Detailed Reviews
Just back from a 2 night stay in the Raheen Woods Hotel. We had a fantastic time and absolutely loved this hotel. We were told it was a child friendly hotel and that's why we picked it and they didn't disappoint. My daughter was handed a small tub of ice cream on arrival by the most friendliness receptionist we have ever met. We got to our room which was a bit outdated to be honest, the furniture needs to be replaced or uncycled but this could be just a number of rooms and not every room. The TV and mirror location was a bit odd if you wanted to sit and dry your hair but not a big deal. We didn't like the hard pillows after the 1st night and requested new softer ones and all pillows were replaced nearly instantly and without fuss. There is a pool and a soft play which my daughter used and loved. We thought the soft play was going to be small but it's quite large. There is a €5 charge for the soft play but that's a very small price to pay and we were told we could stay for as long as we liked. Just to note if using the pool and have a disability, there isn't any disability access to the pool only the metal stairs. The food in the hotel was fantastic. We ate in the hotel both days and everyone's meal was cooked to perfection, great portions and great prices. The waiting staff and hotel staff were so friendly and chatty and we felt right at home. Every single staff member we passed greeted us in some way. At one stage my daughter fell in the fairy garden that they have there and we asked reception for a plaster for her hand. There wasn't anything major wrong with her hand but you know 4 year olds they want a plaster for everything. We thought nothing more of it until we were sitting for dinner and the manager came to our table to ask how she was and offered her another tub of ice cream. The attention to detail is second to none. Seriously if you are looking for a break away with your children, this is the place to go. It has everything you need, we didn't leave the hotel and on your way home turoe pet farm is 15 mins away and well worth the visit. We will back again and thank the Raheen Woods Hotel for a fantastic stay.

Dear Brenda S. Thank you so much for such a lovely and honest for your review. I am thrilled that you felt at ease with us and that you experienced what is great about Irish Hospitality. As a family run hotel it makes a huge difference when it comes to our guests i find as we all have families and we all know how we would like them to feel and to be greeted if they were going away for a few days. I'm so happy to hear so many positive reviews about our very young team. They are a great bunch and in this day and age with the difficulty in getting staff we are thrilled with the team we are in the process of rebuilding. Regarding your room and its décor we are almost complete with our full renovation of all rooms so perhaps this may have been on the list to complete. I believe it is the small touches that make us a great hotel and the attention to detail which all makes for a great experience. It was important to us that your little girl was checked on as the majority of our management team have families so we know how delicate our little ones are and the wonders that a small bit of ice cream can do to cure all ailments . We would love to welcome you and your family back in the very near future and ask that you contact Deirdre or I at deirdre@raheenwoodshotel.ie or oisin@raheenwoodshotel.ie and we will be more than happy to take good care of you.

We had a very enjoyable two night stay at The Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry. The Hotel was spotless throughout and check-in was well organised and very informative. The staff were all very professional, friendly and attentive. We had all of our meals at the hotel during our stay and the food was delicious with plenty of variety on the menu. I particularly liked that there were numerous quiet comfortable areas throughout the hotel to relax with a cup of coffee and a book. The room was large, very comfortable and well equipped. Covid regulations were complied with throughout the hotel with plenty of hand sanitizer available. We are looking forward to our next stay.

Stayed in the hotel for a mid week spa break. Arrived a little early but receptionist said she would ring once ready so I went to the bar for lunch. Staff in bar were very friendly and attentive. I had my massage booked for 3 and at 2.45 I had to check with Reception again if room was ready. Apprently it was ready ages but reception never rang me! Stayed in room 102. Room was modern and well equipped. The spa was great and hot stone massage excellent. Unfortunate after that everything went down hill. I went to use the pool . It was so packed with kids screaming and running around I had to immediately leave as the pool was cramped and dangerous . Reading policy kids are to vacate the bar by 9pm however there was a Family of with kids at 1.30pm shouting and slamming doors . The walls are paper thin so they continued to bang and talked extremely loudly. Breakfast was a disaster. Chaotic staff running about like headless chickens. I waited to be seated nobody came so I sat at a free table. While eating my breakfast a staff member came down and started mumbling and pulling plates around my table. I asked was there an issue and was told it was a table for lunch. I explained no staff were there When I arrived and no sign to state tables could not be used. She didn’t care and walked off. Numerous guests were wandering around looking for clean plates and cutlery from the lunch tables. The set up made absolute no sense. The only plus was the staff at reception and spa. Other than that wouldn’t return . Such a pity as I work for a multinational company and bring customers for dinners, meetings and also provide accommodation and I was considering this hotel but after the experience I have reconsidered not to.

Thank you prendep2016 for your comments. I have informed the pool about your concerns but i can say that at no time is the pool unsafe with kids. Maybe it is a preference of yours not to have kids around which is something we unfortunately can not control. I would have liked the opportunity to meet with you and hear your concerns after your breakfast experience as opposed to you insult their efforts online. As you could see it was quite busy and our staff were looking after a number of guests requests at the time. Ii will take your criticism on board and endeavour to implement the necessary changes and i do not wish to have unsatisfied customers as we value their custom and business. If you would like to discuss further i am contactable at the hotel on 091 875 888

Stayed for one night at this hotel - 2 adults and 2 kids. We booked because it was affordable and in a good location for us but we had no idea what to expect, and were very pleasantly surprised by every aspect of this hotel.
It was cozy and welcoming, and our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. All of the staff that we met were lovely and went out of their way to help. They implemented all of the necessary Covid-19 precautions but without detracting from the warm welcome or fabulous service and food. The kids were given a complimentary hot chocolate and cookie, which was a lovely touch and endeared this hotel to them even more!
The pool area was lovely, and again the staff were welcoming, efficient and dealt with all restrictions in a professional way.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel and will definitely return!

