When we arrived, the outside appearance did not bode well, however, once inside we were greeted by a very nice young lady who showed us to our rooms. We both had rooms with stunning views over the falls, very clean, tidy, comfortable and warm. The food was really lovely, although not too great a choice for a veggie, however, John was really friendly and entertaining! There was a young man singing and playing guitar the first evening, he was really good and we joined in! Breakfast in the morning was again a wee bit disappointing for a veggie, great for carnivores though! John's service again was really great, giving out ideas of where to visit etc. Our meal the next evening was also very good and then we had the experience of a lot of older people descending into the pub. What a night!!! The couples were Irish dancing and we were really exhausted just watching them, they never really sat down! We were asked to join in, we would not have been able to keep up with them all! Our relatives went up to bed and we stayed down to watch them, however, we had to call it a day and they were all still going!!! They did not even make a noise when leaving! Breakfast again in the morning was good and John very attentive. The only one niggle we had, was a dog barking in the room next to our relatives room, which did disturb them a wee bit. This was one of our favourite hotels during our stay in Ireland and would definitely stay again.…
Honestly, we have been so happy with our experience here that we plan to stay here again. We and our dogs have been welcomed and treated like family. The food, drinks and entertainment are wonderful. Definitely coming back for a longer stay. 🌞
Stayed here with a group of friends. Place could not have been nicer, staff were extremely helpful and food was amazing. Recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay down here. Will definitely be back.
This hotel is in a beautiful spot, convenient for visiting all the lovely places in West Cork. The service is excellent, in particular Michelle who is such a friendly girl and nothing was too much trouble for her. We really enjoyed our stay.
We visited twice in the past Week. According to the owner, Staff shortage appears to be an issue which impacts on service. However, having eaten here several times over the years, the food is always good and worth the wait. The Café is under utilised but has potential to be very good. The location is gorgeous and the decked area overlooking the falls and river flowing into Bantry Bay is really nice. Today we had Roast Lamb and Chicken Curry. The portions were generous with the Lamb particularly generous. Overall , we enjoyed the meal and will return again. This Hotel has potential but must raise the standard of housekeeping and staffing levels to bring the overall experience to another level. The food is the best part. Roast lamb 9/10. Curry 7/10. Housekeeping 6/10.
Stayed here with family. Its under new management and you can definitely see elements of the place being updated gradually. The rooms are basic but spotlessly clean and the beds are comfortable. Breakfast is delicious and the setting for the hotel is spectacular. Hotel Manager Michelle is very friendly and the owners John and Patricia are extremely helpful with ideas for places to visit and things to do. The hotel is located close to both Glengarriff and Bantry and is an ideal base for exploring west Cork. The setting is spectacular and its lovely to sit in the garden and enjoy a drink. At night the bar is very busy and John is an unbelievable singer, we had had a great sing song with him. This is a little gem of a hotel and I feel under the new management it's only going to get better.…
These are the facts: Breakfast: Understaffed and only 1m distance between many sitting guests. Food at buffet table not replenished regularly and asked 8 times for things every morning. Covid measures were not used at buffet. Room cleaning: Not cleaned at all during our stay. We washed our own cups - tea/coffee milk not replenished. I went to get loo roll ourselves. The staff member said the room would be cleaned 2nd day. Not true. WIFI in room non-existent. Renovations: Loud banging and drilling until 9pm next door. I couldn't rest quietly. Understaffing may have saved them money but not lives. I will not be returning.
The restaurant is located right on top of a lovely flowing river with stunning views out into the bay .The food was tasty and the staff were friendly. The menu was big chalk board which was carried around to each table which is very Covid friendly as no one has to touch the same menus .overall a really nice place for a relaxing meal.
Steep stairs to rooms, given room 8 but when we came out we had been given room 11 key and should have been shown to that room. The only person on duty when we arrived was the barmaid she was serving food, beer and showing people their rooms. Easy mistake but room 8 had mould in the bathroom and the bin in there was full from the last guest. Wish we had swapped to room 11 in the end but it was only for 1 night. Lovely outlook from some of the rooms and the bar. We ate in the bar, food was very hot and tasty, the menu is on a blackboard, there are no individual menus. Breakfast was good. We were the only guests the night we stayed.
The place was clean and the room recently decorated. But there were a lot of things that let it down: Room for three with only two cups for tea/coffee (and no milk) Not enough places to hang three sets of towels once used One (really) tiny bottle of complementary wash No shelf in the shower to place own bottles on Very thin walls conversations, tv and snoring of occupants of neighbouring rooms easily heard. Only one member of staff in the morning; resulting in unset tables, erratic and service. She was very pleasant but overstretched - was having to work the bar and deal with check outs at the same time. Lots of potential in the place; but lacking management. I didn't come across one member of staff over the age of 21. They all seemed to work very hard and very long hours. No sight of the owner managing the (student) staff at any point in time. On a positive note the breakfast was tasty and not short in quantity. …
