The stay at Nick and Jody’s place was amazing. Every detail is thought about and cared. The rooms are spacious, clean and cool with nice shower and beds. The cooling system is in the floor, so it doesn’t make any noise and doesn’t blow cold air on you. The hosts are wonderful people who care about you and the staff is friendly and helpful. We’ve dined only here as the food here is excellent and reasonably priced. The views are great, the place is private and the children were spoiled with drinks and ice cream. They were also happy to play with the local cats and dogs :) We felt welcome as if we’re guests in someone’s home not as hotel customers. I recommend it fully and hope to visit here again!

Absolutely beautiful venue! Jodie and Nick have made substantial improvements since my last visit four years ago. Our dinner was outstanding Jodie was very gracious in escorting us into her village to get a tire repaired. Highly recommend the Lemon Tree which is only 45 minutes from Granada but situated in the beautiful countryside surrounded by almond and olive trees.

We went their for some peace and quiet for our wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. Nick and Jody were great hosts and the countryside surrounding El Amparo is stunning. The beds were so comfortable which is unusual in Spain. We will certainly be back (return now already booked).

El Amparo is a nice country hotel situated in a valley 60 minutes away from Granada. Jody & Nick manage the hotel. They renovated it and bulit a second wing, making it a 10-room hotel. We had a nice stay at el Amparo. However, there were quite some ‘buts’. Pleasant: - Flexibility: the hosts are flexibel. We could prolong our stay with a call just 2 days before checkin. We also got a meal served when all restaurants were closed at 9pm in Alhama. - Beautiful views on the Andalusian landscape - Nicely renovated rooms - Clean rooms and every day new towels - Quiet location - Big pool - Amenities like a whirlpool, free parking, free water brought up to the room every day, books & DVDs to borrow Improvement potential: - Breakfast: for the luxurious hotel el Amparo claims to be the continental breakfast buffet is rather small. There are no croissants, you have to pay extra for orange juice, there is only one kind of cheese, fried eggs are not offered and the variety of cold cuts is small. Given that it is a 4-star hotel, the breakfast should be more generous. - Rather expensive extras: a glass of red wine that you buy at the supermarket for 7€ costs up to 9€ (however, the serving is generous). Also the ‘gourmet pizzas’ are rather expensive, costing 15€. Given that they are pre made pizzas with some toppings of your choice. A bottle of Freixenet cava costs 15€, in the store you get it for 5€. - Pool: the temperature is too cold and the cleanliness is not always the best, with their cats and their dog drinking out of it. - Jody and Nick are often either not available (siesta from 3-6.30 pm) or out of the house, leaving the guests alone. So if you want a bottle of wine you either have to wait for them or you take the car and drive to the gas station in Alhama (15 min). Many hotels solve that with a nice pool bar. But in el Amparo the pool bar is merely a small fridge with some water, soft drinks and beer (all rather expensive). - Remoteness: the beautiful views also come along with the remoteness of the hotel. You need a car. Granada is an hour away and is the only place with a big variety of restaurants and bars. All in all it is definitely a nice hotel in a beautiful landscape but it is not what you would expect from a rather costly luxury retreat.

Hi Ja D, Thank you for your review, it's always good to address guest concerns, and make improvements ! Firstly breakfast, we do offer fried eggs or omelettes so we apologise that was not clear, we am in the process of making up a little sign for next season ! We decided to offer a selection of pastries rather than Croissants, as we try and be as relaxed as possible with guests times for breakfast and found that Croissants tended to go hard quite quickly, but we will perhaps revisit that decision for next year. It should also be noted whilst we try as much as we can to provide our guests with extra services to make their stay as enjoyable as possible, it is very important to know we are a Bed & Breakfast with 8 rooms, that tries to provide more, and not a 4 star hotel. Please let us know if you have seen a listing where it says we are a 4 star hotel and we will get them to correct it, as we can see that would be confusing. We are quite often out shopping and we do take a siesta each day :-) As far as the wines are concerned, we try and offer a wide variety which we have carefully selected and does involve quite a bit of running around in Granada wine shops, we do have a €9 wine Reserva, for a large glass ( 1/3 of a bottle ) but also have very nice house wines for €4.50, we try and provide a variety. The newly tiled swimming pool is not heated currently, as we just finished the refurbishment of the entire pool area we hope to have a heater and thermal cover fitted for next year, at the end over the season in Late September it can get a bit brisk ! So this is on our list. As far as cleanliness we have a very sophisticated UV filtration system, the pool water has passed through our reverse osmosis filter (you are swimming in drinking water :-) ) and the water is crystal clear the whole year round. We have not noticed the cats taking a drink but we'll see what we can do there ! The honesty bar by the pool with drinks from €1-€2.50 is there for convenience, again we can see if you thought we were a 4 star hotel you would have different expectations so we apologise for that, every year Jody and I try and make improvements to the property, maybe one day we will be a 4 star hotel but for now we are just a rural guest house constantly striving to add extras , so we thank you so much for your feedback.... Best regards Nick & Jody x

We highly recommend this place. It had everything for a totally relaxing 3 days. The room was spacious and comfortable, the pool area was well maintained, breakfast was great, beautiful views, evening meal for 30 euros was excellent value (3 courses). Nick and Jody were great hosts and very helpful. The B and B is off the beaten track but quite close to a small town. Granada is an easy drive away. We hope to return one day 😆
