A beautiful building in a lovely, historic town. A traditional, West Country welcome, friendly locals and pleasant surroundings. Unfortunately the food followed the Greene King chain formula and was less exciting and tasty than hoped for.

I visited here a few weeks ago on a friday night with a friend. we couldn't find any member of staff that worked in the restaurant area or a menu to look at. so ended up having to queue at the bar for quite some time, which wasn't what you expect from a 'classy' pub. The girl that served us...

Called in today with Ramblers friends and was surprised that we were lucky enough to take over a smaller room (but there was a lady on her own having lunch) - the price of drinks are extremely reasonable considering it is a hotel £1.50 for a 1/2 pint of the local cider We had to leave as we had to...

Visited here for lunch with my Son, his wife and the 2 Grandchildren. Absolutely ideal. Very nicely furbished inside, the staff couldn't be more helpful. The seafood platter was good, so was the steak and the children's meals also good. The desserts were fantastic - Michelin standard and I highly recommend.

Visited for dinner early week, fairly quiet as expected. Decor is good, recently refurbished in a modern pub/shabby chic style. Just as you would expect from a large pub chain (Greene King). Service was slow but friendly. Food was very average, both had steaks - one was cooked perfectly, the other was under done and very, very tough, which for...

This is a beautiful building, and important location in Castle Cary. It is very average, and could be better. I wish it were. I have lived in Cary for a long time, and I would love it to be better. The service needs to be smarter , look better, more professional. This is a special place, step up to the...

Came to Castle Cary for a family holiday. We ate in the George 3 times, and every time it was fabulous. Food is brilliant and the chef likes to experiment a bit. Service can be a little slow, but that's a price worth paying to know the food is cooked from fresh. Not cheap, but I highly recommend.

This is a wonderful old Inn in a great position in town but it has been spoiled by an attempt to modernise it. The decor leaves a lot to be desired, lots of so called industrial lighting everywhere etc. and it just looks wrong and spoils the place. The food is generally good but the specials on the board are...

I have stayed here the past 4 weekends on business. I can't rate it highly enough, rooms are comfortable, food is very good and staff are accommodating. It's a sport friendly pub which shows free to view matches and has final score on tv. Locals are also friendly. Would go back.

I'm not from this area and booked without even knowing really where it was in relation to work. Wow what a find. Warm welcome, young gentleman asked to carry my bags ( hope it was the norm and not because I looked dishevelled and old! Lol ) Room very clean tidy ( I have a bath!!!!! Yay ) I have...
