Our first stay in 6 years at this hotel, and it's as good as ever. Handily located within 10 miles of the M6 we broke our journey from Scotland to the South of England at this old favourite. Our elderly Labrador was accommodated with a small surcharge, and we spent a very comfortable night in the old coach house which...

Wow...that's a review and a half! Thank you so much for taking the time to write and we're all delighted you enjoyed your stay again so much. One correction, just for the record is that the buildings are Georgian rather than Elizabethan, built between around 1715 and 1815, with our lovely restaurant added in 2006....so that bit at least is...

I stayed at this hotel for three weeks in August with my wife and 14 year-old daughter on our summer holiday. It was perfect in all respects. The owners, Paul and Julie, made us all feel extremely welcome, as did the rest of the staff who were friendly, polite and helpful at all times. The hotel was absolutely spotless and...

A fine review! It was a pleasure to accommodate you all for your extended holiday and we're so pleased you enjoyed your time here at TSH. It's always a delight to talk about wine and to make recommendations - wine brings so much contentment to life! Your comments are much appreciated and we'll pass them on, of course...our staff always...

Due to location just off the M6 and near to the lakes this hotel is obviously very popular as a stop over for travellers heading north or south which is why we chose it. It is very traditional in feel with the smell of furniture polish greeting you in the immaculate lounge areas. The bedroom was very comfy. You can...

Thank you very much for such a kind review. As you mentioned, we are a very convenient stop-off for those going either north or south and as such we like to offer a stay that is as welcoming and relaxing as possible for weary travellers - including comfortable rooms, friendly service and fantastic food!

We were fortunate enough to have the whole hotel last week, as we were working nearby, and from the very first dealings I knew we were onto a winner. On arrival we had the warmest of greetings, and were shown to our rooms and also around the hotel. It is in a lovely spot with a beautiful garden. Rooms were...

The rooms are very comfortable - spacious and well-equipped without being grand. The rooms with garden views are the best in our opinion - especially when you can watch the ducks! The food is sensational - local produce beautifully and inventively prepared.

Thank you David P, obviously a repeat guest and many thanks for your comments - we'll pass them on of course. Dinner is always a highlight of a stay here and Daniel's on top form! Delighted that you enjoy coming back for more and hope to see you again soon.

Excellent reception, friendly and helpful, welcoming. Room very clean with all necessary requirements. All food cooked to order. Very tasty and beautifully served. A modern approach which might not satisfy a larger person used to meat, potatoes and two vegetables. Delicate flavours which were carefully assembled left us happy and fulfilled. Coffee was excellent and there were no hidden extras...

Many thanks for your review - quite the food critic! Delighted you enjoyed your stay so much and hope to see you back soon. I must argue one point however...don't agree that a 'larger person' would may not be 'satisfied', despite the lack of 'meat & 2 veg' (which went out with the ark in the fine dining world). We...

On our way from Scotland to Nottingham, we chose to do an overnight stay at Temple Sowerby House Hotel - located in a quiet village near Penrith. We were made very welcome and found our bedroom very comfortable. The hotel has a long history and was cosy, spotless and with an interesting décor. Dinner in the conservatory was really excellent...

Thank you for your review, we are very happy to hear you enjoyed your stay so much. The old nature of the building certainly does give it a very cosy feel, and many guests remark on how they find it to be very comfortable and relaxing. We hope to welcome you back if you do return to the area -...

Wonderful accommodation in a location well placed for exploring the local area. The breakfasts and evening meals were of a good quality although the latter were not overly generous in terms of size. Owners and staff were friendly too. My only quibble: the offer of a "welcome" cup of tea and shop bought biscuits which added £9.50 to the bill!

Thank you for your review. We are certainly well located - you could go in a different direction each day and enjoy totally different landscapes and the walking is varied and always interesting. We only called in for morning coffee, but received a very friendly welcome. Lovely coffee and biscuits though rather expesive. The decor was lovely, the hotel having a long history. The gardens were lovely and overlooked by a superb dining- conservatory. Mind your head on low doorways!!

Delighted you enjoyed your short stop and you're right about minding your head, as I know from bitter experience! If only they had thought ahead 300 years ago when they built the house! Regarding the price, I do think that £4.75 for coffee and biscuits is not excessive, given the surroundings, and compared to national brands.
