Difficult to know what further comforts a Guest House could provide more than what's here. Mini-bar in the room, even. The lounge, and some rooms, have a marvellous view over the estuary, the room and bed were cosy, the owner and staff friendly and efficient and the breakfast variety immense including vegetarian choices. Handy location, about 10 mins walk from... More

First, but probably not the last, stay at Number 43. This was a last minute booking as we decided to tack an extra night onto our few days in the lakes. An excellent find and one of the cleanest establishments we've stayed in. Room was spotless (apart from the empty water bottle fallen down behind the dresser under the TV).... More

Hi Jo Thank you for taking time to write a review. Yes Arnside is special, less rain than Windermere, less crowds, more gift shops than Kirkby Lonsdale, great pubs, coffee shops, views and walks, and the sunsets........ And of course Number 43! In case I forgot to mention is also in the Michelin Guide as one of their Extra Special... More

This is a very comfortable bed and breakfast with lots of gorgeous extra touches like homemade biscuits and proper coffee in your room and also soft fluffy robes. Our room was beautifully decorated and everything had been thought of - like a home from home. Breakfast was yummy and freshly prepared - we loved the fact that everything was home... More

This one night visit was our first visit to No 43, paid for by our daughter as a thank you for all our help. At a £130 for bed and breakfast this was not cheap. Me being a Yorkshire man (and we know what Yorkshire men are like with their brass) I did not feel that this was good value... More

Thank you for taking your time to write a review, I am really sorry if you felt I was being assertive however I we do ask all guests to kick off muddy and wet shoes in the hall (as you would do at home), and who wants to share their bedroom with wet coats? Thank you again Kindest regards Lesley More

and we will definitely return. The attention to detail was thoughtful and we both loved the way Number 43 was run. The breakfast was scrumptious and we felt at home. A lucky find for us and I would thoroughly recommend a visit to both this Guesthouse and take time to explore Arnside, if you can, it is beautiful.

On arrival we were greeted warmly and had tea in the lounge overlooking the estuary. Even though it was late June it was a chilly day. When we were shown to our room Lindsey put the heating on which made the room feel cosy. Our room was beautifully decorated and furnished and the bathroom had a bath and separate shower... More

Number 43 has such glowing reviews it was hard to believe such a Paradise existed! OK we didn't find the bathrobes quickly enough and I... More

Very tastefully refurbished and comfortable B&B. Beautiful views to the water, yet conveniently located close to town shops, pubs and station wth parking right outside. Very welcoming to children. Lesley is a wonderful host and did everything to make our stay the most pleasant B&B experience we have had to date.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Last night at The Enjoy England for Excellence Ceremony we were awarded Gold for the Best Bed and Breakfast in England by Visit England. The position here is fabulous: a vast sky, a pretty village, the Kent estuary spilling into Morcambe Bay. Huge views shoot off to the Lake District, where distant peaks take to the skies. You're at the end of the road, more likely to be disturbed by commuting birds than a car, so sit on the terrace and watch the train puff across the viaduct or follow a flock of geese as they sweep through the valley. As for Number 43, interiors shine after a total renovation. You get glossy books and great views in the sitting room, then an honesty bar in the dining room, where delicious communal breakfasts set you up for the day: freshly squeezed orange juice, baskets of patisserie, porridge with honey and sugar, the full Cumbrian works. Bedrooms vary in size, but all are elegant with warm colours, fabulous linen, excellent beds, sparkling bathrooms. Two suites have the view, one has a free-standing bath by the window in its en-suite. ... more   less
