We stayed here for four nights in the Frantoio Suite and I have mixed feelings about this place and the service you get. The village and beach of Castel di Tusa is approx. 10 min. away by car. The Frantoio Suite has a small bar area which is not suitable for self-catering. We had diner at the Masseria all four nights – highly recommended (EUR 30 per person without wine). Three times the diner was excellent, one night the quality of the food was also excellent, the type of dishes offered, however, was rather uninspiring. Pros: -Nice property in a quiet valley overlooking the hills with olive trees (but also the bridge of the nearby autostrada crossing the valley – see below cons) - Large room, nicely decorated - Nice pool area - Good location to explore the northern coast of Sicily - Very friendly staff - Just four rooms Cons: - Rather disappointing breakfast, a selection of jams, bread and upon request a boiled egg (can’t share the positive reviews on Tripadvisor in that respect) - Upon a closer look, the room would use a careful cleaning (in the corners, behind the mill stone etc.) - The valley is crossed by a nearby huge autostrada bridge which is just not very pleas-ant to look at (you barely hear any traffic noise, it’s just that the view is not that great if you look into the direction of the sea) - Bathroom/shower was really small and does not satisfy the expectations of a room in this price range (the shower curtain should be washed or replaced better sooner than later) - Overpriced laundry – they charged us 20 Euros for using the washing machine twice (blame me, I could have asked for the price in advance, I just did not consider that they would charge us that much money for the simple use of the washing machine) - No service in the rooms during our entire stay (empty trash bins, new towels etc.) Bottom line: It’s a nice and relaxing place but it has its downsides as well. The owners should work on some of the cons above (breakfast, cleanness) to justify the rates for the rooms.…
After our lovely 2011 holiday at Masseria Maggiore we returned in 2012. Again it was fantastic! This year Rosalba and Giulio were accompanied by their daughter Francesca and granddaughter Aurora. We again enjoyed the magnificent surroundings, lovely food and above all the hospitality of the entire family. Rosalba told us that according to a traditional saying there is no second time without a third one. She turned out to be right, because we decided to book again for 2013 and we are really looking forward to our next stay on Masseria Maggiore in the beautiful Sicilia.
We loved staying here. Such a happy few days and a really beautiful place. Definitely choose the option to sample's Rosalba's cooking. We didn't find anywhere nearby that could match it! Definitely recommend. Lucia
My friend and i stayed here last August and we had the most wonderful time. It is very quiet and peaceful at the farmhouse and the swimming pool is heavenly. best of all though is Rosalba- she is the most wonderul cook and brilliant host- we ate such delicious homemade traditional food and her jams and after supper liquers are insanely good. we had 2 very happy nights here and no-where else we stayed afterwards was anywhere near as good- we wished we'd stayed longer! thank you Rosalba- sorry it has taken so long to write a review but hopefully our friends will be coming to stay with you in September!
I want to thank Rosalba and her daughter Francesca again for the wonderful stay and experiences at Masseria Maggiore. Our room was very beautiful and spacious and cool at night. Our little girls of 4 and 6 enjoyed the beautiful and very clean pool and we were DELIGHTED by the cooking ART of Rosalba. The place is just so peaceful and beautiful... and all the fruit, marmelades, juices, oil, vegetables,... are biological, from their own land and SO FULL OF TASTE..... Rosalba is very sweet, I definately would want to go to Masseria Maggiore again (and again and again) and would recommend it to everyone! Peter, Sofie en kids
