In Pietrasanta Palazzo Guiscardo is located in an original Liberty style building that dates back to the 1800s. The hotel has nine rooms all furnished in different ways, with antique furniture and canopy-beds. Soundproofed and independently air-conditioned with marble in the bathrooms enhancing their elegance. The reception and the anbience are those of a private home, with the services of a grand hotel.

Great location, 2 minute walk to centre of town but away from the noise of the centre, staff friendly, speak English, provide free parking permit. Lots of art in the hotel and rooms. Very clean. Only downside is that it's very expensive.

It was such a pleasure to stay in this beautiful hotel.
You are surrounded by great art, beautiful design an astounding marbles, perfect for such a special place
Breakfast was also served very nicely, the staff were great and the shower and amenities top class.

We had a multiple day stay at Palazzo Guiscardo and I have really mixed feelings about this hotel.

The pros: Beautiful small hotel, as other reviews have commented, someone has clearly taken a great deal of time and thought in the décor. The common areas are beautiful except the neglected garden in the back. The rooms are spacious, nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable, the bathtub with jets was great. The breakfast in the morning is nice. The location just one block from the old town center with all its art galleries, shops and restaurants is just super. Pietrasanta is a great area to spend time in -- fun and interesting old town, fabulous beaches, wonderful drives up in to the mountains, lots of villages nearby to explore.

The cons: We booked a junior suite. The description of the room said it included a balcony where we could relax and take our coffee. The confirmation email said the same thing. On check in, we were shown to a room on the top floor that had no balcony. In fact, it hardly had any windows at all. In the bedroom there were just two tiny windows, each about the size of a piece of legal paper. There were some skylights way up in the ceiling but the room still felt like a cave. The street in front of the hotel is a busy one and it is a little noisy in the room as a result.

The room was not really a suite. It was fine but basically just a rectangular room with a desk, chair, night stand and small couch. The air conditioning is controlled by the front desk. Somehow no matter how low we asked them to set the air conditioning (we went as low as requesting 16 degrees Celsius), the temperature in the room never got below 26 degrees, nearly 80 degrees Fahrenheit, very, very warm.

The "Bagno Sandra" the private beach was booked when we checked in. Even though I had inquired about this before we arrived and was assured there would be no problem, we had to find a different beach for the first days of our stay. We did visit Bagno Sandra at the end of our stay and it was nice although at 90 euros per day its' cost is more than double the other, also nice, beaches in the same area.

The lobby has a bar area but it is not separately staffed. The desk clerk, who seems to also be the phone operator, valet and concierge has to run back and forth if you want a drink. We had one drink once but then felt too bad about making the guy run around.

The room staff were very pleasant, the breakfast room guy was great. The front desk staff were a little hit and miss - one was very helpful, another was helpful when pushed a little bit.

Summary: Beautiful common areas in a great location but the rooms are lacking, the service is spotty and it is over priced for this level of service.

Dear GulchFamily, first of all, thank you for your opinion. We always appreciate when our guests take the time to help us improve our service. However, I would like to point out a few things to clarify our position. Most of the beach clubs in Forte dei MArmi are more expensive than Bagno Sandro. 90 Euros may seem a lot, but it is a discounted rate for our guest and it does include a top class service. Other beach clubs in Forte dei Armi charge up to 200 or 300 Euros for the same quality service. Free beaches with no service are also available if you like, it's up to the customer to choose. Our boutique hotel only has 10 rooms, out staff has pleanty of time to safisfy our guest at the reception, at the bar or for room service. A characteristic of our hotel is that all rooms are different from each other. You could read the description for each room on uor website. The room of your choice was a nice Junior Suite, not a Suite, and it didn't have a balcony and it was described in our website exactly as it is. Only two Junior Suites from Palazzo Guiscardo have balconies. We could have arranged a room change if you asked us. We are sorry that your experience with us was not completely satisfactory, but we remember never to have heard complaints from you or your family while you were at Palazzo Guiscardo. We would have done something to help you enjoy your stay, as we always do with our guest! Hoping to see you again soon in Pietrasanta, Best regards Pietro Modica Manager

A very nice, small, privately managed hotel equipped with plenty of pieces of modern art. The rooms are luxurious with individual furniture, huge and elegant marble bathrooms, named according to the marble used. The hotel is located in the city center and all restaurants, bars, art galleries can be easily reached by feet, beach within 5 minutes by car. The staff was well informed, very friendly and helpful. We received good recommendations regarding restaurants and free parking in Lucca. Wonderful Prosecco was served as a welcome gift and breakfast also very good, even with gluten- free bread. We very much enjoyed our stay in Palazzo Guiscardo, warmly recommend this hotel and wish to come back soon, hopefully.

We booked two nights in the hotel and traveling with two children and three adults we were offered a family apartment outside the hotel. We paid for two nights and left after one night. I could do not bear the poor quality of the accommodation.

