I had never visited the Bistro before but had heard favourable reports about it. My friends and I had the two course option from the set lunch menu-there is also a three course one. Both are very reasonably priced at about £10 and £13 respectively. The venue is attractive and service was friendly and efficient. The fish and chips were...

I recently stayed with my family and enjoyed a very enjoyable two night stay. I had a wonderful sleep in the extremely comfortable beds, the food was to a high standard and the staff were all very friendly. The rooms could do with a bit of modernisation, but they were fully stocked with everything that you'd need. The hotel itself...

Hello rivaScotland, Thank you so much for your kindness and your review. Confused about your comments on breakfast, as we have standardised ratios for staffing, and we've been working with our customary provision of breakfast buffet, for a very considerable time. We look forward to welcoming you back to Balbirnie on another future occasion. All best wishes from one and...

Wonderful experience. Sarah Rees excellent in helping plan the evening. Drinks in the Gallery Hall, relaxing. Then dinner in the Garden room, a lovely, private space. Food and wine excellent, as was service from Brandon. I am a wheelchair user - very well provided for. The building is beautiful, inside and out. We shall return!

Stayed over the weekend for a family wedding, the hotel is the classic country house hotel, full of character and period features. Great place to stay. The rooms were a good size with comfortable beds and they had an Nespresso machine in the rooms instead of the usual kettle and a Scottish favourite a Tunnocks Teacake unusual but very welcomed....

Hello Grant, Re 'extortionate bar prices' - well, at the point of writing we're £3.80 for a pint of Carlsberg, in the context of competitor analysis pricing, you'll find that really is truly wonderful value. Indeed, the value-for-money we apply into all of our bar pricing, is very high on the list of ranking priority for many wedding clients who...

The entrance drive and hotel are impressive but the hotel is in definite need of tlc and updating. My room, up two flights of stairs and then a further 30 yards, was enormous and quite chilly. I personally feel your comments made to a local lady celebrating her 35th wedding anniversary were horrible!

I fully support dawn t on this and feel your response is condescending in the truest sense of the word, you appear to show an attitude of patronizing superiority when you state, " Balbirnie's Snr Manager in charge of Guest Services, has already gone a country mile to do everything possible to exceed what any logically thinking guest would consider as truly wonderful service"

How dare you? this part of your statement, "logically thinking guest" is an insult to dawn t and your lifeline in your chosen career, hospitality - GUEST SATISFACTION! What gives you the right to be this demeaning and make such an arrogant statement ?

When you book the Orangery at 8-00pm you expect the Orangery at 8-00pm and not pathetic excuses on one's special night saying you were busy. As dawn t specifically points out, you weren't busy/fully booked when she arranged their anniversary event.

Is it the fact dawn t is simply a local lass spending what could be classed as an inconsiderable amount of money in your establishment in comparison to the larger parties, that she is relegated to second/third class service whilst the larger groups receive a better class of service, I hesitate to use the words first class as it doesn't apply unless every guest is satisfied and, as this event experienced by dawn t shows, that was not the case.

This response is purely my personal opinion at the way you have handled, or mishandled this complaint. I hope you do host dawn t again, should she choose to visit, and get it right next time.

Lastly, ponder this, most people get married once. But after that they celebrate that event annually, perhaps you need to consider this as a more important, and consistent, alternative revenue stream than you currently seem to.
