Hotel Relais Al Convento is situated in the medieval village of Vezzano Ligure, on the hills at the back of the Cinque Terre, only few kilometres away from the wonderful maritime villages of Lerici, San Terenzo and Portovenere, pearls of the Gulf of the Poets. Before the accurate restoration the hotel was an ancient cloister dating back to the XVI century. Today it keeps unchanged the charm and the mysticism of its origins. It has 18 rooms where guests can spend unique and exclusive stays at only 8 km from the sea.It has a check-in area, a private garden, Wi-Fi connection in a common area and restaurant with large choice of Ligurian typical dishes from both land and sea.

Detailed Reviews
From the moment we first in contacted the hotel the receptionist Yanet was ever so helpful and did everything possible to make our stay beyond expectations.
Rooms are newish, large and exactly the style you would expect from a little mountain village hotel.
Vezzano is a wonderful little mountaintop village 15 mins drive from La Spezia and the ideal get away from the city and it is still not touristy.
The is no restaurant for dinner but a small Osteria across from the hotel which is all right but nothing spectacular when Italy offers so many excellent small restaurants. Ask in the hotel reception and the have a list of nearby good restaurants.
The New Spa is impressive but would be perfect if the girls were more skilled at massage.

My partner and I stayed in a suite room at Al Convento for 2 nights as part of a 2 week Europe holiday. We flew into Pisa and picked up a brand new 1.3L diesel Fiat Punto hire car and drove up to La Spezia, which we managed pretty easily with just the paper maps they give you at the hire car centre. We managed to find the hotel with no trouble once we took the exit off the highway to Vezzano. The windy steep road up the mountain to Vezzano town make you really feel like you are in Italy! Olive trees every where.
The hotel is very lovely when you arrive, quite romantic. The roads are hand cobbled, very narrow and the streets are quiet, with only the odd local around in their 3 wheel rickshaws. We checked into the hotel, which went smoothly. There are no bell staff, so you will need to be able to carry your own bags up. We were offered the beach-themed suite, which was gorgeous and had a modern ensuite bathroom and private balcony. The room had a lovely view of the valley, was so peaceful and quiet, and enjoyed lovely breezes. The amenities in the room were very adequate and spacious including quiet airconditioning and a bidet. If you wanted to enjoy the valley breezes, the windows had insect netting. The decorator of the room had obviously gone to a lot of effort to create and "individual room", which was definitely appreciated as a nice change from the typical standard hotel rooms that are all largely the same. A nice touch was that the vacant rooms of the hotel were left open, adding to the open, breezy feel of the place, which was delightful during the warm summer days. The daily room and turndown service was discrete and the cleanliness of the room and bathroom was exemplary.
We had breakfast in the mornings at the hotel. A little unusual as a lot of the items on offer were homebaked sweets etc. Which were nice, but not what we would typically have for breakfast. But, there was fresh cappuccino/latte made to order, muesli, yogurt, fruit and toast also. The restaurant downstairs served fantastic food and wine - delicious. very traditional atmosphere, good value. We were accompanied in the restaurant by a group of locals who were certainly having a good time! A little noisy, but it was just by chance, and was certainly entertaining to watch their antics.
A short, very scenic 25 min drive from the hotel to the first town of Cinque Terre, where you can park if you arrive early enough and do the hike or get the train if you prefer. Was an absolutely amazing experience doing the hike, which you should not miss. We kept running into a group of 60+ yr old Kiwi travelers on the hike who were doing a tremendous job!
Recommend you get a small guide map of La Spezia town. Was hard to find the popular eating spots etc there without a local map.
Overall fantastic, unique hotel, very convenient to Cinque Terre, and much better value for money! Felt very refreshed when we left to head to Florence.

The Al Convento is placed in the middle of a small, but beautiful village on top of the mountains. It is only a 15 min drive to the central station La Spezia (to go to Cinque Terre). After a long day in the busy areas there it is very relaxing coming back to the village.
The hotel staff is very friendly and speaks English. The rooms are comfortable, not too big, and very clean. Breakfast (Italian) is available, and there are two restaurants close by.
Dog friendly.

I like historical hotels and often book one. Vezzano is a lovely place. But:
1. It is some 25 minutes drive to the center of La Spezia. Or, as we did, 10 min. drive to the train station and then 15 min. to La Spezia
2. We payed 100 Euro p/night in April, which is out of season, the hotel was nearly empty. The breakfast was modest. On my opinion, for 3* it is overpriced
Beware the pizzeria opposite! Both the pizza and vine there are not good.

