My husband and I were fortunate enough to stay at the Abama in October 2020, and it was truly a luxurious, relaxing vacation with an incredible culinary experience. From the moment we arrived and were greeted with glasses of cava, we knew that we would be in for a lovely holiday. The staff were very friendly, and Carla made us feel very welcome. We stayed in a villa on Calle Dos, with a stunning view of the sea from our balcony. It was great to have our own private pool for everyone staying in the Calle Dos villas, as we got to see familiar faces and got to know the wonderful staff who serviced the pool (a big thank you to Rocio for being so kind and attentive!). After going to the gym (very clean, lots of equipment, great view of the golf course) and eating breakfast at El Mirador, we spent our mornings on the beach enjoying the sand before making our way back to our pool in the afternoon. There were only two restaurants open during our stay, but with so many different menu options we ate something new everyday. Txoko had extremely inventive cuisine, and El Mirador had the most stunning nighttime views (and Adrian, a very nice and professional server). We felt very safe and comfortable staying here during the pandemic. We wore masks to get to and from different locations at the hotel, but that didn't bother us in the least. All of the other guests and staff were well-equipped and respectful, so that added to our level of comfort. Our room was cleaned everyday, and we were confident in the level of cleanliness. I also indulged in a spa treatment, and my masseuse was very professional and wore his mask the entire time. We could not be happier with the high quality service, warm welcome, friendly atmosphere, and delicious cuisine that we experienced at the Abama. We cannot wait to return.…
Just a note on the tennis coach Hegoi who was so patient and nice with me. He also gave some lessons to my 4 year old and was just amazing. Both very professional and kind. My son speaks about tennis every day now! Thanks Hegoi !
If you are a family looking to go away there is no better place. We’ve just come back from a 2 week holiday over Christmas and New Year and would continue to recommend the Abama. There is a good choice of restaurants if you didn’t want to leave the resort, choice of hotel rooms or villa rooms (we stay in the villas as you have direct access to a pool which is great if you have a baby/child that naps and you want to be close) , the staff are very friendly and accommodating, the weather is good etc. Nothing more that you could want! For those with babies or young children we use a company called Great British Nannies for babysitting in the evening - highly recommend Jennifer and her team especially Sharron. Looking forward to returning and thank you for a wonderful time!
What a stunning way to start the year! The Ritz Carlton Abama is a pure oasis in the middle of the Atlantic, with impressive views, premium service - as usual in the brand. The resort counts with several pools and direct access to a pristine beach. The shuttle service and connecting train allow the guests to jump from one part to another, making sure that every second is really well spent in the property. We stayed in one villa with one bedroom with premium view to the Atlantic Ocean - it is indescribable to wake up with such landscape and with the sounds of nature - looks like we are in a middle of a tropical forest, taking into account the number of palm trees and other beautiful species. After many stays at several Ritz Carlton properties, the level of luxury across the entire property is already a known fact. However, what makes really a difference from property to property is the outstanding level of service provided by the Ladies & Gentleman. The “Damas & Caballeros” from the Ritz Carlton Abama went the extra mile to give us an unforgettable experience, and, at a same time, multiple reasons to go back soon. Rest assure that every request will be delivered and all your needs will be timely foreseen by the team. I could describe many situations that made me feel, once again, at home, but I invite all the Tripadvisor readers to check by themselves what it is to be served by the Ladies & Gentlemen from Abama… it is a lifetime experience. I simply cannot wait to go back. For now, would like to send my best regards and word of appreciation to all the team, in special to Luis, Silvia, Clara, Mario, João (Front Office), all the Shuttle Guys, Ana and Yazmina, Sergio and Jump, Araceli, Nieves and Amal (Housekeeping - all amazing), Brunella (!!!) and Diodoro and all Verona team, Carla, Diana and all team from El Mirador, Isabelle and team, and finally, a very special note to Rafael and Mr. de Clerck - a general manager that clearly knows what he is doing!…
My wife and I were very much looking forward to our first break away in 18 months and some respite from the CV19 shenanigans that has plighted all our lives since early 2020. We decided to stay here by recommendation but mainly due to it being located adjacent to a great golf course. Our main reason for the stay was indeed the golf and hopefully some warm weather, thankfully we got both. Initial impressions were excellent upon arrival at the hotel, friendly greeting and painless check in. The standard rooms were more than adequate and that comes from someone who often likes to splash out on a larger than standard room. There is no need to do this here as the standard room was spacious enough along with the bathroom, which was well lit for Mr L getting ready for the evening. There was also a balcony to use but it was quite dark so we rarely ventured out there save to dry out some wet swim wear. Bed was very comfortable, TV choices as one would expect nothing fancy but enough and I liked the fact you could connect TV via Bluetooth to your phone for music. The staff throughout our stay were exemplary and nothing was too much trouble. Room service was also extremely speedy, whether it be a bucket of ice or indeed more milk / coffee pods they were at your door before you could shout " I need more ice!" The espresso machine was also a nice touch as I was worried that this may have been withdrawn due to CV19 restrictions. There was also a kettle and a decent fridge to keep drinks well chilled. The communal areas inside the hotel are beautifully designed / set out with some really nice comfortable furniture to relax upon. The external areas are also well set out which added to the experience. The two pools available for our use were more than adequate albeit were little crowded one morning when it felt a like a creche with lots of toddlers around. Thankfully we only had to endure this for one day, which may sound harsh but I did the young family thing years ago and I totally understand why there is a market for kid free hotels. The whole place was being constantly cleaned throughout and sun beds wiped / disinfected before / after use which was good to see. There was a limited selection of restaurants available during our stay which Im putting down to the CV19 however all but one had excellent food and service. Favourite restaurant was Verona where we ate the best Veal Milanese ever! We had opted for a HB package which worked well for us as we had no transport (save for a single days car hire) and it would have cost us substantially more had we paid each evening. There were some minor restrictions on choice BUT usually everything was available for a small additional charge. Wine again as you would expect in a 5 star resort was not cheap and we spent around 80 to 90 euro per night for two people, which inc drinks, food add on's and a tip for the staff, which I like to pay in hard cold cash. There were also options to eat al fresco as well in the evening but even with the portable heaters it was just a tad too cool to sit outside. The breakfast was excellent also and Id like to extend my thanks to all the breakfast staff who in particular worked extremely hard under the current conditions to ensure everyone got plenty of choice and remained socially distanced. There wasn't anything that I felt was missing at breakfast and the restaurant was very spacious with a great outdoor space warm enough in the morning sun. The only slight issue I had was that upon arrival you had to download an App onto your phone, not a problem as such BUT you had to pre book for dinner & breakfast and sometimes slots were few and far between plus, and this is my personal preference I never like to set a time too far ahead for any meals it feels a little restrictive for me whilst on holiday. I like nothing better some days filling up on snacks throughout the day leaving me less than hungry! I would add though that whenever I did have slight issue booking a meal (eg we arrived late first evening and no breakfast slots were left for the following morning) the reception were very accommodating. I also liked the fact that the restaurants in the evening were formal enough to allow dressing for dinner. Im not suggesting a dinner jacket here just that myself and Mrs L enjoy making a little effort for our evening meal. It always puzzles me to see some people eating in flip flops and T shirts, standards these days do appear to have slipped somewhat? I intend to review each restaurant separately (should TA allow?) along with the Abama Golf Course, which I do believe is not actually run by the hotel (I stand corrected if this is not the case) albeit adjacent to it? If you are looking for some winter sunshine, relaxation and recuperation I cannot think of anywhere nicer than the Ritz Carlton Abama Resort.…
