We must have picked the coldest few days to be there but the staff tried hard to keep us warm, lighting log burners in the public areas and gas fires in our rooms, not to mention giving us hot-water bottles! The rooms were basic but nicely laid out within the premises. There were several short trails you could do on...

Dear SusanRead, Thank you so much for your visit to Trogon Lodge. San Gerardo de Dota is nestled at 7,000 feet (2,200 meters) above sea level, which of course, with the altitude is a much chiller area than most in the country. One of its appealing factors is the refreshing weather during day time and how mystic and chiller it...

The Sevegre valley is at 7,900' above sea level in central Costa Rica. Temperatures are 60-70 deg F all year. There are many endemic birds that are rare elsewhere such as the Resplended Quetzal. There are several other lodges in the valley . They all offer excellent food and accommodations.

Dear JoeD, Glad to hear that you were here for the birdwatching experience. San Gerardo is definitely a great area for birdwatching, with more than 175 bird species identified so far, including the amazing Resplendent Quetzal. Thanks so much for your visit.

The road down from the highway is steep & unmade but didn't prove a problem for the driver of our people carrier. The hotel is nestled in a beautiful valley, with landscaped gardens, a trout pond, and the Saverge river running through it. The chalet we had (no. 7) had a nice view of the gardens & was simply furnished....

The lodge is located a few miles off Hwy 2, the Pan American Highway, a couple hours south of San Jose. It's a very rough and steep road down into a stunning valley where the lodge is located. We made it just fine with a front wheel drive car, but you may need four wheel drive in the rainy season....

We only stayed one night but the grounds were beautiful with trout ponds and flora. We walked on the path to the waterfall. Lots of up and down through a beautiful cloud forest. The grounds have lots to see. Couldn't image seeing hummingbirds every morning. The restaurant was good but think they could be more inventive with their trout. Breakfast...

Trogon Lodge was the fifth and last location that we stayed in during our 2 week trip to Costa Rica. Our initial impression was "we've saved the best until last" as the lodge and gardens are stunning on first sight. The whole site is steep with beautifully tended gardens and a spectacular river running through. We were shown to our...

The Trogon Lodge is in a valley near the Serro de Muerte along the Savegre River. The views, the flowers, the birds, and the river are stunning. The rooms are charming as are the staff. At night they turn on the heat and place hot water bottles in the bed. The breakfast has the traditional gallo de pinto as well...

The complex is situated down in a valley. The road is quite narrow and twisty. You don't want to face another car in the narrow curves. The site is very nice, there is some trails, chairs and tables, etc. There is a river on site making a relaxing sound. The room(cottage) is quite small. In our room we had one...

Dear François G, Thank you for taking the time to review and share your experience at Trogon Lodge. Yes, the last 7 km of the road are on a narrow, windy road. I always stress on the importance of driving carefully, slowly and using the strong shifts of the car to avoid breaks to heat up. The view of the...

Good rooms, attentive staff, lovely grounds and good food. Always felt well looked after. The birding trip found Quetzals - so perfect visit. The drive down to the lodge is a bit hairy but needs must.

The stunning grounds are one of the highlights of this lodge. Most people come for the birdwatching, and especially the Quetzal! Don't be fooled by the lattitude. It gets cold at night. The cabins have plenty of bedding and the staff drops of a hot water bottle at bedtime. About a quarter of our companions had no heat in their...
