Stayed here a number of times. Guaranteed a warm welcome by Mari-Cruz and Graham, comfortable accommodation, excellent home cooked meals. Arrived by motorcycle and by car, its out of the way. I highly recommend for a quiet relaxed break, chilling in the hotel garden, strolling the local country side with Graham and Marie-Cruz or siting in the lounge in an...

From the 1st to the 7th of August we had the pleasure of staying at Casa Zalama. What a fantastic week it was. Mari Cruz and Graham are great and lovely hosts who really made us feel welcome and at home. Whether your general experience and final judgement is mainly based on authentic food with local and biological ingredients, local...

Stayed here last Sunday before heading back to Santander (approx 2hrs away on a lovely road) having been recommended by a fellow biker. A beautifully restored building with things of interest all over the place. If you do stay, make sure you take the evening meal. It was some of the best food we have had in Spain. Hopefully we...

Our family of three and grandparents had a fabulous 3 night stay at Casa Zalama. We did not know much about the area but Mari-Cruz and Graeme gave us lots of incredible advice on the stunning surrounding area (Caves, old villages, local markets etc.). Their house is stunning, the meals were delicious (using lots of local produce), and we all...

After Paradors and hotels Casa Zalama was a nice change of pace. It was like staying with friends in the countryside. Mari Cruz and Graeme were very welcoming in this country cottage which they have totally restored. We enjoyed two home cooked dinners during our stay and both were excellent three course offerings with a good choice of reasonably priced...

Both hosts were so welcoming, and made us feel relaxed and comfortable. We were travelling with young children, so we had additional needs which were all catered for. This region of Spain is very dramatic and worth exploring. It is a very rural location but it is less than an hour to Bilbao on a good main road.

This was an amazing stay, a life experience. Peaceful, except for the gentle ring of cow bells, birds singing and crickets chirping. Fourteen people living in the village don't expect anything other than a relaxing time. Grahame and Marie-Cruz are great hosts, and make you very welcome. We spent the evening watching a roaring log fire and drinking one of...

We stayed in the self catering cottage - La Casita (opposite Casa Zalama) & owned by Marie cruz & Graeme - for the 2nd time in May 2014 ( previously 2 years before) . We were made so welcome, the cottage was small but perfectly equipt with all we needed. There was a lovely terrace garden looking out over fields...

San Pelayo is not so much a village as a hamlet and it is not in a particularly attractive spot but this bed and breakfast is well 'worth a detour' for the hospitality. The whole building has been restored with charm and character so that the bedrooms are extremely comfortable while the lounge and dining room is a joy with...

“All the rooms in the main house looked very good, although we actually stayed in the cottage - we did have a tour of the main house, gardens and facilities. Rooms at the front of main house m overlook the gardens and have a small balcony. La Casita has it's own private terrace.”
