My wife and I, along with our small dog, stayed here over a weekend in July. Everything was wonderful. We were met by the owner who was very cordial. The rest of the staff were all also very friendly. The location and views of the Rhein and surrounding country were amazing. We were provided a wonderful breakfast each morning and enjoyed our evening meals on the outside terrace enjoying the wonderful views. The room was quite large; however, the staircase getting to the room was quite narrow. There are many hiking trails in the surrounding forest which to explore and enjoy breathtaking views. Overall, it was a wonderful and unique experience.

My husband and I had a wonderful night in this castle hotel. The bed was by far the most comfortable we have ever experienced in Europe. We had an excellent night’s sleep. Several things to note… we stayed in the top floor room #4 which included a living area, bathroom with small shower and bedroom with a very large bed. The Rhein River views are stunning. The room was a bit tricky to get to, up two flights of very steep winding stairs with low ceiling. The staff helped us get our bags to the room by creating a chain and passing them up. Another thing to note is when we arrived by train in the month of December, the website instructions did not work for us. The hotel you walk to for the shuttle was closed. We called the castle and the owner, Nickinig, was kind enough to come and pick us up. He also drove us back to the train station the next morning. We enjoyed the dinner and breakfast service, as well. Dinner is a normal German menu with choices for starters, main and dessert. It was all very tasty and reasonably priced. We would definitely stay again.

We stayed here for a night in late May (2023) while driving up the Rhine. Great experience! Great room overlooking the river and the owners have explicitly appointed the castle to make it feel like you’re staying in a castle (but with modern comforts). Service was excellent. Definitely recommend

We stayed here for 3 nights when we were on the Rhine. The rooms were comfortable and well-decorated to match the castle ambience; the main dining room was particularly impressive. The breakfast was ample, and they provided gluten-free bread for our kids. The staff/owners were friendly and helpful. The dinner food was good. For awareness—the rooms do not have A/C, and the castle is out of the way of most key sites and cities, but we didn’t find getting around by car to be an issue. The price is quite reasonable given what you get for your stay.

This castle was built in the 1200's and is the highest castle on the Middle Rhine River. How it was built and how many people it took to complete the construction with techniques of the middle ages is mind boggling to me. It now features a hotel and a restaurant.

When you want a true Castle Hotel..It looks the part inside and out.Great view of the Rhine and its sister castle, next door. Very narrow staircase. So pack light.Wr did the half board by candlelight, looking down at the ships going up and down the Rhine.

Liebenstein is probably the best deal, as far as castle hotels on the Rhine go. Rooms are amazingly inexpensive! This small castle has an intimate, family-run atmosphere. Rooms are decorated in a clean, airy gothic style - arched windows & all! The dining room is accented with genuine antique weapons and armor. Another castle, Sterrenburg, is just a short walk away!

We stayed in the castle for one night in December. It was a fun experience and my young daughter loved it. The staff at the castle hotel were very friendly and helpful but spoke very little English, while we spoke minimal German. Trying to communicate was half the fun! The lady on the desk was very kind, packing us a lunch to take the next day because we were leaving before breakfast. We had dinner at the castle and were moved to a window table when it became free so that we could look over the town below. The food was lovely. The castle itself is one tower building and the stairs to our room were behind a door that from looking at it, you would expect to be a cupboard! The little winding staircase and the low ceilings and uneven floors made it feel very much the old castle that it is. We didn't see the resident ghost however. The bed was large and the bathrom was quite modern. No TV but it would have seemed out of place anyway. This was a unique experience and we wish we could have stayed longer.

We were so looking forward to staying at Castle Liebenstein. 2 nights were confirmed via a phone conversation. We just had to confirm with an email. Being cautious we phoned to make sure the email was recieved. We were continually asked to call back as email had not been checked. Many calls answered with 'sorry i cant speak english please call another number in 2 minutes' Eventually after a whole day of waiting around and another 7 phone calls we were told someone would call us back. No call. We forwarded our email to 2 other locations found on their website and called again the following morning after still no email response. We were then told only one night was available and asked to email yet another different address to confirm. Finally an email response "Äfter checking our bookings, we are sorry but there is not even one of the 2 nights you wanted available. Sorry for the confusion'. So after much money spent on phone calls and lots of stress wondering if we even have a room to stay in, we are now left with no accommodation at all! Unbelieveable!!

Hello, Would I be allowed to have my medium sized dog stay at the hotel with me? Thank you!

We have a small dog, but I don't believe they would have an issue with medium sized dogs. I believe you bring them along, but I would reach out to the hotel directly to inquire.

We did not experience any spiral staircase at Castle Liebenstein. And staff did assist you up stairs with your bags.

Dear Ellen, thank you for your question. There are outlets available in every room, so it should be no problem to plug the breathing machine in even without an extension cord. If needed we can also provide you with an extension cord. Please be aware of the different power plugs used in the US and in Germany. Beside the form of the power plug it is important to check if your machine can handle the voltage disparity or if you need a voltage converter. Standard voltage in Germany is 220-240 volts whereas in North America it is 110/120-volts. Regarding the parking: If neccesary you can drive your car right in front of the entrance. The parking lot is also right next to castle (max 50 meters to walk). So there is no need to leave your car in town. The drive up to the castle is just a bit steep which can be a bit scary the first time but it's not difficult nor dangerous. Anyhow, if you decide to leave your car further down the road, just give us a call and we'll pick you up. It's totally safe to leave your rental car anywhere aroud here. I hope I could answer you question. If you need further information please don't hesitate to ask us! Best regards, Your Team from Castle Liebenstein
