The welcome on arrival was warm and friendly and the young gentleman showed us to our room which was up two flights of fairly steep stairs. We are both in our70’s and reasonably fit but it would have been a nice touch if he had offered to carry my partners suitcase.

The room (9) was clean and spacious and the twin beds provided a comfortable nights sleep. The complementary bottles of water on arrival were a nice touch. We reported a loose toilet seat but it had not been fixed by the time we checked out.

We ate dinner in the hotel on both nights and the quality and presentation of the food was excellent. We like to take our time over a meal but even for us 50 minutes from taking our order to the starters being served was very slow.

We enjoyed our stay and would certainly visit again but a bit more attention to detail would have enhanced our stay.

Spent 2 nights everyone was absolutely fantastic, food was amazing, I'm unable to eat full portions, the staff couldn't be more helpful and understanding, they said that that was not a problem.
Our bedroom was very comfortable, and was fully equipped with a hair dryer, iron and ironing board.
The selection at brakefast was absolutely excellent.
Certainly no complaints from us highly recommended

I enjoyed a one night stay at this hotel.Quick check in, shown to room and informed of the covid protocols in place.
Stayed in room 1 which overlooked Seafield street.
Room was large , clean had blackout curtains on the window and a radiator. Ample storage space with a wardrobe with hangers and two chest of drawers.
Free wi-fi throughout the hotel.
Room had a flat screen television with free view channels.
Hospitality tray of kettle, tea, coffee, milk , sugar and a bottle of water in the room.
Folder in room about the hotel and surrounding area.
En-suite bathroom with walk in shower.Shampoo dispenser in shower cabinet and liquid soap bottle on sink.
Hairdryer in room and 5 spare plug sockets for electrical items.
Sanitiser and wipe stations throughout the hotel. All staff confirmed to the covid guidelines.
Enjoyed a tasty diner of pea soup and haddock in batter/ chips and peas.
Breakfast was coffee, toast , a choice of cereals , fruit, yoghurt and cooked breakfast to order.Absolutely superb.
Check was fast and no issues with bill.
Can I suggest replacing the bottles of shampoo and liquid soap with shampoo sachets and small bar of soap for better covid compliance.
As the hotel dates from 1850 there was a issue with gaps in door / door frame letting in the light from the stairs outside. Suggest a black out curtain rail over the room door.
Overall fine place to stay , excellent hospitality and value for money.

We were travelling through the north of Scotland so visited a few different hotels, we were at Ardoe house the previous night so the station hotel had a bit to live up to, unfortunately it wouldn’t have mattered where we stayed the previous night this is not a good hotel.
Firstly, when you arrive, this is a bar on a main road, it reminded me of the sort of hotels you find in Blackpool (if anyone understands what I mean).
The bedroom door is secured by a mortise key, that should give you an indication of the age and quality of the room. The room itself was old and tired. We were in room 2. The wardrobe was essentially a bit of wood with an opening. The view was of the roof. If you want to plug in the kettle you have to move the kettle to behind the tv which when steam is pouring out the kettle into the back of the tv is not safe at all.
We were only here 1 night and were out most of the time so we stayed.
On returning to the room after going out for dinner we tried to sleep. The seagulls were so loud that was impossible. Also, since the hotel is really a bar this is loud with people laughing and shouting until approx 1am. The room has double glazing but you couldn’t tell.
Eventually falling asleep I was awoken at 5.30 by the seagulls again.
The bathroom is a reasonable size, but that is because the shower is tiny. 700 by 700 maybe? The soap is attached to the wall, there was no holder to take in your own soap, it’s too small anyway. But the dispenser doesn’t pop back up correctly so it took forever to get enough soap.
The walls and ceiling in the bathroom are the plastic sheeting and the floor is vinyl.
The reviews on breakfast were good so I was looking forward to it, unfortunately we were let down again. The room looked dated with plastic table covers wit anchors on? The food was no more than adequate, the poached egg did not have a runny yolk the bacon sausage and black pudding were all just ok and the tomatoes was undercooked and bitter. The coffee was cold.
This hotel charged us £20 a night more than Ardoe house, I would suggest you search Ardoe to see the quality And then you will understand why this review is so poor. Massively overcharged, I would say this is a £50 a night budget hotel at best.
I really cannot believe the other reviews on here, perhaps the other rooms are better.
I would recommend not staying here but looking in Cullen which is just about 5 miles away. The place is nicer than Portsoy and the hotels look much better.

