Detailed Reviews
Myself and my family stayed here for a weekend to celebrate a birthday and it exceeded all our expectations. The house is spacious, modern and tastefully decorated but feels very homely at the same time. The proprietor is very friendly and her local knowledge knows no bounds. She baked the best homemade brown bread for us. The bedrooms are large and restful but the highlight has to be the shower. It was unreal. The beds are very comfortable too. Location wise the property is situated about a 10m walk to Rosscarbery and is a perfect base for touring West Cork. I would highly recommend deBarra Lodge for anyone wanting to stay in a luxury yet homely property and experience hospitality that you will want to return to time and time again.

Stayed with my son for his birthday. The room was spacious, warm and cosy. Spotlessly clean and the beds were really comfy. Wifi worked, and my son took advantage of the various sofas in the common areas to chill out in. The owner couldn’t have been more welcoming, we arrived in the midst of a storm, she made us drinks and lit the fire in the lounge for us. She recommended a lovely restaurant called the fish basket just a couple of miles down the road for dinner, which we went too - equally good. The breakfast was better than most hotels I’ve stayed in with lots of fresh fruit, yoghurts ets as well as full Irish. She made my son feel even more special by bringing him a little birthday cake with a candle and hand written iced message.

Myself and my wife stayed in De Barra Lodge for 7 nights while we explored the South West of Ireland. From the initial very warm welcome to the last farewell I would have to say that our host Sinead played a blinder. The accommodation was spotless, modern and very comfortable. The breakfast was superb. Sinead's advice on places to visit and local restaurant recommendations were invaluable. The quality of service was simply excellent. We have no hesitation in recommending De Barra Lodge as an excellent example of the best of Irish B&B offering.

We visited Rosscarbery as part of the Network Ireland Annual Awards, and the hotel there was full so this Guesthouse was recommended to us. After staying here, I now think the hotel has some serious competition!!
The building is beautiful, so well kept, modern yet homely. Surrounded by the countryside, it’s secluded but 5 mins from Rosscarbery town. The rooms are private and comfortable, very spacious too.
The big attraction for me is the welcome - Sinéad is naturally hospitable. She genuine looked after us and took the time to chat and get to know us. The breakfast is something to be savoured....I’d go back for Sinead’s breakfast alone!! She was even kind enough to drop us down to the conference that night also.
We really enjoyed our break here and would love to come back again 🙂

We stayed 3 nights with our daughter meeting up with friends also staying in Rosscarberry. As my daughter commented (when she wasn't raving over the pancakes and syrup she had for breakfast!) more like a hotel than a B&B. Lovely quiet location yet within walking distance of Rosscarbery and the lagoon. Clean, comfortable room. Especially comfotable beds, large ensuite with an amazing shower. All absolutely spotless. The home baked treats at breakfast were amazing, sure I put on a few pounds during our visit!
Have to comment on the friendly, helpful owners who made us all feel so welcome. Thanks, especially for the box of chocs left in our room when our daughter mentioned our wedding anniversary. That's what I call the personal touch.
Don't be surprised if you see us again!

My partner and I stayed here for one night while attending a wedding at the Celtic Ross Hotel. I’m not normally a B&B kind of person because they usually lack the same quality & facilities of nearby hotels, but I am extremely glad to report that the deBarra lodge rivals even some of the 4 star hotels we have stayed in both at home and certainly abroad. When writing reviews for hotels, I usually go through the whole experience in great detail from check in right down to if the windows were dirty. Only one adjective needs describe our experience, outstanding.
We got a lovely warm welcome & as we were under time pressure to get to the hotel, we were kindly shown to our rooms, dropped our bags and Sinéad immediately got Dan to drive us into the hotel. Our room (No 5; double & single bed) was large, comfortable, furnished to the highest standard (everything from the carpet to the curtains) and very quiet. The bed was the best bed I’ve ever slept in (no word of a lie!!) with welcoming clean crisp white sheets, finished with a golden throw. The bathroom was large with a shower in bath, hot water on demand and large clean soft towels were also provided. There was a large lounge / TV room with tea and coffee facilities across the hallway for guests use. The breakfast room catered perfectly for a full house without rubbing elbows of fellow guests. Even the breakfast menu was brilliant with choice of full Irish, continental, cereal, fresh fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice etc. It was pure quality.
The deBarra Lodge is only a stone’s throw from the wedding hotel which suited us perfectly. We asked at the hotel reception for a taxi back to the deBarra Lodge and ashamedly The Celtic Ross Hotel provided us with a rip off merchant charging us €10.00 for a 3 minute drive (1.2 miles). We had every intention of giving our driver a €10 note as it is a tough industry to work but this chap decided to include his tip in the fare and overcharge us for the journey. I personally found this to be a despicable act. However this did not take away from our stay at the deBarra Lodge in anyway. We are delighted we did NOT stay at the hotel and when in that part of the country again we wont be then either.
We have decided to take a number of weekend breaks in Ireland rather than go abroad this year and without a shadow of a doubt we are delighted to be paying for such Irish warmth, quality, attention to detail and it’s a joy to see a family take such pride in their work. We will most certainly be back to the deBarra Lodge and hopefully for more than one night this time.
Thank you Sinéad & Dan

Sinead and Dan are lovely people and I would like to think we ended up as friends. To be honest, there is absolutely nothing that I could find fault with: De Barra Lodge has stunning views, is as immaculate and clean as is humanly possible (frighteningly so!), the bed and bedrooms are beyond impressive, the welcome was warm and genuine and the rates charged represented super value. I have only one complaint - we all put on nearly a stone each after all those fabulous breakfasts...P.S. We were even entertained by their two gorgeous children during our stay!

Stayed for one night in De Barra Lodge, as we were attending a wedding in Glandore. The owners offered to drive us to the Wedding venue if we wanted to leave our car behind! The house is stunning and the rooms likewise, immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and it was a very pleasant stay. My partner left his kit bag and wallet behind and Dan dropped it back up to us, very kindly taking time out to drive from west cork to the city to return it. Its an excellent guest house, I usually prefer to stay in hotels but after this stay i'll be looking more to guesthouses as a place to stay. Thanks so much for everything, i'll be recommending you to all my friends and family!

My wife and I had a short trip to County Cork in July 2010 to visit family.
We had a three day stay in West Cork and stayed at Dan and Sinead's deBarra Lodge.
The BnB is in a fantastic location just up the road from Rosscarberry village and within easy access of the stunningly beautiful West Cork coastline. The accommodation is spotless, the breakfasts are excellent and Dan & Sinead couldn't be more welcoming.
The deBarra Lodge is only a couple of miles from the Michael Collin's Museum just outside Clonakilty and the coastal villages of Baltimore and Union Hall are only short drives away.
We had no complaints and would have no hesitation in recommending this splendid BnB which feels more like a hotel than a "front room job".
