Friday night, and The Forest is a busy place. We came here to eat , so where the restaurant is situated, you are pretty isolated from the din of the drinkers. Opted for the 'legendary' wings, a leftover from the Butchers Social days, dirty fries (but bland these) and the balti pie. Overall, very good 👍 Service was excellent - shout out to Shannon from Melbourne!
Check in was a little strange and had to go and find someone in the bar to check us in. The bathroom wasn't clean and the water pressure was just more than a trickle in the shower. The room was noisy at the front of the hotel. The bed was comfy though.
Both Charlotte & Katie were so much help in the run up to our wedsing day with all my random questions about everything and they were both so responsive and helpful no matter what the questions were! Big shout out to Charlotte who absolutely smashed everything on the day and made it so stress free for us. Her attention to detail was next level! The care she showed to get everything right and how I wanted was unreal! Charlotte took so much stress away from me with getting all the décor up and making the room look amazing and just how I imagined it! Making sure I was happy with everything, talking me through the plan and what was going to be done. Everything was perfect, there was not one thing out of place! The wedding day itself was run so well and we are honestly so happy with everything from start to finish! The staff from breakfast to the last drink of the evening throughout our whole stay were amazing! Everyone was friendly and we felt so comfortable there! The food!! It was next level quality and we were blown away! The way every dietary requirement was catered too was appreciated massively! For example the pescatarian's being served fish and not just a veggie option when we had those requirements also! And of course our guest who had an A4 sheet of allergies, he was blown away with his food and we are so thankful for everything that was done to accommodate. Not only did we have a great day and are so thankful, every guest we spoke to commented on the amazing food, brilliant staff and accommodation if they stayed! We want to do it all over again and it honestly is all down to everyone at the Forest Hotel!…
Splendid small hotel with new owners gradually refreshing and refurbishing the premises. Dark non-refurbished decor within corridor areas a little gloomy Accommodation in room 6 ( twin room ) very comfortable though pity that single beds English 6'3'' instead of Continental 2m ( 6'6'') - extra 3'' important if you are tall and wish to stretch out. Although opposite rail station room was very quiet. Food at the restaurant, The Butchers Social, very good and imaginative but the service a little on the slow side. Staff all very accommodating. Ray & Annette
Very good service, and surprise gift from the staff for a special occasion. Extremely close to the rail station, but not troubled by noise. Car park very full - just managed to squeeze in! Our room had a fire door that opened on to a flat roof. Opening it was the only way to cool the room.
I visited the Forest the end March, as a solo traveller. From the charming ladies on reception who were incredibly kind and caring, the staff who checked I was happy with the heating, the staff who brought me room service as separate courses, ensuring nothing was cold, the gentleman who took my order for breakfast, to the ladies cleaning the reception in the morning, I would like to say, thank you.... I have never had such superlative service across the board. I hasten to add the service was not intrusive and I had a most relaxing stay. The room was very comfortable, quiet and had all the amenities one needed. The food was utterly delicious, breakfast having some really unusual choices. I had the ox cheek benedict!! Amazing. Thank you all. I will definitely be returning.…
Fabulous visit! Spacious room with large bath…room 5…just amazing! Slept really well on very comfortable bed! Breakfast was divine, not just any avocado toast..with harrisa chard, on the most delicious sourdough bread!! Can’t wait to return!!
Ordered a bottle of House Red at the bar from their online menu and charged £25 instead of £20. Staff shrugged, it was an old menu on the website. Not offered an apology or £5 off or even some nuts, nothing. We asked if the manager could be told but doubt that happened. As another review said “Not nothered”. Won’t come back.
Popped in for a drink. The wine was not cold. Beer was cold though! Of course it was!!! When asked if they had a cold wine I was told it is cold and that the chiller is at the correct temperature. No apology, no offer to change wine. Relutantly offered to put ice in the wine. Would you put ice in beer??? Really not interested. Staff complained that they are short staffed and that the owner was in Scotland so there was nothing that could be done. If you charge premium prices, at least offer premium service. I'm not the only local who thinks you really really need to up your game. Reputations are hard won and easily lost. Think on!
4 of us came here for a Saturday night for a meal and drinks we had to go for the bar as we had our little dog with us, the staff was very helpful and friendly.. we had the chicken wings and buffalo cauliflower as the starter and it was huge and very tasty. For our mains we had the lobster and cod and the others had the chicken curry, one had chunky chips and skinny fries, the food was very good, we had the chablis wine which was also very good. The pub was very busy and quite loud but we like that as you don't hear every one else's conversations when its quiet. Overall very good evening and we will be going back.
