We had a great experience here, nice location with easy drives to the Burren Perfumery, the Cliffs of Mohar, Corcomroe Abbey, Poulnabrone Dolmen, Lahinch beach,Ennistymon and Ballyvaughan and Aillwee Cave and a Bird Sanctuary on the same site,Very reasonable accomodation, great location, friendly and helpful staff.
Hostel with options on dorms / family rooms - some en-suites. This place is literally in the middle of the Burren - without transport probably not a great option. There is only the hostel and the pub (which serves food) - if you want nightlife you should look to stay elsewhere. Owner very helpful and obliging. The kitchen in the main building is spacious and well equipped - the dining area can feel a bit small if busy. When I was there it was predominantly families and walkers.
My second stay here as my friends and I take part in the Tour de Burren cycle, comfortable beds, clean facilities, breakfast available, staff very friendly and helpful, everything you could ask for. Definitely will be back again.
Clean & comfortable hostel. Need transport to get there but ideal for families or groups on a budget. Beautiful views from the location. Handy for Ballyvaughan for the start of Burren cycling event, which we and other cyclists were there for.
my friends and i stayed here overnight on the way to Cliffs of Moher. it was a last minute booking and it was mostly booked everywhere nearby as it is bank holiday weekend. the owner Pat was very helpful with our request (2 sets of family and we wanted our rooms to be near each other). if you are looking for modern well equipped place this is not the place for you. this hostel is just right for us, its clean and have a well equipped kitchen. it comes with small breakfast which consists of toast (including homemade brown bread) and cereals with tea or coffee. we brought our own food to cook. i just want to point out that this place is located at the very far end of the road (it took ages for us to get there) where you need your own transport but the view as you drive is beautiful. the main house itself is beautiful (theres a second accomodation beside it). great photo opportunity for selfie lovers.…
This hostel is in the middle of nowhere and it's the only one in the burren so I had to stay there it turned out to be a really bad night weather-wise! The 6 bed dorm was very sparse, there were no sockets in this room, no heating on at all! For 12 people upstairs there was one toilet and one shower! I found it a dreary place to stay and it felt like I was there for nearly 3!! There was a dryer we couldn't use for wet gear and some kind of dehumidufer that was positioned in a corner of the landing where string was strung across the bannisters it took all night to dry my clothes!!! I wouldn't recommend this hostel but if u really have to don't expect too much!!
Stayed here before and really liked it, friendly, no hassle, laid back and a great location. But, this stay i noticed that beer is banned in the hostel at all times..the owner's brother owns the only pub in the area, about 200 meters from the hostel...coincidence or plan tomfoolery? We were looking forward to a beer or two while making our dinner and then off to the pub for a good night...but, this house rule spoiled it a bit. Pity, it is a nice place
Hostel is clean with decent kitchen facilities. Bedrooms have very few power points which is a pain for people with mobile phones to charge. They are also pretty dark, we even tried turning on the lights but it made limited difference. Shower could be a whole lot better set up with a bit more space. Wifi signal was patchy and connection very slow. Pat the owner was very helpful and the local pub is great. But it is difficult not to feel however that for the price a much better standard of comfort could be delivered.
Just back from a ruined weekend in the burren.. as there were 8 adults and 5 kids away for the weekend we checked in to the clare rock hostel at 5 pm to be greeted by the owner listing out rules and regulations about our stay.. he started out by telling us to keep the communal area clean all the while there were un emptied bins from the previous night (s) .. he returned within 2 hours advising that we all had to be in bed by 1030 as there were "other" important guests staying .. repeated issuing warnings about no alcohol even though there was a group of adults and children from another group drinking cans at the bbq area.. i ended up just avoiding the place and just slept there and left as swiftly and quietly as i could.. there are plenty of other welcoming hostels in the region... avoid at your peril.. …
Accommodation average. I would neither return or recommend. as we sat with our children in the communal sitting room, we were told by the owner that he wanted lights out by 10:30, and he wanted us all in bed as he had "important" people staying. (while pointing to upstars) he reminded us that there was no alcohol allowed on the premises, this I could've accepted if, on visiting the games room I hadn't passed another group partaking in a BBQ, while drinking cans of alcohol!!
