Rooms are clean and well kept. Hotel staff were very pleasant. The food was delicious. I couldn't have asked for or expected more. Continental breakfast with fresh pastries, cereal and apple juice is placed on several tables each morning for guests at a nominal fee. The restaurant serves fantastic food. The overall experience of Hotel de France and Chalabre was great.

The Hotel de France is a great, traditional, French country hotel. Its location in the centre of Chalabre is very convenient and is ideal for exploring this beautiful small town on foot. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and very well appointed. For those who care about such things, there is WiFi and a TV.

I was particularly impressed with the high quality cuisine at a very affordable price. The prawns and salmon on the 22 euro menu were simply stunning and would not be out of place in a top quality London hotel. As for the crême brulée - excéllent! The patron and his staff were brilliant: very welcoming and hospitable.

I will definitely be including l'Hotel de France as a gastronomic highlight to future trips to the Aude region. Thank you to everyone there!

The previous evening we had really encounter we the owner Didier so we decided to have lunch there the next day. What a nightmare! The owner's wife is an awful and nasty host. The dinning room was a bit chilly so we decided to seat by the working radiator but that was not what she wanted so she asked us to move next to the none working one. We we mentioned that it was called she challenged us about her dining room being cold. The table was next to a massive TV with sound blasting out. We asked if we could switched it off but she refused arguing that the workers wanted it. We ended up walking out...

We stayed here for 4 nights in August. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The decor is very dated, and is in need of some new decor. We only had breakfast every day so cant give an opinion on the food. The hotel was fairly busy at lunchtimes and on an evening which indicates its popularity..We would stay again

This small hotel is well-known for its cassoulet, but the entrée of crevettes with mayonnaise is also superb. They normally offer a menu du jour but one can also order from the carte, where there are many more choices. Located on a quiet street in Chalabre, the restaurant serves classically French fare and the meals are excellent.
