Guest House in Usa City, Oita Pref, near Usa Jingu Shrine. The owner traveled around the world for 3 years, speaks English and able to guide around the area. The building is traditional Japanese style where you can experience unique and normal Japanese life style with owner family. It is the place where you want to relax after traveling big city, recommend to stay more than 2 days.
I have joined in events held at Naru Guest House on a regular basis for the last 4+ years. The owners Aki and Mika have become great friends and always make me feel welcome. I have also stayed the night on several occasions and every time i managed a good night's sleep in a quiet tatami room. The location is in a popular area with a range of stores and places to see. It is also away from the busy main road so it is a perfect place to relax both day and night. The guest house also has its own onsen bath which was great to use. I highly recommend Naru Guest House for both staying at and for the range of events they organise.
Stayed at this beautiful guesthouse for only 2 nights but I whish I could have stayed longer. The owners were formidable hosts, including Kazuki (the son) who, if you are lucky, will show you some nice pictures of past travels. Furthermore, every week plenty of events are organized, such as a game and 'English night', which were very nice oppurtunities to meet other travellers and locals. The surrounding area has amazing nature and the Hachimangu shrine is beautiful. I highly recommend this guesthouse if you want to meet locals and if you want to stay in an authentic trraditional guesthouse.
Wonderful ryokan with 2 of the loveliest owners you could wish to meet. Aki and Mika did us proud, helping to guide us to the nearest train station, then picking us up in the car. A late arrival after the rugby meant we were rather hungry and Mika was only too happy to make us some food. A lovely traditional Japanese Inn, clean and relaxing - the only disappointment was that our schedule did not allow us to stay longer. Will definitely stay again if we travel to Oita.
After best experiences in 2017 & 2018 it was obvious for me that I came again during my this year`s Japan trip for some days to Usa, to enjoy Aki`s and Mika`s hospitality. One of several wonderful experiences was a day trip organized by Aki to an evening fire ceremony at a Shinto temple. You really get exceptional impressions about Japanese culture. Next April my wife and me will come again to this special home.
If anybody is thinking about a holiday or visit to Japan and wants a genuine and authentic "Japanese Experience", then look no further than the Naru Guest house. The owners, Aki and Mika are the most wonderful hosts - nothing is too much trouble for them and their primary concern is that your lasting impression of Japan is a happy and favorite one. I ate meals with the family at breakfast and dinner (at a fraction of the cost you would pay in any of the local restaurants close by!) The menu?...There isn't one!!!! You eat whatever the family is eating - the only guarantee you had was what ever the 'meal of the day' was it was delicious!! Their 4 year old son, Kazuki, is an absolute treasure - you will not meet a happier, more contented child. It is a 'traditional' Japanese guest house i.e., no beds but wonderful comfortable futons! My room was like the set of a 'James Bond' movie, complete with sliding bamboo doors!! Aki also 'doubles up' as your own personal 'taxi' and 'tour guide' (again at a fraction of the cost!!) I visited many tourist attractions- both natural (waterfalls, hidden gardens, breathtaking vista's etc) and man made (shrines, temples etc) Aki 'local knowledge' of the area was absolutely invaluable in understanding the traditions and culture of this magical, mystical country. I could go on and on but I don't want to spoil the joy of discovery that your visit will generate!!! Thank you Aki, Mika (and little Kazuki) for making my trip - the journey of a lifetime. And to think, I only came for the Rugby World Cup!!!!!…
