Detailed Reviews
We visited twice in the past Week. According to the owner, Staff shortage appears to be an issue which impacts on service. However, having eaten here several times over the years, the food is always good and worth the wait. The Café is under utilised but has potential to be very good. The location is gorgeous and the decked area overlooking the falls and river flowing into Bantry Bay is really nice. Today we had Roast Lamb and Chicken Curry. The portions were generous with the Lamb particularly generous. Overall , we enjoyed the meal and will return again. This Hotel has potential but must raise the standard of housekeeping and staffing levels to bring the overall experience to another level. The food is the best part. Roast lamb 9/10. Curry 7/10. Housekeeping 6/10.

When we arrived, the outside appearance did not bode well, however, once inside we were greeted by a very nice young lady who showed us to our rooms.
We both had rooms with stunning views over the falls, very clean, tidy, comfortable and warm.
The food was really lovely, although not too great a choice for a veggie, however, John was really friendly and entertaining! There was a young man singing and playing guitar the first evening, he was really good and we joined in!
Breakfast in the morning was again a wee bit disappointing for a veggie, great for carnivores though! John's service again was really great, giving out ideas of where to visit etc.
Our meal the next evening was also very good and then we had the experience of a lot of older people descending into the pub. What a night!!! The couples were Irish dancing and we were really exhausted just watching them, they never really sat down! We were asked to join in, we would not have been able to keep up with them all! Our relatives went up to bed and we stayed down to watch them, however, we had to call it a day and they were all still going!!! They did not even make a noise when leaving!
Breakfast again in the morning was good and John very attentive.
The only one niggle we had, was a dog barking in the room next to our relatives room, which did disturb them a wee bit.
This was one of our favourite hotels during our stay in Ireland and would definitely stay again.

The restaurant is located right on top of a lovely flowing river with stunning views out into the bay .The food was tasty and the staff were friendly. The menu was big chalk board which was carried around to each table which is very Covid friendly as no one has to touch the same menus .overall a really nice place for a relaxing meal.

These are the facts:
Breakfast: Understaffed and only 1m distance between many sitting guests. Food at buffet table not replenished regularly and asked 8 times for things every morning. Covid measures were not used at buffet.
Room cleaning: Not cleaned at all during our stay. We washed our own cups - tea/coffee milk not replenished. I went to get loo roll ourselves. The staff member said the room would be cleaned 2nd day. Not true.
WIFI in room non-existent.
Renovations: Loud banging and drilling until 9pm next door. I couldn't rest quietly.
Understaffing may have saved them money but not lives. I will not be returning.

+1
There was a huge crowd (we found out it was a wedding) and a VERY noisy singer so we couldn’t even get ourselves heard when we tried to book in. We were taken elsewhere for check-in but rather than have a professional looking pre-printed form, the girl we spoke to wrote down a series of questions on a piece of paper. Not a good start.
“We might be able to do food” was the response when asked about eating in the restaurant. The wedding party obviously had the food and a shrug of the shoulders was all we got when we said it was advertised as a restaurant. We went to Seaview House (just round the corner) for a lovely meal. If they can’t provide food with an ongoing event in the evening then they shouldn't book rooms out assuming people don’t want food.
There was nowhere to put toiletries as there was no shelf in the bathroom. They were in a small tray on top of the toilet.
The carpets both up the stairs and in the room badly needed extra cleaning or replacing.
The wardrobe was missing a door or else it wasn’t designed for a door.
The wi-fi wasn’t working properly. You could connect in the room (Topfloor) but in the dining room there was no connection, even though the “Dining” network was available
The open window had a huge cobweb over it.
The window area had bare plaster where the paint had flaked off.
The small pillow (singular) was paper thin and certainly nowhere near white.
The “towel” for the shower was postcard size and was best used for standing on.
There was nowhere to hang clothes in the bathroom so you had to leave them on the floor outside.
There were no curtains on the window so people could walk on the public terrace and see straight into the room
The bathroom door really creaked like mad, great when you wake your wife in the night.
The soap dispenser in the bathroom was broken
The double socket was almost down to the level of the worktop so we couldn’t plug a hair dryer in.
The beds were good though, as was the breakfast.
Our room had a great view along with a great view of the falls and a lovely terrace area, it’s a pity that the hotel can’t match it and needs money being spent on it.
This was zero value for money and at €120 a night I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone until numerous changes are made, which is a pity as it could be great. €60 for the room and €60 for the view is the best I could comment on.

The location at the mouth of the Ouvane River in Bantry Bay is very nice, but the hotel needs a complete overhaul. The corridors and our room looked worn, greasy and the floors were dirty. The bed was OK, you couldn't look too closely in the bathroom...
We had a room facing the water, but unfortunately above the bar and the bar terrace (a smokers' meeting place). There was a party going on until 2.30 a.m. on a Sunday night, so sleeping until then was out of the question. When I complained about it in the morning, they just said "sorry, they probably didn't think about the noise." If you didn't have overnight guests, that would be fine, but it was unacceptable.
The included breakfast was in the bottom third of the scale, the bacon didn't taste great.

We visited the restaurant for dinner on holidays and all I can say is I wish we hadn't.
The customer service from the staff was some of the poorest I've ever experienced. We were met with a very unwelcoming manner from the young girl working and We have a 18 month old baby so asked if they had a kids menu to which she said no and all they could do is half portions of the menu items.
Once we had ordered, another group come in and were offered a kids menu!
I ordered calamari, chips and salad. It's a pub meal so you aren't expecting anything too extravagant but it was 5 calamari, the smallest portion of chips (I'd say about 10 chips) and some rocket leaves. At a price of around 16 it was totally not worth it!
I would never visit again and would definitely not recommend which is a shame as it is in a beautiful location.

Was meant to go for Xmas. Booked. paid 420 Euro in July. After trying and failing four times to get a place to have Xmas dinner anywhere within an hour radius, finally decided I'd have to cancel. cancelled 28th November. Had booked via hotels.com. Their cancellation policy said I would lose half the payment and that the hotel were dealing with the refund of 210. I sucked it up obviously as I knew this when I cancelled. i heard nothing and ring the hotel. i am told they waivered the fee on their end. Fast forward multiple emails, calls to hotels.com and multiple dismissive and unanswered calls by the hotel itself, I was told I couldn't be helped as I had cancelled less than a month before the date of arrival. Ultimately, I'm out 420 Euro and didn't get to go away either. If the customer service had been 99% better, it could have been different but bad form in my opinion and I wouldn't recommend. Especially given the choice in the area of high standard hotels for similar prices.
Very disappointing.

This hotel is in a beautiful spot, convenient for visiting all the lovely places in West Cork. The service is excellent, in particular Michelle who is such a friendly girl and nothing was too much trouble for her. We really enjoyed our stay.

Stayed here with a group cycling the Tour De Bera. Could not have been more happy with the friendly atmosphere and great food &drink. Nothing was a problem, even the 6:30am breakfast prior to the cycle. Great views from the terrace and very well located for touring the area.