Response from Euan Cameron, Owner at Station Hotel Portsoy

Dear Craig C, I am sorry you did not like your stay with us. The hotel you compare us to is a four star hotel, on the outskirts of Aberdeen. The city was in lockdown by government order, when you stayed, which may have reflected the price you paid. Aberdeen has been very badly affected by the down turn in oil prices, affecting all hotel rates there. Indeed VisitScotland state that coastal locations are doing better than cities just now, We are a family run and owned three star Inn in a small town on the coast, and although we also like and appreciate Ardoe House, we are not comparable to them. It is a pity you did not say anything at the time. It is a difficult time for all hositality businesses during the pandemic and we are even more aware of the importance of great customer service. If you had expressed your unhappiness at any time we would have been quick to do whatever we could to rectify it- apart from the seagulls which we can do nothing about as the coast is their natural habitat.

A lovely hotel that is a little dated in places, but you could tell that it had recently been decorated. The owners are lovely and the hotel is charming. Our large room overlooked the High Street and church. It was very clean and comfortable. The ensuite had a powerful new shower. Although facing the main road, our room was quiet. We stayed on a three night DBB deal which was very good value. The seafood platter was wonderful, as were the homemade brownie and sticky toffee pudding. Breakfast is served in the large function room. Decent selection of cooked food and porridge. There's also a 'retro' bread toaster for you to do your own toast!

Portsoy itself is a lovely place, we visited in May 2021 and we stayed at the Station Hotel for 4 nights dinner, bed and breakfast. The hotel is very clean with all covid-19 safety measures in place and the staff were all super friendly and welcomed our wee dog Dougal who was on his first holiday. We had a great deal which included a 2 course meal each night and we were so glad that we had gone with this deal as the food really is delicious with a different specials board each night so plenty of choice . Breakfast was prepared to order and was also fab. All in all we could not fault this hotel and would highly recommend it, or if you're passing through Portsoy, stop and eat here - you wont be disappointed. Thanks to all for a lovely break.

Family Pension, few rooms only. Although in the main street, extremely quiet. Impeccable cleanliness and above all an impeccable welcome and service from the staff and the property owner. Special mention in the restaurant, a short menu, well cooked fresh produce, we feasted at every meal. Breakfast very rich and varied... We reconciled with the porridge which was excellent and what about the Scottish breakfast!!
In short a highly recommended address to visit this part of Scotland

We stayed at the Castle Hotel for 2 nights and couldn't have been made more welcome. From the phonecall to check on parking on the way to the hotel to checkout everything was first class. The lady who checked us in was very pleasant and chatty and when we went to our room we were pleasantly surprised and impressed with it. It had a huge bed and even though we were roadside we did not hear the traffic at night and, as a previous reviewer had stated, we didnt have a problem with the "noisy seagulls" we did not hear any even though we were at the seaside and were expecting to. Maybe the management had negotiated with them to keep quiet whatever it was it worked. We ate in the hotel on both evenings and the food was excellent, I can recommend the mussels. The breakfast was second to none and was table service for the main course but plenty of help yourself choices of cerals, juice, fruit, yoghurts and toast. The main breakfast had a wealth of choices and we were supplied with copious amounts of tea and coffee. All the staff were friendly and helpful and we had a drink in the bar on both nights and had a pleasant conversation on both occasions. We had a nice tour around the area and even though we live in Inverness had never been to this part of the Highlands before. We will undoubtably be returning and would recommend the hotel to anyone considering a trip. Don't forget to try the Portsoy Ice Cream it was amazing.

Our two night stay in the Station Hotel was as near perfect as possible. Seven adults, three children and three dogs were looked after as if we were family. Portsoy is a place we had lived in and we returned on the occasion of a family bereavement. We were accommodated with great sympathy and understanding and nothing was too large or two small for Susan and her staff. Evening meals for as many as sixteen people were of the highest quality and served beautifully, the reception for thirty people was exactly what we wanted.
Thank you for a memorable two days.

Currently, the Station Hotel doesn’t have much competition as the other hotels and the pub in Portsoy are closed during the pandemic. Consequently the hotel was fully booked and the dining area open to hotel guests only. The Station Hotel is situated on a main road, and we were a little worried that it would be noisy, but the road quietens down considerably at night and the double glazing does its job, so we slept well. Our room was clean and looked like it had been newly decorated. There are tea making facilities and free Wi-fi. Dinner was served in the area next to reception. The hotel does a good fish and chips although the Cullen skink was disappointing. Breakfast is served in a much brighter room at the back of the hotel - the scrambled eggs with salmon was very good. There are a few parking spaces on the road in front of the hotel, but if they are full, there is a free car park next to Loch Soy which has lots of spaces. It’s a short walk to the harbour area and the coastal path walks. Dogs are welcome in the hotel too. Friendly helpful staff.
