The restaurant behind the hotel (Locanda El Senator) is very good.
There are 14 rooms. Ours had a sweet little patio and the room was semi-divided so that one bed had its own separate area. The patio had a discreet drying rack for towels and bathing suits, which we found very helpful.
The common area patios, lobby and multiple sitting areas provide lots of options. You can sit outside and eat your breakfast amidst lovely flowers while listening to the birds sing and the waves lap on the beach.
The breakfast was delicious and well-monitored. The bartender was enthusiastic and made creative cocktails for us upon request.
The beach was perfect for swimming. We stayed in the water for over an hour at a time during the first week of June. There are some smooth rocks in the shallow area which make it very slightly difficult to get in. It didn't really bother me, but I did notice one or two people swimming with beach shoes.
Although the beds are perfectly, comfortable, it is true, the rooms are a bit dated. If you like perfectly white grout lines in the bathroom, you might not be happy here. I didn't understand all the reviews here about how the showers were small. Who cares? Well, let's put it this way: if you drop your shampoo bottle in the shower, you'll have to turn off the water and open the shower door in order to retrieve it. The bathroom door scraped very loudly against the floor when opened or closed.
The owners and all the staff were friendly and helpful and welcoming. When we departed by taxi, the owner, bartender and lifeguard helped us put our suitcases in the car and waved good bye in the driveway like old friends.
We did not have a car and arrived by cab from the Sarzana train station. We took the bus to visit Lerici and walked to Tellaro. We ate dinner at the hotel and also walked to a couple of nearby restaurants.
There aren't many opportunities to stay in a resort where you have all the benefits of a full-service hotel, but still feel like you're staying in a cherished family home. I hope I can return someday.
Rooms are spacious but basic, in particular the bathroom where they really need to spend some money updating. Wifi never available in the rooms. All staff were most friendly with the exception of one "heavy" who came to aggressively chase us out of our room despite our having negotiated a late check out with the front desk. There was also a private party held on Saturday afternoon which the hotel did not inform us of. Didn't disturb us in terms of noise but did prevent us dining outside on the terrace which was one of the key attractions.
The beach in front of the hotel is public and small and gets packed! But lovely for swimming. Note that in the hotel pictures the sun loungers on the terrace in front of the beach are privately reserved in the season so NOT available to hotel guests. As hotel guests you do get access to loungers but only around the pool which can be very overshadowed by trees at certain times of day - just worth knowing for the dedicated sun worshippers.
Moments before departing we found out there is a whole other beach just to the left of the hotel which gets sun when the beach in front of Fiascherino doesn't - worth knowing! Also another small Albergo there which would be a good alternative for dining.
Breathtaking views from most of the rooms , a medium size swimming pool facing the sea too , and a really beautiful to swim and relaxe.
And i don't want to mention food , really of a great quality. The only problem is parking your car or motorcycle, please ask in advance for a place for you.
Check in was very smooth and we were shown around the hotel facilities which are better than Excellent. There is a very large and very clean swimming pool with plenty of poolside chairs and lots of lovely shade. On the beach there is a raised esplanade and we were shown the relaxing chairs that were ours for our stay. They were numbered for each guest and this certainly stops people placing towels on chairs very early in the morning to save a chair for later use. There are good tennis courts too. As this hotel is gated then usually only hotel guests are in the area at any time. The rooms are small but on the second floor they each have an external balcony with views over the sea and there is a communal sun terrace with lounge chairs and umbrellas.
There is a very quiet and calming atmosphere around the hotel and the guest areas are stylish in their furnishings and staff are very pleasant. We had two small double rooms right next to the sun terrace on the second floor. We sat and relaxed on the terrace and the views are just beautiful from this area too.
There are great walks from the hotel to the next coastal village (Tellaro) via stairs, well marked pathways and a safe road to walk on. The beach at the front of the hotel in a small cove is patrolled by a beach guard who also keeps the area clean. In the evenings we walked up the gated road to the top and ate at Hotel Cristallo. What a find for great food and dining. They provide a buffet style of home grown food where you can have 4 courses for 20 euro per person. The menu was different for each of the 2 nights and the diversity of the food and the food itself was excellent. It was an easy walk back after dark as the private roadway to the hotel was well lit.
The owners of Hotel Fiascherino are very good at creating the feeling of seclusion and privacy within their hotel even though you are walking distance to pretty villages and driving a few kilometres to Lerici and La Spezia. On two of the evenings we were there the hotel had a musical evening with lovely Italian music and a guest speaker talking about the books they had written. We found the hotel and the gated community a delight to experience and a world away from the many Italian beach areas with lines and lines of umbrellas and sunbeds.
After a nice meal whilst we waited for our room to be ready the friendly pool attendant explained that we could reserve lilos for our stay which would be just for us. On all my holidays this has never been the case. Perhaps afterall this place was better than my first impressions ?
Our room seemed so small but once we realised that our cases would go under the bed and we had seen the lovely shower room we were well pleased and the bed was one of the comfiest that I had ever slept in. The room was nicely furnished and the maid came in daily to change the towels and clean and tidy up.
So gradually the beauties of this slightly ramshackle hotel were revealed. From the front door of our room we had a lovely view of one cove ansd from the back terrace we had the view of another lovely cove.
So it was obvious that this was a very special place. The hotel occupies the width of a cove and the views are spectacular. The food in the restaurant is wonderful with very helpful staff and breakfasts were extremely nice too in the bar area.
This hotel has only 14 rooms, but the complex is open to the public in the style of a lido. So there are sunbathing tearraces, a large pool, tennis courts, children's play area and areas to sit and relax under the trees, plus access to the narrow strip of a public beach. We were there at probably the busiest time of the year as it was an Italian National holiday weekend. Local Italians come to sample the restaurant and use the amenities. But, because of the space, layout and facilities it was never noisy or overcrowded. The staff are lovely and the ambience is just perfect.
So it turned out to be one of the nicest places I have ever stayed at. There is something very special about it all.
Unfortunately we will never return becasue it is not easy to get to. We went there to meet with relations who were staying in nearby Lerici. Lerici itself is a beautiful place too.
We started the holiday in Pisa and returned there for a night before returning home.
We had a lot of not very easy travel on trains and buses but it was all worthwhile to stay at Hotel Fiascherino.
We travelled in September so you still had some days where you could swim in the little beach
This is not a international tourist resort - the guests are mainly Italian so there is not much in english - but a few staff speak a little english so it was not difficult to navigate
You need to be aware that you are a little out of the way and to walk to the nearest town is difficult because of the roads - but frankly this just added to the charm
The owners were wonderful - when I explained we wanted to go into Lerici the owners insisted her sister drive us in so we only had to pay one way for a taxi -very generous I thought
The surroundings are naturally beautiful and i fell asleep to the sound of waves crashing and awoke the sound of seagulls - very charming
The breakfast is great and the hosts are extremely friendly in spite of limited English.
"Second floor gives you the views, but think the ground floor rooms may be slightly bigger (but not certain)."Read full review

"We had room 1, which was on the end and had a reasonable view of the sweep of the terrace, rooms further along may have seen more of the bay. All would be quiet and seemed to be the same size and quality."Read full review
