We stayed at Cardamom House for only two nights but were looked after incredibly well by Dr Chris Lucas and his staff - excellent meals, including ‘light lunches’ of soup, fresh bread and fresh fruit when that was what we wanted. The situation is incredibly...More

Cardamom House was a lovely 2-night respite for me after visiting some of the cities in South India. The setting is exquisite: overlooking a lake, hills rising behind, and a lovely garden filled with birds. As a solo traveler, I appreciated the smallness of the...More
Lovely homestay in the middle of nowhere. We stayed 5 nights en-route from Tamil Nadu to Kerala and it provided a brilliant peaceful break after the temples and cities. There is a beautiful lake to walk around, and Athoor village is in walking distance but...More

AN OVERVIEW! Nestling in the Eastern foothills of the mighty Western Ghats, "Cardamom House" overlooks the monsoon dependent "Kamarajar Lake" and is surrounded by unbelievably beautiful mountainous scenery. …MoreRecently we have completely upgraded all facilities and now have a superb modern SWIMMING POOL ; FREE WI-FI ; AIR-CONDITIONING ; NEW THICK SPRING MATTRESSES ; VOLLEYBALL FIELD ; H.D. TV IN COMMUNAL AREA ; CHILDREN WELCOME!!The staff have been working together as a team for some 16 years - and several of them (having visited the U.K) speak English. We are proud of our cuisine which encompasses a wide range of culinary styles (Indian, Continental, Thai, Chinese - and we often 'invent' recipes ourselves! Food is of the highest quality and we purchase only the freshest of fresh vegetables sometimes twice a day - to ensure the 'pick of the crop'.BIRD LIFE AND WILDLIFE? There is an abundance of Birdlfe including peacocks and many others. Leopard, black panther, lynx, jungle cat, bison, sambar, barking and mouse deer have also been spotted from time to time. HOW TO GET HERE? CHENNAI(MADRAS) airport is a 45 minute flight from both MADURAI and TRICHY Airports - both an easy 2 hour drive away. So despite being in a very remote place, we are very easy to get to!THINGS TO DO? Relaxing : walking : photography : swimming : yoga : meditation : Village Tour : Madurai Temple : Kodaikanal Hill Station. In summary - our little "Family Homestay" owned and managed by Dr. Chris - a retired British physician. Cardamom House is a perfect place to 'drop out' and have a truly relaxing holiday whilst being 'spoiled rotten' by our excellent staff. Less
