we've been travelling japan for a month now and this is the worst place we stayed by japan standard and value for money. We've travelled philippines for a long time so we are experienced with hostels. It's way too expensive for it's LOCATION, I mean it's literally dead around there and a good 5 minute walk to the station which...

Located about half a km from Minowa subway, just walked straight through 5 light traffics and in walking distance from iconic Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. It's a multi-floor old building, with old decoration. We stayed in triple-bed room, once entering, unpleasant smell touched our noses. The Room was small and the bathroom was even very small, with just mini-refrigerator, tea bags and set. However,Staff was...

I wasn't sure how this place would be as I was booking so last minute and it was all that was available at a good price, but I had a very comfortable stay! It is not far from Minowa subway and if you ask for a map at the station very easy to find, owner was friendly and has good...

First off, the owner is awesome! Nice guy, and gave me a discount without me asking, because the only room left was a single. The price was about 20 USD. The beds are hard, but it's Japan. Bathrooms and room was clean to the naked eye. The living room/kitchen area was nice. My room came with a TV and there...

Only stayed two nights, room was well equipped & comfortable, a little dated but that's not on our priority list. Very central to Minowa station. We booked a visit to view sumo wrestling training at a local stable, we were escorted by Daisuke, from Bakpakl Hostel, on bicycles which was very refreshing at 8am. The training was mesmerising & intense,...

I booked a 10 people room but actually it was divided into 2 part so we were only 5 in my part! The hostel is situated just near Asakusa neightborhood were you can find temples, shopping and local restaurants/bars. Receptionnists are cool and the hostel offers nice facilities : massage chairs, computers, hot drinks ... Nice :)

This place is good for people looking to find a place to stay in Tokyo on a budget. It has amenities such as a common area kitchen, hot private showers, computer lounge, and a smoking area. We booked a room for two and since this was not the room we booked (didn't have a bathroom) so I was given a...

It's cheap and has a good location. When me and my friend arrived at the hostel, they had made a mistake with the booking, so we had to stay in two different dorm rooms. Also, the staff can't really speak english. It's not the best hostel in the area but they can accommodate a lot of people and the price...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