Here are the facts:
1. The apartment smelled moldy and you could see a wet ceiling in the corridor.
2. Poor matrasses with cheap bed lining. We had to cover with a bed sheet whereby you put a bare blanket on top like I had it the last time when I was travelling as a student on a budget of £20 a night and not $200 a night. The master bed has yellow stains.
3. The fruit basket for €30 we ordered while making the booking had 2 banana, 2 apples, one pear and 5 strawberries.
4. At breakfast, there are NO fresh pressed juices; the fruit looked like it was prepared the day before, NO freshly made yoghurt. My late macchiato came as a black coffee with a can of milk. You have to pay extra if you want to have eggs. From our table I could see an overloaded garbage bin in the kitchen.
5. To reach the apartment, you walk 30 steep steps without the elevator.
6. The shower in the bathroom is tiny and is all made of plastic. The bathroom curtains felt off within hour of our arrival.
7. The beach club has a nice breach and good foord. The prices are the double in comparison to what you pay in other beach club. You do get clean towels and extra towels for the beach.

The paintings hanging on the walls might be pretty, but when the basics such as beds, bathroom and breakfast are of a very poor quality, everything else does not matter.

This has been the worst hotel we ever visited. We booked two nights and left the morning after our arrival without a refund. We stayed in Locanda al Colle 5km away from the city, where you get a breakfast made by a Michelin star cook, luxury bed and bed lining, fresh flowers, warm salt-water pool for less money. In comparison to Locanda al Colle, this hotel is a joke.

Dear Mrs Gifon, We are very sad to read your review and to know that you were completely unsatisfied with our hotel. Instead of leaving one day in advance without saying anything about your dissatisfaction, you would have talked to me. My task is to listen and welcome our Guests in the best way we can. I always try to satisfy every request if only they explain to me their needs. The style of the Apartment is modern and very functioning. If your desire were to have an accommodation of classic design, you would have asked at the time of the arrival. I could propose you a different accommodation, more suitable for your family needs. Being not in high season yet, I had other solutions to propose you. You knew that the apartment was in a dependence of the hotel because it is clearly written on our website and on the confirmation you received by email. Moreover, few days before the arrival, we wrote you an email asking you if you had any special request and repeating again that the apartment was in our dependence adjoined to the hotel, and you have never replied to us. Concerning the condition of the apartment, it has been renewed at the season reopening of one month ago and we painted white, so the smell was not caused by the humidity but by the new renewing. Concerning breakfast, we always receive compliments for our buffet. We serve fresh yogurts, bread, brioches, fresh fruit, cold cuts, cheese, cereals, salmon, different cakes, savory pies, dried fruit, gluten free snacks. On every table there is a menu from where you could have asked for fresh pressed juices or for scrambled eggs that are on request and free of charge, as written. We prefer to prepare fresh dishes at the time of request instead of preparing eggs early in the morning and serve them after hours. Yogurts are fresh because we buy them every single morning. Concerning the beach club, you used the facilities of our bath establishment in Forte dei Marmi without pay anything because they were included in the offer you booked, saving euro 50,00 each day. We do not understand why you complain about it. Concerning the refund, you left the hotel without expressing any complaint, how could we imaging that you were so unsatisfied? You did not gave us the opportunity to recover your trust. I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay in hotel; we work every day to take care of our Guests. We take note of your suggestions to improve the quality of the service, but I am sad to verity that some things you wrote about us do not correspond to the reality. Best Regards Mr Pietro Modica General Manager

We booked this hotel at the last minute and while it is very nice, I felt that £275 for a small "junior suite" which looked out on to a flat roof, disused shed and had large dead plants outside the windows was overpriced. This hotel has limited facilities, no pool or grounds, you park on the street outside and the breakfast area is "cosy" to say the least and there is no restaurant or bar. Service is minimal, information about the town only offered after we asked. It is a chic boutique hotel with modern art on the walls. Breakfast was good and wifi free. Not worth the money we paid but if you got it cheaper it is a clean, beautifully decorated, pleasant small hotel. It is located a short walk from the centre of Pietrasanta which is a really cool and lively small town for a short visit. I agree with a lot of the comments made by reviewer europair - the staff do seem rather absorbed with their beautifully created hotel, almost to the detriment of the service offered to guests. When I pay for an expensive hotel room I expect good customer service and hotel facilities as well as a high standard of decor.

If you are looking for a four-star and romantic hotel, with few rooms and very well located (20 minutes' drive from Pise Airport), go to Hotel Palazzo Guiscardo.
The rooms are spacious, decorated with charm. Receptionists are helpful and speak several languages including some French and English.
Another good point: car park is free.
Should I to Tuscany again, I will go again to Hotel Palazzo Guiscardo. A must see!
