We stayed over night in the cottage. In Need of updating. Cooked meats left in the fridge from the previous guests which was not removed. The bed was quite small but comfortable, bedroom was dark and needed to move the lamps into the lounge/ kitchen as too dark. Our friends stayed in the hotel itself and we all met up and had drinks In the cottage. No wine glasses / flutes in the room but just asked at the bar for some. Breakfast was very good and overall good value for money.

We checked in and all seemed fine with the room, had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Unfortunately the cold tap in the ensuite didn't work, and clearly hadn't for some time. Reported to reception and they delivered a bottle of water to tide us over to the next day when they assured us the tap would be fixed. No one came in the room the next day and the tap was not fixed. I have a feeling that this was the norm. So if you are booked here and when you arrive you are in Room No 5 please check your tap first.

We apologise that the tap wasn’t working when you checked in and that the simple short term solution was affective until the next day. When I myself went into the room and fixed the tap in a matter of minutes. I didn’t see you personally afterwards to inform you it was fixed but it’s been in use all week since your visit and no further issues have been reported.

Didn't stay here, but great place to eat a Sunday roast with a good choice of meats plus a nut roast for the vegetarian option – potatoes, loads of veggies, all the trimmings. The meals were gorgeous, really tasty with the food perfectly prepared. Best of all were the potatoes which were properly roasted and the veggies firm and clearly freshly cooked. As for the portions, we barely managed to finish them! And if you are not a Sunday lunch person, there was also a wide range of other options available on the menu. Very good food, excellent service, very reasonable prices.

The whole experience was excellent, the landlord the team wax extremely welcoming and friendly. They engaged in conversation and nothing was a bother. We ordered Sunday lunch which was cooked beautifully. Soup celery and Stilton followed by a lamb roast whilst my wife enjoyed a prawn cocktail and a lamb roast. Served beautifully. We would highly recommend. The drinks are excellent and the atmosphere within the bar area was brilliant, the locals within the bar are also very friendly and welcoming and easy conversation. It is clear that the Landlord and the team work hard and are very customer focused nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back and stay in one of the beautiful rooms.

We only stayed for 1 night in the cottage . it was lovely , our only gripe was the bathroom looks very tired and needs updating . A king size bed would. better . The food in the pub was lovely and fresh and the staff very welcoming . We would definitely recommend the food .

The pluses.. the staff were all lovely and very accommodating, and the food is excellent. The bed was really comfortable & the room was clean. I think the minuses are beyond the control of the management/staff as the hotel really needs a refurb in that the stair carpet has holes in it and the ceiling paper in the dining room is falling off and the carpets need a good shampoo. One of our couples booked through buy a gift & the other on booking.com The buy a gift voucher did not show the mobile number (and we didn’t check the 2nd booking ) so we waited at the hotel for an hour before we could get in despite it stating we could get in at 2pm. We rang the hotel number but no answer. A good stay but the rooms are tired, but as I say staff are lovely.

What a find, Matthew ,Emily and all the staff made us very welcome. We ate in the hotel on 3 nights of our stay and were so pleasantly surprised at the quality, quantity and price of the meals. The steaks were delicious as was the fish, both of which I would recommend.Although the hotel is getting on in years ,the rooms are both comfortable and spotlessly clean. We hope to return in 2024 and enjoy their company again. THANKS