The hotel is located in a residential area half an hour from Galway. The area is very quiet and the hotel has a large free car park. The breakfast is excellent, there is even a machine that prepares pancakes on the spot! The rooms are large and finely furnished. The hotel is old but is well maintained! We really enjoyed the swimming pool, the Jacuzzi and the area with sauna and steam room. The towel is provided by the hotel. The cap is mandatory for the pool, we didn't have one but we purchased one for €2.50 at the Spa reception. Paid beauty treatments are also possible but we didn't have time to try them. The beds are very comfortable and the staff very friendly. In the pool changing room there is also a machine that dries swimsuits! Very useful for those of us who had to leave 12 hours after the swim!

Spotlessly clean room and bathroom. Lots of shelf space in the en-suite, something many hotels overlook.
Excellent staff on reception, in the bar and at breakfast.
We took the train into Galway city. (I was shocked to see how much Galway has deteriorated over the years. It looked dirty and many of the shops and restaurants/bars looked shabby and uninviting).
On the other hand, Raheen Woods Hotel looks great and the public areas are large with comfortable seating.
Breakfast was excellent. A very tasty Full Irish. Good coffee too.
I was surprised to see a restaurant, in the hotel, named after Sir Charles Trevelyan. He of the “Trevelyan's corn” in the song “The Fields of Athenry”.
It was Trevelyan who wrote of the Potato Famine: “the judgement of God sent the calamity to teach the Irish a lesson".
He did very little to alleviate the plight of the Irish people. Though he had the power to do so. The corn referenced in the song was the food surplus which was exported from Ireland while the famine continued.
Is the hotel being ironic in naming an eatery after Trevelyan? It doesn’t seem appropriate to me.
One very minor quibble: the water pressure in the shower was poor and the temperature fluctuated too much.
But one major quibble: no soundproofing between rooms. We were fortunate that we had a sole occupant next door, who kept reasonable hours. We could clearly hear much of his side of the conversation on his phone calls - and we was not shouting.
Having gone to the expense of building a fine hotel and running it well, why skimp on soundproofing?
Despite all the positives, we would not return because of it.

Dear PGB Dublin Thank you very much for your review and for your kind words about our staff and your experience. Yes i agree with you about Galway and can say Covid really did not help. It took away many fine businesses and badly needed revenue for the city. In the hotel we have many rooms named after things synonymous with Athenry such as the Clarin Bistro after the Clarin River that runs through the town, The B52 restaurant after the B52 bomber plain that crashed in Athenry during the war , The DeBurgo Suite after the DeBurgo family that built the castles in Athenry and Trevelyan's Restaurant after the Famous song . Now in this restaurant there is food a plenty for everyone unlike what the song depicts of the horrors that Lord Trevelyan caused. We embrace the past but we make it better for all to enjoy now. We also have the story of what he did at the door entering our restaurant so that people can see what he did but also to realize that they are now going to enjoy a beautiful meal. We would hope you would reconsider a stay with us in the future and ask that if you do to please contact us directly on 091 875 888 for our best rate.

My partner and I booked last minute. Every staff member we met was very nice and couldn't do enough to keep us happy. Breakfast was managed great by 2 ladies who served up all the food and tea and coffee. As our first hotel experience in these strange times it was fantastic and a lovely escape. We will definitely be back!

Circumstances meant we were staying in Athenry for an extended period of time. I stayed on my own In the hotel for a week just before Christmas and then my husband and I visited regularly over the coming months to eat.
The rooms are lovely: comfortable, spacious, with tasteful decor and spotlessly clean. I had explained my circumstances before arrival and I was given a fantastic room away from the bar and function rooms, ensuring that I felt comfortable whilst the hotel was in the mist of the party season.
The food is good, we sampled a variety of: burgers, chicken goujons, smoked salmon parcel, chicken/bacon Caesar salad and a fabulous chowder. They have just introduced an early bird menu which does appear to be very good value and is certainly popular.
Over the past few months we have felt part of the Raheen Woods ‘family’. There are moments in your life that change things forever, with living in another country and having to try to navigate a ‘new normal’, the support received by Eileen, Oisin, Lauren and Shelly has been way above and beyond.
Our circumstances have been different from the majority of guests, however if it the area do treat yourself to a stay and/or a meal. Great hotel, lovely rooms, good food and just the BEST team.

Thank you for your question and yes it was a great summer with some wonderful reviews which are all down to our wonderful staff. They really worked so hard in a very challenging time. No you will not have to book your breakfast as we extend the times for holiday periods and also inform guests about the traffic light system so they are aware of peak times. We also monitor the flow of the room so there is no congregations of people waiting for food and we also offer table service for our continental so this reduces the traffic. We look forward to seeing you soon. The pumpkin pick is a great family event.
Yes, every room has tea/coffee making facilities.
