The views from gardens are beautiful. Breakfast good value, hot & tasty. Room, toilets & shower clean & recently modernised, although pretty basic. Nice & warm, thermostat on radiator. Sink in room useful. Plenty of storage in room - take a small padlock if you want to lock it. Friendly staff.

My wife and I stayed at the Swale Room for a great price at the end of August for a couple nights' break. The lodge is located in the middle of the dales with truly breathtaking views of Swaledale. There is a restaurant on site, so you really don't have to worry about leaving the lodge once you've arrived. There... More

Very good Hostel with good rooms and food, staff very helpful and polite. Good outside areas to relax in as well and a short walk down the hill to the Bridge pub. Would stay again as enjoyed my stay. Plenty of walking straight from the hostel, Large car park so no problem parking.

We stayed in a camping pod at Grinton. The staff were friendly, and the site was very quiet and welcoming. The lighting in the pods are quite dim, and it would have been nice to have a kettle or something in the pod itself. I've stayed in others which have this. I do think YHA is getting a bit pricey... I stayed here with my sister in sept, as part of a rag rug weekend. We hadn't stayed in a youth hostel before but were very pleasantly surprised by th comfort and service we received. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. The food was wonderful, as a vegetarian when eating out I'm often presented with at most 2 options... More

Had two nights here and again, friendly warm welcome. I decided to cook my own meals, bar breakfast. The catering kitchen is well equipped and despite being small, it does the job. The breakfast was very good, enough to set you for the day ahead. The droms are basic, but warm and clean and for £10 a night, cheaper than... More

We was hesitant about booking into a YHA Hostel due to not knowing what to expect, but after our stay, I would pick this over a hotel any day. Stayed in an en suite room, spotlessly clean and very modern. No noise at all regardless of the fact a school was staying in the hostel aswell. The staff at the... More

On arrival Chris the manager was so friendly and helpful (as we'd got a bit delayed and missed opportunity of dinner) he phoned the local pub at the foot of the hill in Grinton (The Bridge Inn) and booked us in for dinner. Had a great time in Grinton, felt like an adventure for our wee one as well -... More

Its hard to write this review because all i can say is how excellent the lodge, the pods, the location and especially all the staff (Charlotte i said id give you a mention ;-) ) were. The reason its hard is because i dont want it to be full all the time because me and my two boys will definitely... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Enjoy exceptional views from this former shooting lodge on the southern slopes of Swaledale. The Coast to Coast walk passes close by and there are plenty of other good routes for walking holidays as well. Mountain bikers can head straight from the hostel and choose a challenge to suit. Historic Richmond is only 10 miles away and is well worth a visit. For something a bit different, try YHA's first camping pods at YHA Grinton. We have five pods available sleeping up to a family of four. To tempt you after your day of activities, tasty meals and drinks are available from the bar. ... more   less
