Note:I wrote this heading before reading any previous reviews so surprised to find the comments by Rich766 !! Received a warm welcome on arrival in impressively beautiful surroundings on 27th September. Good start. However, we stayed in a 'Superior Double Room' entitled 'Chambre de Provence' The room is described as having "a double bed with amazing hand painted drapes and...

As anyone who knows me will tell you - I am not easily pleased – some would say fussy! It would be hard not to love the Barn House – friendly, beautiful surroundings, and well read on… We stayed in the Raj Experience – a beautiful old four-poster bed (so comfortable I am surprised I managed to get out of...

The basic requirements of accomodation are well met here. Room was very clean, our room 'The Raj Experience' was en-suite and the staff were polite. Although all the ingredients are there, we were a little disappointed overall. The Barn House is wonderfully hand decorated, there is clearly someone with a lot of artistic flair owning this hotel. However we did...

I am very surprised by this review, we pride ourselves on customer service at the Barn House and whilst its very difficult to get it right for everyone all of the time we are constantly reviewing our procedures and doing our best to provide a overall excellent experience. I showed this couple in personally, when we do check in we...

We stayed here in April having come to see my boyfriend's daughter at university up here. It was a last minute booking and as such we had to compromise as the only two rooms left were the Scottish room and the African room ( neither with ensuite facilities). That said, I'm glad we did as it was no problem ,...

Stayed in Songbirds room within the 'The Pigeon Loft' which has two other rooms, communal seating, dining and kitchen areas. All rooms finished to high standard (no uht milk, fresh milk available in fridge in kitchen), bedroom had large, lovely view over garden area. Had good night sleep. Breakfast - homemade jams and marmalades, tasty sausage and bacon.

Lovely location for Beverley and York - this was a suprise 3 night family trip. Rooms not ready when we checked in at 3pm having advised them of our arrival time in advance. Not really geared up for families staying with young children, we had to pack our own travel cot. In our room one of the lamps was broken,...

Management response:

This trip was organised by the ladies husband, he had two choices with the rooms and we spent alot of time e mailing back and forth explaining the layout of the rooms and which building they were in. He finally choose the rooms he would like. One room was ready on arrival but unfortunately the other was not, we had...

This place is a hidden gem, I came across it by chance whilst trying to find somewhere a bit last minute on Valentine's Day.....and thank God I did! Niki (the proprietor) called me to make sure check in would be smooth, as I was arriving a little late in the day. When she showed me around I was amazed by...

Each year we have a family tradition of picking a UK location for an overnight stay on NYE. We usually book at the start of the summer to avoid disappointment as nYE accom can sell out very quickly. This year we booked in Aug for our usual 31st Dec overnight jaunt. We chose the "out of africa" room at The...
