My daughter & husband, my wife and I (not to mention the 2 dogs) had a wonderful stay at Strand Cottage. We were made very welcome by our hosts Angela and Mike who were very helpful and pleasant. The accommodation and food were first class. If it's the Wall you want, then Strand Cottage is the place to be! I...

Strand Cottage is the perfect place to visit the wall - very close to vindolanda, housesteads and the roman army museum. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, and the facilities very good (toys, wireless connection ). We used both the family room, and a double room. Angela and Mike were extremely helpful, both in the advice about the area, and in...

My son loved that there were books and toys provided in the room and my husband and i liked that there was a video played and a video on bird identification there. I had a wonderful stay at the Strand for two weeks this summer, when I was a volunteer excavator at Vindolanda. Mike offered to pick me up from the station on arrival and drop me off when I left; they also walked with me up to Vindolanda to show me the most scenic route. Breakfasts were both generous and delicious...

[We had very limited time in the area due to other commitments.] Our family of 4 took 2 rooms at the cottage. A warm, friendly welcome on our arrival and then being shown to our room with good views over the hills. The room was very comfortable and away from any noise, with the exception of the sheep in the fields. The location was ideally situated to explore many of the sites associated with the Roman Wall, with Vindalando and the wall...
