Expect all the services of a chain hotel but the bed. In a twin room one bed was firm yet comfortable, what you would expect in Japan, the other was designed to torment. Harder than a futon and closer to a cement floor. After one night we asked for another mattress and they obliged so we both had a good sleep. There is a delightful restaurant next door - Dining Kitchen. Good food and a generous host.
We stayed here to do the Nakasendo trail and although it was a bit out of town, it was a nice hotel to stay at and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a local bus that stops across the road from the hotel that takes you to the train station and the staff will give you a detailed information sheet on where it is located. It's easy to catch the bus. When you enter through the rear door take a paper ticket from the machine that has a number on it and this will determine the fare you pay at the end on the screen at the front of the bus. We used the bus a couple of times but we also walked to and from the town which was a pleasant walk ( 30 minutes) along the small canal with a section of the old Nakasendo way running along it.
Don't know why the room rate is so high for a place out in the sticks and inconveniently located for the train station. However the room is reasonably big with twin beds. Bathroom is ok and aircon is very good and controllable too. The big surprise is the hotel restaurant with fabulous food and very cheap too. Staff are usual friendly and very efficient.
Staff very welcoming and informative about transport options to and from the railway station. Front-office staff went out of their way and took all the time to make sure that all information was clear to us. Room very clean and all amenities available. Breakfast was a delight and started 30 minutes before published times, very nice as we had to leave early. Complimentary Coffee and Tea in Lobby also available before start of breakfast. Location from the railway station is approx. a 10-min taxi ride and the building is not very charming, but the friendly service certainly makes up for this. Well done !
we stayed here to be close to the station for our Naka Sendo Hike. Unfortunately close meant having to take a taxi back and forth. It's a very minimalistic room, including a harder-than-the-floor bed and a tiny, and not much softer, pillow. Beds seem to be generally on the firmer side in Japan, but this one was extraordinary hard, but no give to it whatsoever. Impressive.
We enjoyed our stay there, where we stayed in order to do the Nakasendo trail in the following morning. The apartment is very clean, but the location is not so good since the hotel is about 4km from the JR station. After 6pm, there is no bus available, so it must be reached by taxi or walking. It is very clean as almost everywhere is Japan. Staff is helpful, but communicating in english is difficult. Bus schedule provided by the hotel was not updated, but that was not really a problem since we were in a big group and it was almost the same price to use a taxi (per person value) and we decided to go for it.
What’s good? (a) Rate per night is very reasonable. What more can I say? The rate even comes with a Japanese cum Western buffet breakfast and a simple onsen on the ground floor. The room maybe small but it is more than adequate for a good night sleep. (b) Cleanliness. I cannot fault the hotel in any way. (c) Location. Within 10 mins by bus from the Nakatsugawa train station. From hotel to JR Nakatsugawa (or vice versa), it is Y230. What could be better? Perhaps the hotel could consider having some English information pamphlet about the nearby places of interest and getting around. Note: The bus stop to Nakatsugawa train station is after the traffic light junction to the right of the hotel next to the Kahma Home Centre. A highly recommended tourist spot is Magome. The bus fare is Y560 from JR Nakatsugawa station to Magome. One may also wish to walk the 10km Nakasendo trail from Magome to Nakatsugawa (downhill most of the way), although I should highlight that the signages are unclear at times along the trail.…
We booked this hotel at the last minute, to stay over the Easter period, as all the places that we would have preferred to stay at in Tsumago and Magome were fully booked. The hotel was clean and comfortable (except for the pillows!), the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful (as most people in Japan are), and the location close enough to Magome to do the Kiso Valley walk if you have a car (which we did), or are prepared to take a taxi. We had dinner at the restaurant and found the food to be good and reasonably priced, and the staff again exceptionally helpful in trying to explain the food on the menu to us. Breakfast was Japanese style and basic, but ok.
We traveled as a couple staying at the hotel for 1 night on our way to Nakasendo trail. Since the hotel is a far from JR Nakatsugawa station and it was late, we took a Taxi to the hotel. In the morning we went back to the station by bus. The room was clean, equipped well, but a little bit small. Breakfast buffet was good, western and Japanese style. Exactly what we needed.
