Hospes Maricel is an attractive period building beautifully situated on the sea with great views across the Bay of Palma. Unfortunately the pictures of our room type (luxury sea view) on the website did not reflect the reality of the room we were allocated on the top (third) floor. It had just one tiny window which made you feel like you were staying in a cell. The website stated that the hotel was adults only until October (no children age 2-12) and yet there were children running around us and screaming whilst we ate dinner on the terrace. The hotel explained that they had accidentally taken a booking for 11 that night which included several children. The food was not bad in general. The service was well meaning, but chaotic. Management conspicuous by its absence. Price creates an expectation and Hospes Maricel fell a long way short of its price tag and the way it positions itself on its website. It's such a shame. With better management, this could be a really good hotel…
Overall this is a hotel with a lot of potential (beautiful building) and enthusiastic staff. Unfortunately, management is invisible and the hotel does not live up to its positioning, hence the 1 star. It guarantees a child free environment (no children 2-12 yrs), yet the terrace and restaurant were swarming with children from 9pm to 11pm. When complaining to staff, they apologised and recommended that we enjoy the view instead *LOL*. If you, like us, want a premium, adult holiday, this is not the place for you. Consider other options.
With hotels of this ilk there are many thinks that are expected & taken for granted. Unfortunately some, still fail to deliver on these basics, however, the staff at Hospes Maricel make the difference. Whilst the hotel delivers as would be expected on every front, all of the staff go that extra mile and a half and make a wonderful experience a complete and utter pleasure. Nothing is too much trouble. I cannot and couldn't congratulate the Hospes Maricel and it's staff enough for making our stay extra special. Thank you.
I was there with a girlfriend of mine who celebrated her Birthday. We had a beautiful pool side cabana, lunch in the restaurant and fantastic swim in the cristal clear sea. This hotel has deserved the 5 star for design, high quality architecture and building, cleanliness and service. A big thank you to Miss Bettina Kofler who went above and beyond to get us a cabana and took such good care of us. I will definitely come back and I recommend this heaven of luxury and peace to anyone who wants to visit Mallorca.
We went to Hospes Maricel for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. If you are looking for a very lazy holiday then this is perfect, there isn’t a huge amount to do around the hotel but all we wanted was to lounge around the pool and enjoy the views. There is a lovely little beach you can swim to from the hotel. Limited vegetarian options on the menu but they said they would cook me anything else if I told them, so I asked for a Spanish omelette one night and I think it’s the best one I’ve ever had. Friendly staff and the pool on our balcony was a luxury. To top it off I left a much loved jumper behind in reception and they posted it all the way back to the UK for me! We’d love to go back. The only negative was that bizarrely they didn’t have enough shades for the sun beds. That meant the lifeguard was having to play musical sunshades, constantly taking them from people who didn’t want shade and giving them to people who did. We got wise to this and managed to always get shade but some people were stuck without. Surely it would make sense for each set of sun beds to have their own shade?…
