My husband and I took our first trip to Japan last month for our 5th wedding anniversary. We stayed at this ryokan for our first 4 nights and were so happy we did! It is NOT a western style hotel, but that is what I loved most! Yes, there are shared bathrooms but it was never an issue for us...

The staff are very helpful and friendly and the ryokan is conveniently located to the Ikebukuro station, which was very handy. We really enjoyed our stay here. The one negative thing I can say is that our room had a very distinctive smell which was a bit off putting. Perhaps it was just our floor (fifth floor). But I would...

Dear guest, Thank you very much for chosing our accomodation again! We really hope you enjoyed your stay and your trip in Tokyo as well. I am sorry to hear that the flooring smell was bothering you during the period, I assume it was the natural smell from the Japanese style flooring Tatami, which is quite wierd for foreigners. We...

I stayed here on my first night in Japan and on the last two. The first night was great as I was placed on the 4th floor. There was a washroom outside my room and everyone was quiet. On the last two nights when I arrived, I was initially placed in the room right be side the elevator and across...

Dear guest, Thank you very much for your stay in Kimi Ryokan with us. First of all, we are so sorry for the inconvenience we have caused during your second stay. We usually close our lounge before 1:00am, and we always try to make sure that it is kept quite during the night time, but our staff must have been...

It was the second time I stayed in this ryokan. It's not in Tokyo's' center, but with easy access through the subway. It has all I need, showers and restrooms are shared but private. Staff is friendly, helpful, and speaks English. The owner, Kisaburo san, is a nice person. The ryokan has a shared refrigerator, hot water and hot green...

We stayed in this ryokan for 4 nights at the beginning of our trip around Japan, and again in the end for 3 nights. We would recomment this ryokan to budget travellers who would like to experience a traditional Japanese accommodation. The hostel provides a yukata and a towel, which come in very handy if you decide to use their...

We stayed here for our first night in Tokyo then returned again for a 2 night stay after one week. The Ikebukuro area itself is a bit off the main attractions such as Shibuya, Asakusa, Ginza or Shinjuku but the commute is not too bad. Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighbourhood Profile
Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
