We stayed one night here after walking the Routeburn track. The setting is stunning. Just sitting outside enjoying the view was lovely! It's a very special place. We stayed in the wilderness double which they describe as upmarket hostel accommodation - but having stayed in many hostels in NZ, I would say it was better than this. We found everything... More

Thank you for your lovely review. Yes, we have an amazing team and we do really appreciate them. We do our best to bring great value and to create a special experience in our special place in the wilderness. Being remote means a much greater expense to running. We do our best to keep prices as low as viable whilst... More

We picked Kinloch Lodge for its quaint charm and proximity to the Routeburn Track. We were greeted by the friendly bar staff and shown to our heritage room in the original lodge. While small (think 1870 cozy), the room was charming and homey, and well decorated. We had privileges of using the lounge, which had a wood-burning fireplace. Food was... More

Hi Tim Thanks so much for your lovely review. Some people have described the Heritage Lodge as being straight out of the movie 'The Holiday' - it is very special being Grade 1 listed and possibly the oldest guest house in New Zealand. We have all got rather spoiled with our expectations of big rooms and having something small is... More

Hi Cathy, thanks for your review. Really glad you stayed and enjoyed our lovely area. The lake and the mountains right there is truly special. Once you have lived with that you tend to be forever spoiled to live anywhere else. Hope we get to see you again in Kinloch. Take care Toni More

We were there just now and were terribly disappointed ... the views are beautiful but the lodge rooms have a smell of dust so anyone with allergies or breathing issues should note this. The bathrooms are shared.

Hi Sen, sorry that you decided not to stay at Kinloch Lodge. You reserved a backpacker twin room for 105 NZD on Booking.com and as described this does not have an en-suite bathroom. Our carpets are less than 3 years old and are vacuumed every day. The lodge is on a dirt road, perhaps this is the dust you refer... More

Great location! One of the prettiest places i have been too! Great for walking trails and relaxing but not a whole lot else to do, which was good for us. Hi Rase, Thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed your stay. We are having problems with silty water at the moment and have just purchased more filters for the spa. In addition, with the wind we are having a lot of foliage fall into the water as the spa is surrounded by beech trees and native bush. The water is... More

This restaurant is an hour's drive north of Queenstown, along a spectacular lake-side highway, all of which is sealed apart from the final nine kilometres. We drove up for lunch and were rewarded with fine country hospitality, generous servings of tasty local produce, and stunning views of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding ranges. The country fare is simple but fresh... More
