I stayed in the Silk hotel during a business trip in Japan close to Nagano. The hotel is nice, the rooms are pretty big. The breakfast offers a large choice of typical Japanese or continental foods. The breakfast is not included in the room price, you have to take it as an extra. This place is ideal for staying in few days.
I have been at this hotel several times. All the staff seems very friendly but only a handful speak English well enough to carry on a conversation. The rooms are a little small as compared to western standards but quite comfortable and very quiet. The breakfast buffet has both Japanese and Western selections. During breakfast if you can explain to the chef what you want they are happy to get it for you but communication can be a challenge. Only a few English sections on TV but the internet is fast enough to stream videos to watch. Clean comfortable rooms make this hotel a winner.
The Silk Hotel in Iida City has recently been remodeled and is now very modern with a good restaurant. The room was very clean with a very nice bathroom. The staff was quite friendly and accommodating to this Yankee. This is a big step up from the New Silk just across the street.
