We stayed with our family of 5 at the Atelier sul Mare, into two "Camere d'Arte" and we had the best time. The rooms were peculiar but spacious and clean. It's a creative experience which should be used as a break from a normal summer. 100% recommend this hotel for a quick weekend in Sicily by the sea.
We stayed at this hotel in Castel di Tusa for two nights. Upon arrival we were given the option of two rooms which was greatly appreciated, especially since the first room was painted almost completely black and was extremely dark (apparently this was some sort of art concept). We opted for the room that was more sizeable and were fortunate enough to have a balcony overlooking the sea and put the two chairs from the room out to view the seascape. The room was basic and had interesting art splattered all over the wall in every direction with some interesting pieces on the floor too. Sadly the bathroom really let the room down, the floor and ceiling were painted dark blue which gave it a very unsanitary and oppressive feeling. When I had a shower it was not hot, but when my partner showered there was hot water. Breakfast on the first morning (Sunday) was like a farmyard. There was a dog barking in the breakfast room (we are not dog people and think it is unacceptable that dogs are eating breakfast with us). We sat on a table with chairs, as one does at breakfast. I was then tutted and frowned at by a disgruntled waitress who shook her head at me and disapproved at our seating location, but then eventually said ‘ok’ to where we were sat after my partner questioned her. Extremely bizarre and I have never had such a poor attitude from staff where I have been paying and have sat at a table with seats in the breakfast room. Perhaps it was an art installation we were not aware of. There was also irritating ‘chill out’ music playing in the breakfast room which was not for us and further soured the experience. Luckily on our second morning of our stay the breakfast server was lovely and we were not berated over our choice of seating location and no dogs were barking. When we went to check out the staff were disinterested and preferred to speak to the Italian natives who arrived after us at the check out desk which did not leave us feeling valued as customers. We weren’t even sure our check out procedure had been completed as nobody said thank you or goodbye and continued to chat to the Italian guests. We simply excused ourselves, irritated and begrudged at poor service, an oppressive, unclean feeling of a room and bizarre contemporary ‘art’. If you want a clean, airy, fresh place to stay with good service this is not it. If you want somewhere you can subjectively evaluate as having good aesthetic and shroud it in contemporary art than this is your place. I only bumped this review up to a 3 because the town is a quaint little fishing village with a picturesque beach. …
Unique dreamy experience and amazing Art hotel, welcomed by passionate and dedicated staff. A must do if you are traveling to Sicily! We had the luck to visit some of the art rooms guided by Paolo and pick ours. Indescribable: you will have to visit for yourself to understand the fascination behind this Museum-hotel you are stepping in, that guests are able not only to touch but even to sleep and live in! We strongly recommend to book directly by calling the hotel and arrange a visit of the art rooms first. Each room is unique and to be discovered, we loved ours (we chose the Nest) also for the view and the light (stunning at Sunrise). The location allows you to immerse yourselves even deeper in the art-tasting experience by accessing Fiumara d’arte hills walking through contemporary Art pieces all around. We will definitely return!…
Don't imagine a proper hotel with all impeccable services. It's an experience of art, every rooms have been made by generous artists from all over the world. Presti, who had imagined all this, will welcome you before a visit, yes, because it's possible to have a look to the others rooms if they're empty. A guide will tell you about each room and therefore artist. Unfortunately, the area around is not very well maintained so I suggest you to take a look to the others sculptures disseminate in the aerea following the signposting on the road.
This hotel is a very unique hotel not far from Cefalù, every room have been designed by very famous contemporary artist... Guest should be prepared to destroyed every mental scheme to enter in this new dimention. The hotel is strategically placed to discover la fiumara arte open air land Art, the wild nature of Madonie National Park and the beautiful village of Cefalù
My husband and I arrived quite late, rain was pouring down and the small road (and only road) to the hotel was blocked due to roadwork. We called them several times beeing close by but nobody answered so we walked in to check if the whole hotel had been shut down. After rather long wait in the reception area we got the explanation that the telephoneline had been cut off due to the heavy rain, so everything was ok and we could check in. We were escorted to a room on 3rd floor and it was great! I fell in love at once. Green furniture with a touch of the 70's. Robust. Simple. Welcoming. Every wall in a different colour. No TV (didn't miss one either). No minibar. Perfectly functioning AC. Fantastic seaview from our balcony. We kept the door open listening to the waves falling asleep and wakening seeing the sunrise over the horizon. Toilet somewhat hard to flush down even one single paper. Hot water i shower sometimes took quite long time, but we are 100% ok with that. Room was nice and clean. Breakfast was sufficient and we enjoyed trying all the cakes. Coffee great. We stayed there three nights and would love to return someday.…
In a fantastic Sicilian location called Castel di Tusa there is a place where you can breathe art and beauty. The ATELIER SUL ARE it's a container full of emotions. I´ve been there for a special occasion, the wedding of two beautiful women (one of them my bet friend) and they booked for me on of the Art Room. I got the pleasure to sleep in a room called "The Tower of Sigismondo". When can you sleep in the completely darkness and at some point have the chance to open the roof and sleep under the stars? if you'll book it.... you can get this opportunity. This "hotel", but maybe is better call it "Museum", "Meeting point of different culture", "Place of the Beauty"...... it's a place where you can feel the harmony of beauty. The beauty of life (la Bellezza della vita). It's a place where you can feel the peace of the your soul through the poetry that you can read on the walls........ The "hotel" is surrounded of a fantastic sea "the Tyrrhenian Sea" and in this particular place the part of this coast got a blue flag, this means that you can find the best and clean sea of Sicily. In my particular case after the check in I was escorted to my room by Mariella (one of the employers of this hotel). She on the way to my room started telling me the reasons why the Artist Antonio Presti (owner of this amazing place) decided to create this hotel. One we arrived to my room, she explained me the story of the room, the artist that created it and the legend behind it. The staff is very kindly and I do apologise for don't remember the name of every person that I met. I recommend you to leave this experience at leats once in life and to dive inside this art place. Once again I'd like to thank you all the staff for the fantastic welcome. Ciao Antonio…
If you stay here, pick an art room. There are about 15 of them, designed by different artists. We stayed in the Water Bearers room. Some friends had stayed in the wonderful Prophet room. Actually a lot more comfortable than we thought, with an amazing view, though the lack of curtains certainly helps you wake up. Not luxurious, but inspiring. Could do with more thorough cleaning, but we loved it. Haggle if you're going out of season.
We stay there for 2 nights. The way to get there was not easy very narrow road. The hotel was very fun to look around. There are several rooms that have story in it. Very meaningful in the way they present. Some rooms are too much to stay. But some are so cozy. Breakfast was nice. Staffs are willing to serve. We love it
This place is a joke, and not a cheap one at that. The iDisk ratiocination art work only serves to camouflage the the inadequate structural shortcomings. The plumbing was awry with the settings back to front and no hot water. One of the room was deliberately dark with a token standard lamp in the main area, and one light in the bathroom. T he balcony was useless in the evening as it did not have any operating lights. This, however, pales into insignificance when compared with the decision taken by the hotel to pack up all our belongings and move us to another room without any notification, blaming the misunderstanding on a mistake. In fairness, they had the good grace not to charge us for our stay. Eternal visit? Barge poles come to mind. We
