We arrived at a stunning location with beautiful panoramic views across the rooftops to the River Dart and the mill pond. David and Helen gave us a very warm welcome. We had a balcony room that was exceptionally spacious and well appointed. The views at night were amazing with the church and pub lit up and the stars shining overhead, very little light pollution. The breakfast was excellent with a wide choice available and nothing too much trouble. Would definitely like to stay here again.
From the second we arrived until when we left we were looked after perfectly by our hosts David & Helen. The welcome from David was very warm and throughout our stay he was very informative about where to eat and local attractions. He was so caring, checking regularly that our room was OK and that we were enjoying our stay. The breakfast experience each morning was spectacular, the dining room and kitchen are open plan so David & Helen kept up the chat and banter with everyone taking breakfast (the full English was fantastic). We paid for a deluxe balcony bedroom which was brilliant, very high quality everything. The view over the village and onto the river Dart was to die for and we took full advantage of the tables and chairs on the balcony. The Covid 19 protocols in the house were excellent, hand sanitizers everywhere and social distancing in the common areas/ dining room etc. We felt so relaxed during our stay and refreshed when we reluctantly had to leave. We would have no hesitation in staying at Lodgings if we visit beautiful Stoke Gabriel again. Not a complaint but just a suggestion that each room could have its own ‘mini fridge/chiller’ rather than sharing a larger fridge on the landing.…
Wonderful hosts Fabulous accommodation Excellent situation Wonderful breakfasts 5* bedrooms Nothing too much trouble Thorough local info Just cannot fault any aspect WELL DONE DAVID & HELEN Just loved your home from home
We've just returned home after wonderful, wonderful stay at Stoke Gabriel Lodgings! We had a lovely warm welcome on arrival by Helen, who greeted us on the steps of the property as if we were family and immediately made us feel at home. Our room was larger then expected, tastefully furnished & decorated and immaculately clean. The hospitality tray in the room had the luxury extra of a cafetiere with a supply of fresh ground coffee & fresh milk! No sachets of instant ground coffee and UHT milk cartons here! I highly recommend booking a room with a balcony as the view across the village and towards the river is breathtaking. ( We stayed in room 2). Great care has been taken to ensure guests feel safe in these 'Covid Secure' times, and the rules put in place to ensure this have been very tastefully and sympathetically managed, resulting in a very comfortable, safe and relaxed experience. After a great night sleep, we had the best breakfast ever!! We were spoilt for choice with the superb range of cereals, fresh fruit and juices to choose from and the deliciously tasting, freshly cooked breakfast by David & Helen was the cherry on the top of the cake! David and Helen are the most genuine and hospitable of hosts, and we will certainly be making another visit here.…
On arriving we had a very warm welcome. We stayed in a room with a balcony which had spectacular views of the river Dart and Stoke Gabriel village. Helen and David were very nice and took an interest in our holiday to make sure that information about the surrounding areas were given. David had printed us off a list of places to visit on days the weather was not too good which was very useful to both myself and the family especially with having children/young adults in the party which allowed us to cater for all interests. Clear guidance was given throughout to meet current guidelines hand sanitizers were located throughout, hygiene was maintained throughout and social distancing carried out. Breakfasts in the morning were very good with a wide variety of choices also a really nice atmosphere interacting with other guests in the breakfast room which had a family feel to it. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be going again. Anyone wanting to experience a 5* accommodation and a lovely surrounding area this is the place for you. Thank you Helen and David.…
Just back from a lovely stay with David and Helen in their beautiful home. Very welcoming and friendly hosts. In these strange times, they clearly took all necessary precautions to keep us safe. The accommodation is immaculate and our spacious and extremely comfortable room had stunning views of the village below and the Dart estuary. Nothing was too much trouble and breakfasts were worthy of their 5 star rating. Two thirds of their guests are repeat bookings and it is easy to see why.
With the Covid restrictions lifted, we booked this B&B last minute, and boy what a fantastic find. The location was superb, as was our view from room 3, river facing. The room, bathroom & private terrace were all excellent, as was the whole B&B, with free off road parking. With Covid restrictions & conditions in place, the lovely hosts did an excellent job in making all the guests feel welcome and at ease so they could all enjoy their respective breaks in the wonderful surroundings of the river Dart, Totnes - Dartmouth area, and before I forget, the breakfast choice and service was probably the best I've experienced.
Our first stay in Stoke Gabriel Lodgings and what a fabulous week we have just had. A wonderful property - luxury at its best! If you are looking for a true 5* B & B, then look no further. The bedroom, with its own balcony overlooking the pretty village and the river, was beautifully furnished with all the little extras that make saying away from home so special. From the hospitality tray to the ensuite wet room - every detail thought about. David and Helen were lovely hosts - extremely helpful with tips about days out, and their teamwork cooking delicious breakfasts was a joy to see. (Pete is already missing the black puddings!) So, if you're wondering where to book - don't hesitate with Stoke Gabriel Lodgings - you absolutely won't be disappointed!
Out first time at Badgers Retreat and it won’t be our last. A lovely setting and the perfect place to relax. Many of the guests had stayed before and I can see why. Badgers Retreat is a lovely modern building set high above the village, with some balcony rooms to take advantage of the river views. We booked at the short notice and got the last room, but they are all well appointed with everything you need - and we had an enormous bathroom ! The breakfasts were pitch perfect with a good selection of local produce. Nothing was too much trouble, and both David and Helen had a good knowledge of the local area. We will be back. Ps - thanks for posting back the cashmere shawl we left behind !
We had 3 nights stay in this wonderful B&B and so enjoyed the peace and tranquility away from our currently 'mad world'! Both Helen and David made us feel extremely welcome and we felt like we were long lost friends. The building and furnishings are simply stunning and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Our bedroom (no.2) was very tastefully decorated and furnished with quality furniture and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. We had amazing panoramic views from our balcony of the River Dart and the village and enjoyed sitting out each evening. Breakfast was a feast with all tastes catered for and the fresh filtered coffee was extremely good! 'Badgers Retreat' is situated in a perfect location for exploring the delights of Devon, and Helen and David are a fountain of knowledge about places to visit. We can wholeheartedly recommend a stay here and given the current restrictions we feel that nothing more could have been done to make us feel more safe. Huge thanks for a wonderful stay, best wishes, Alusia and Mike Lewis.…
