we were made very welcome by the owners and the staff. The food was tasty with plenty of veg, and the 3 adults had lamb, beef & Turkey for main course. Served promptly with 9 different assortments of veg, including roast...

My friends, my husband and I, a party of eight, booked for lunch on New Year's Day. We had the warmest of welcomes from the landlord in the cosy bar with a roaring fire in the range. We ladies targeted this place again this year after trying last year, without success, to get a decent sherry in Whitby and finding...

My family and I planned to visit a number of pubs whilst walking from Goathland to Egton to celebrate my mums 70th birthday. Our group was made up of a mixture of professional and retired men and women aged between 40 and 70. One of the pubs we had chosen to visit was The Wheatsheaf Inn, Egton, a pub I...

I took my parents for lunch at the Wheatsheaf Inn in Egton North Yorkshire today. The pub had a very friendly atmosphere with a very amenable landlord and helpful staff. This was topped off by the lovely food we all had. The wild mushroom soup with black truffle was packed full of flavour and was accompanied by a hot crusty...
