In one word Bello! Before I left Australia I read a book called the “blue zones” which talked about some villages in the middle of Sardinia that had some of the longest living people. Family, quality food and a sense of purpose were just some of the qualities of these people. I really wanted to learn more, so upon arrival at Hotel Gusana I was blown away by the beauty, the peace and the friendliness of the family and owners. The food was amazing, the conversation even better and again the natural beauty of the views of the lake and surroundings was awesome. Would definitely recommend! 👍
This family run hotel may not be the most luxurious, but its friendliness, fantastic setting and very good restaurant combine to make it a very memorable stay. The rooms and facilities are clean and simple. The swimming pool is lovely. The restaurant does not offer a 'menu' but you are served what is cooked that day. There is a limited choice and they do cater for vegetarians. The evening meal I was included in the price of our room and you are offered as much as you can eat. We had a fish based menu one night and meat the next. The food is very, very good! The service and friendliness are second to none and our very, very limited Italian was not a handicap! Would definitely stay again.
If you get the chance to visit the enchanting Barbagia of Ollolai, only 30 minutes from Nuoro, make sure you reserve at least one day to spend on the shore of the Gusana Lake where the Albergo Gusana is located. It offers cozy and ample rooms with stunning view on the lake, a swimming pool and tennis court and last but not least mouthwatering dishes that give you a precise idea of what traditional Sardinian cuisine means. Absolute standout of my lunch: a cured prosciutto that was literally to dye for, not to mention the hearty first dishes.
We stayed at the Albergo Gusana during a ten day stay in Sardinia and loved the 2 day escape from the heat of the beaches into the pleasant temperatures of this strangely wild and beautiful mountain range. The hotel is situated right on the shores of Lake Gusana, one of the biggest lakes in the central Sarndinian mountain range not far from highest peaks which rise to almost 2000m. There are a number of traditional Sardinian mountain towns to explore many of which feature the famous murals. It sits by itself in mountain forests below the town of Gavoi. The rooms overlook the lake and are very clean and well equipped. The hotel has a fantastic 20m pool that you can easily spend a whole day at, also overlooking the lake with plenty of sunloungers and decking. A great attraction of the region (and the hotel) is its cuisine with some of the most original sardinian food that we found anywhere on the island. We really enjoyed the calm and relaxation of the location. Service was very friendly while low key and you get to witness the occasional local Sardinian wedding or family gathering on the weekends. Definitely for those who want to get away from the crowds and the tourists and get to know the interior.…
