I can't say enough about this wonderful stop. The family who runs it are just the best of people. The grounds with all the flowers, water and hummingbirds are absolutely lovely. The cabinas are super comfortable and there are enough blankets to keep you warm on the very chilly mountain night.
Incedibly picturesque grounds, hummingbirds everywhere, amazing fresh fruit drinks (non-alchoholic), great food and service, and on top of it all awe-inspiring waterfall trails through a primary cloud forest. Highly recommended!
We avoid tourist traps and try to find places off the beaten path with true local flavor when we travel. This charming place is one of our favorite spots on the planet. Quiet, beautiful, simple, 100% tico, run by one of the sweetest men we have ever met. His lodge is truly his labor of love, and we loved every moment of our stay. The cabinas are very simple, but this is not a place for luxury lovers. This is a place for nature and culture lovers. Stay here, enjoy the hummingbirds, plants, cloud forest, delicious tico food, waterfalls, and fireplace in one of the cabinas. You may even see a quetzal...we did!
We we looking for a place for dinner, but the hightly recommended Comidas Typicas Miriam was closed on that day. Across the road we asked a man for another location, and i turned out that he is the owner of Las Cataratas Lodge, which was closed on that day too. Never the less, he was kind enought to open the kitchen for us and to prepare a delicious meal just for us. Food was delicious:The fresh salad with a fantastic sauce, fresh vegetagles and a crispy filet of fresh fish. While waiting for the food we hiked the trail down to the waterfalls, and looked around the beautiful property. We will definiutely go there again, and will stay some nights in the cabinas there.
