We were just driving through at lunch time, thought it might be a bit pricey but looked in anyway and it was lovely! Reasonable prices for an interesting menu, they allowed dogs and provided a water bowl, we sat by a wonderful log fire and were served by friendly people. Fantastically old building which we had a quick snoop around,...

Just a one night stay in this incredibly old inn which has a great relaxed atmosphere. A real welcome change from today's chain hotels, this is a very individualistic gem. Our room in the Plaine (the annex across the road) had real character, a very comfortable superking size bed, flat screen TV, good Wi-fi with shower en-suite. Our evening meal...

Great venue, lovely staff, great food but our room wasn't ready on arrival at 3pm and no staff to make up room till 5pm next day. I would expect much more for the cost of the room. Also it is not crystal clear at the time of booking on internet that the king size room with ensuite is across the...

Here for 2 days to visit the area. The Inn is warm (lovely log fires) & friendly with very good food. We stayed in the Monmouth room which was huge. The lighting in that room needs to be improved but this did not spoil our stay. The shower room is small but perfectly adequate - with good lighting.

We stayed in the plain (owned by the George and just opposite) for 2 nights. We ate at the George both nights and had breakfasts there. The food is outstanding in quality and taste. All the staff work extremely hard to ensure you have a good stay and are cheerful and professional. The rooms were clean and bright. The traffic...

My wife and i stayed here recently and I can thoroughly recommend the George. We stayed in their annexe, called the Plaine which was warm, comfortable and well appointed and just a few steps away from the inn itself. The building had character and history to spare and the bars area really great place to enjoy a drink by the...

The building itself is simply breathtaking. The service is amongst the best i have EVER received, the food (lunch and dinner) was first class, the room was simply beautiful and the staff, who were so very helpful in helping me pull off my 'surprise romantic treat' for my partner we're absolutely perfect....friendly, polite and could not do enough to help...

Lots of character however think a little finesse required. Room cold when we arrived as window wide open. No heating on, bathroom tiny. Not told we'd have to pay extra for breakfast, a particular disappointment as the room itself was expensive. Felt like we'd been hoodwinked when we booked as the extra cost could have been highlighted then. They were...

My wife and I stayed the night for our anniversary and had a lovely evening meal. The character of the building takes your breath away and you really feel like you'very stepped back in time. The staff are very friendly and polite and the food is excellent! The full English breakfast was award winning....we will stay again.

We (me, my wife, family and visitors) have eaten and just had drinks here on many occasions - but never stayed, but I think we ought to soon. This day, having spent most of the afternoon in the Fluer de Lys across the road, my wife, son, and his escort, thought it a good idea to visit the George also...
