This Hotel, Restaurant and Bar bill themselves as a top seafood restaurant charging top dollars Well it's not Had a drink in the bar before our meal the barman was quite insistent we put the drinks on the food bill I said no I'll just pay at the bar and was shocked when he told me the price over 4 pounds more than the other restaurant in the village only 100 mts away the barman defended this by saying the Dornie was a superior restaurant haha its not When we got into the restaurant we were told 5 different seafoods were not available yet they were still charging 34 pound per person for their mixed seafood platter that left only 3 items left on it We ended up having salmon which was nice and a very fatty lamb shank Avoid this place
I'm 50 I have never sent a meal back. I will eat anything just about Tonight i sent cold cod and potato back.. not the big issue.. waited 45 minutes for 1 bottle of wine and tasty but rather anemic squid rings, sat with empty starter plates for 20minutes.. The second version of my main arrived in 8 minutes @ 100 degrees with half the fillet missing.. 2nd complaint resulted in an angry owner challenging my decision to not eat reheated fish... not good, tried to provided honest feedback and the issues above upon leaving.. waited 10 minutes in the reception and left I was happy to speak to the owner and explain how i felt but they didn't want to know.. sorry but i never review anything I'm not happy to speak up about. .
We were excited to try the menu in the newly renovated Dornie Hotel and it did not disappoint! Delicious, perfectly cooked seafood, friendly staff and a great wine list to boot, what more could you ask for!
We stayed at the Dornie for one night. Good points: good sized room, very clean, nicely decorated extremely comfortable bed, loch view, very friendly staff. Disappointments: small tempermental electric shower; uninspiring sea food menu ( as a Pescatarian I have never been less inspired) disappointingly average smoked haddock dish, inexperienced staff (will add here that with proper training and support they would be ambassadors for the hotel) and extremely chaotic breakfast! Apparently the Chef was late arriving which meant nearly an hour waiting for hot breakfast and having to ask for fruit juice cereals etc. Again, trying to be fair the waitress who took our orders and acted as Chef did a very good job although people who arrived late for breakfast were served first. The hotel has potential to offer an excellent facility: good location etc. Just needs more attention to detail in training staff and back up plans for absent Chef and perhaps more thought on the Sea Food menu.…
We had a lovely stay at the newly-refurbished Dornie Hotel - our room was stunning with a super king size bed, sumptuous bed linen and quiet outlook over the hills. We were delighted to discover that the Waterside restaurant (formerly in Plockton) is now part of the hotel and we enjoyed some amazing locally-caught seafood and home made desserts. The new proprietors Neilly and Jan were the perfect hosts and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely return in the future.