We chanced upon this hotel via TripAdvisor, and were very pleased. It's nestled in the heart of a very tiny hilltop village close to the Cinque Terre and made a great base for exploring the surrounding area. The hotel itself was lovely, great location, friendly staff, excellent breakfast, and helpful with all of our needs. I don't think there were many other hotels in this village which meant not many tourists, so the entire experience was wonderfully authentic. My only complaint was that the night manager stepped "outside" to smoke, and "outside" was a door right behind the reception desk, so the lobby always reeked of smoke. Other than that, it was perfect.

We were 3 families staying in 3 different rooms one Friday night in June. This hotel is a fantastic gem, lying on a hill close to La Spezia. We traveled around Italy for two weeks and this was the most memorable place we stayed in. The hotel itself is plain and simple, but very original with high quality rooms. All the rooms are differently furnished and shaped. The restaurant on the ground floor is great. We ate a quality dinner in the lovely back garden. After dinner we joined the locals out on the piazza next to the church with a great view over the neighboring allies. The adult’s enjoyed a local beer and the kids were playing ball under the flood light. The hotel can serve as an excellent base for exploring the Cinque Terre national park. There leaves a train from the local train station Vezzano Ligure, 10 minutes away by car, every hour for CT.

Great service and people, we were in the junior suite which was way above our expectations! Also the spa is small but very relaxing:)
The small town is quiet and lovely, it s best to have a motorbike to drive around and go to the beaches around La Spezia, Lerici and 5 terre.

Off the typical tourist route but that is what makes this little gem great! It really feels like you are living as part of the hillside community known as Vezzano Ligure. We initially tried to book the hotel directly through their website and had no success but later found a bed and breakfast deal on Agoda.com We were happy we made the booking with our first evening spent walking through the twisting streets to the top of the hill chatting with the friendly locals along the way. Attached to the hotel is one of the few restaurants in the town but they served a variety of quality meals specialising in seafood (make sure you book a table though as most of the town eat here of a night). Just out the front door and 50m to the left is another fantastic eatery that should not be missed if you visit here. I forget the name but if you search restaurants in Vezzano Ligure it will be rated in the top 3 I'm sure. Just to note wifi is free but in the common areas only. Definitely worth the stay!!

This is a great place! We were a bit suspicious about the hotel when we booked because we thought the name was Hotel Albani (which we could not find on the internet). Had we have known the "real" name we would have seen all of the excellent reviews in TA. In any event, the hotel is located in the tiny village of Vezzano Ligure - way up in the hills. Yes, its a bit of a drive to La Spezia and Cinque Terre but it turned out to be no problem. We absolutely loved walking around the town. The hotel itself was very clean with large bedrooms. The bathrooms were good as well. We were lucky enough to have a door that opened to the back - overlooking the awesome mountains. The staff were all great. Very helpful. They even started breakfast for us at 7AM on the day we departed, instead of the usual 8 AM opening! There is no elevator at the hotel so there are certainly quite a few steps to walk up with heavy bags - but you'll get over it. Breakfast was great with lots of selections. Great coffee too. There is a nice balcony on the main floor that is a great place to enjoy a glass of wine and meet the other guests before dinner. Speaking of dinner, you don't have to go far as the restaurant right next door is fantastic. Authentic local food (great pesto) is served each night. Great prices and quality! If you don't have a car, there is a local La Spezia bus that passes through the town on a regular basis that I'm sure would take you to the train station. We hope to be back in the future.

Very nice location, wonderful view both of the village and the surroundings.
Staff welcoming and very kind.
Enjoyed also dinner at the dehors of the restaurant, typical food of this area. Pesto was great, wide choice of good wines as well.
Room was huge and well furnished, although a little bit hot at arrival

Hi!
We went by car and thought that was convenient. However, there are buses availble for La Spezia, and from there connectins by bus, train or boats to most places. In La Spezia and at the train station below Vezzano (not walking distance but there might be Connections) there are trains to and from Cinque terre. You could also go by boat there, from Lerici or Portovenere (but both are too far away to reach by taxi). The front desk are very helpful in providing advice, timetables and assist with your bookings. Enjoy the Beautiful village of Vezzano, a pleasant contrast to quite touristy, but beautiful Cinque terre! Best regards Jan and Barbro
