While on vacation at the Rhine gorge we happened upon a little hotel (Michelin-rated) in the small town of Kamp-Bornhofen. We didn't expect much since the town was very small and our other experiences on the Rhine were not note-worthy. Besides being very reasonably priced, this hotel was clean, comfortable and had a fantastic view on the Rhine from the room. As a bonus, the Chef D'Cuisine is the 4th ranked chef in Germany and classically trained. So while you're lounging in front, enjoying the view, you also get to enjoy some of the finest cuisine in Germany! With items on the menu such as Bouillabaise, trout, Spaetzl, and soups, there's something for everyone to enjoy. We were very sad to leave and seriously considered extending our stay so that we can appreciate more of this fine establishment. Torben (the proprietor and head chef) also owns a bistro down the street which serves pizza, coffee and desserts throughout the day.

We had a 5 night break at this hotel in early July. The hotel its self is a reasonably traditional German 'Gasthof', family run, quite small and with fairly basic amenities. The room we had was at the front of the hotel on the second floor, it was a reasonable size and newly refurbished. The double bed (two single mattresses in a double bed frame) was extremely comfortable, very firm yet comfortable. The bathroom was very clean, good powerful shower, although occasionally fluctuating temperature. Rooms don’t have aircon, so you have to have the windows open, which does mean you hear the traffic, but it wasn’t too bad. The view of the Rhein just across the road makes up for the traffic noise. The hotel doesn’t have a beer garden, but you have a few tables on the pavement where you can sit watching the world go past. Parking is opposite the hotel which is very easy.

What really makes this hotel stand out from anywhere I have stayed before is the staff. They were incredibly friendly and could not do enough for you. The hotel is run by a husband and wife team and I must say they do a fantastic job. Torben is the chef as well as joint owner, and he cooked us the most delicious food every evening. Normally I would only really eat in a hotel once if I had too, but with the food and service we got from the Hotel Anker, we ate in for 5 nights straight..... FANTASTIC !

Was it expensive ? No, not really. Very good value. Room, 3 course dinner and as much wine and beer as we could manage finished of with coffee and local brandy, we paid approximately GBP£65 per head.......
My only regret was not trying the homemade ice cream in a cone, 19 different home made flavours !

We booked directly with the hotel @ www.hotel-anker.com

We will definitely being staying here again, great place !

This was not my first visit to the lovely family run Anker Hotel. I'm sorry I left it so long before I returned as it was even better than I had remembered.
This is a friendly hotel with an excellent restaurant and local wine list.
There is an ice cream parlour where you can sample the home made Italian ice cream, or sit outside in the sunshine enjoying a beer, a glass of wine or a coffee.
Comfortable bed, comfortable room, good bathroom, there is a television, but why would anyone need more than the view out of the window?
The same family also run the Anker Bistro a few hundred yards away with an even better view of the river without the road in between.
I wish I could have stayed longer than the two nights I had booked but intend to return as soon as I can.

We had a family party at the Anker Hotel for a 3 night stay during August. Having stayed here before it was a must that we came back.

This time we had a room with a balcony overlooking the busy room and the Rhein.

It was very comfortable and clean, which is pretty much all you really need. The bathroom looked like it had been recently refurbished and was very clean indeed.

The only downside would be the lack of Air-conditioning, the weather was quite warm and you could only sleep with the windows wide open, which menat you did get a lot of traffic noise as well as boat traffic during the night.

We ate in the restaurant for the 3 nights, whilst the menu has changed / trimmed quite a bit you still wont be disappointed by the quality of the food and the service, all very good indeed.

We also found that the Anker Hotel has opened up a Cafe / Bistro / Ice cream parlor about 200m along the Rhein, unfortunateley we only found this on the last day as the view was great, with no busy road to interupt your view of the Rhein. This would have been a great place to have a relaxing beer before dinner.

A very good value hotel, we will be back again.....

My wife and I spent an evening in one of their barrel rooms "Fasshotel" situated on the banks of the Rhein. Check in was very easy and was done in the restaurant right next to the barrels. The room was very small but very clean. We were the only occupants of the five or so barrels as we stayed during the week. The room consisted of a bed and a bench. The restroom and showers were located inside the Bistro. It was a nice, relaxing evening as we watched the boat traffic along the river. The barrels are located next to a Bistro with outdoor seating and also very close to the parking lot and road. I would assume that it could be very noisy depending upon when you stayed. We opted for breakfast, which was very reasonably priced and served in the main hotel/restaurant, located about 300 meters away, in the main part of the town. There was no wi-fi offered at the barrels. To get wi-fi, you had to go to the main hotel lobby.

We spent 5 days in this hotel which was situated directly on the river Rhein. Our balcony had uninterrupted views to the river; which was very busy with all sorts of ships, ferries, motor yachts and of freighters. The noise was bearable as during the night boat traffic ceased. Our room was very comfortable with excellent bathroom facilities, very clean. Breakfast was typical German fare. The owner of the hotel was also a Master Chef (Kuechenmeister), and dinner was always of a very high standard. The reception could improve - there was none; check-in and check-out was conducted in the dining room. Because of its location and access to ferries, boats, road and rail and the excellent meals we would stay here again...

This 3 star hotel is located directly on the Rhine riverbank. Excellent kitchen and resonable prices.
The Rhine rivervalley is very beautiful, and there is plenty excursions possibilities.
The valley is full of old castles and the Loreley cliff is nearby.
I can warmly recommend this hotel and the location!

Accommodation was clean but basic, all rooms en suite. Downstairs rooms seemed to be more modern.
generally nice bar, and relaxed atmosphere.. Good for walking from hotel to the Rhine. quiet location, although close to railway line. (Railway on both sides of the Rhine)

This wasn't my choice hotel but I was with Just Go Holidays!. We were told that dinner for the night was Euro 30 but after some negotiating with the coach driver, it was reduce to Euro 13 (???). We were told it was 3 course dinner but no explanation so it could have been anything.

My room was at the far end and one of the staff who "sheperded" us to our room was rude and abusive and when I challenge her, she said she is german therefore she speaks this way (???)

My room was small (having paid single supplement, I was not a happy bunny) consisting of a single bed with sinking mattress, damp carpet and a fantastic view of a .... white wall. I wasn't sure of the hotel's policy in allocating rooms to tour groups but some had to stay in the damp basement and others got an apartment to themselves (???). Lucky me also had the room right at the entrance which seems to be the meeting place for a pub outing - the whole night, there were semi-drunks outside singing - even our coach driver had a bad night. The walls are thin and I could hear clearly the next door couple booking a taxi for Dover....

Apart from the view of Rhine Valley when you step out of the hotel, nothing to shout about... You can get that at any hotels there....

I had the pleasure of meeting Torban and Karen (the owners) when I passed through Kamp-Bornhofen on a recent trip. I had the most delicious food, prepared by owner/chef Torban, who was a champion chef in Germany a few years ago! The hotel itself is lovely. There are some huge rooms with water beds and also sauna facilities - which was a real treat after a long day. The hotel has some original and unique barrels by the river Rhine that are just wonderful and worth visiting just to spend some time in those!
If you're looking for great food, lovely warm people and a fantastic hotel that's great value look no further!
Oh... and Torban also makes home made ice cream which is wonderful to enjoy on the terrace that sits in the sunshine right beside the Rhine!
