The Celtic Ross Hotel is often celebrated for its clean, comfortable, and spacious rooms, although a handful of guests suggest they could benefit from modernization. Its warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with a prime location near scenic spots and attractions, makes it a favored choice for both relaxation and adventure. While the service and amenities generally receive high marks for their quality and friendliness, some visitors have experienced inconsistencies. The hotel's value is a point of contention, with guests appreciating inclusive packages but questioning additional costs and food prices.

I stayed for one night in this hotel. First of all the receptionist staff could of of been more friendly, kind and helpful. They started off our holiday well when we were greeted.

We had a group of 5 so we had a double and triple room. As we were all together we requested rooms be beside each other however the hotel told us they couldn’t guarantee they would be beside each other but could guarantee they would be on the same hallway however the rooms weren’t on the same hallway and were quite a distance away from each other.

The rooms were very nice and clean. A fan was provided which was excellent and well needed due to the high temperatures. The room was very cosy and the perfect temperature. The bathroom was lovely and had lovely lighting.
There was no kettle or tea and coffee provided as usual in a hotel. There was a note stating tea and coffee would be provided on request.
There was no hair dryer in the room which I think was a big inconvenience as I had a shower and only realised there was no hair dryer there until after the shower. We were lucky we brought our own hair dryer.

Our breakfast was lovely and had great variety. However we did not receive our toast until after our meal was ate and this was because we requested it for the second time. We asked for tea and coffee which was never given to us. A second pair of knives and forks were not given to those who had a fry and pancakes to avoid savoury and sweet mixing. We were told we wouldn’t be charged to speciality coffee ie Americano and cappuccino but then we were charged 3.50 each for those coffees.

Our dinner was lovely and very filling. The menu was a bit basic ie chicken supreme, streak, burger, 2 fish options and a vegan option. There was no pasta dishes and nothing very exotic ie curry etc. The menu was a bit pricy. Cheapest main course was 16.50 for beef burger and 16.50 for fish and chips. Everything else was more than 16.50

We had a lovely stay and the hotel staff were so kind and helpful. The receptionist staff even went so far as giving us towels for the beach, as we had none and then we just had to bring them back later that day.
There is a few things the hotel could improve on to make the stay more enjoyable but overall I would give it a 8/10.

We spent three nights in the Celtic Ross. From the start we were impressed. The staff, without exception, were welcoming and helpful. The cleanliness was of a high standard. Staff wore masks and the room had been sterilised and sealed before we went in. The organisation of every aspect - from booking meal times, choosing from the breakfast menu, and sessions in the leisure centre- was great and much appreciated. It was so nice to sit down to be served breakfast, rather than having to hop up periodically to go to a buffet. While we enjoyed the two dinners we had there, we felt the main courses could have been a bit more exciting but other than that all was perfect. It is well positioned for some nice walks and there is interesting bird life in the bay across the road.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Lovely helpful staff and spotless rooms, but the implementation of COVID regulations overtook everything else. We were told we couldn’t get a jug of water to the table “you know, because of...” only half glasses of water at a time so you had to keep asking for more and yet it was ok to have a milk jug on the table and a tea pot. No hairdryer in our room, no tea making facilities, when we asked for tea to be brought up we were then charged for it. Our room wasn’t cleaned during our stay, not sure if this is general COVID 19 policy in all hotels, possibly, and that isn’t really a big issue, but you could only go in this way and through this door and not the other door and only up in the lift and down the stairs so we had to trek all our stuff down 3 flights of stairs at checkout, even the outside areas had restrictions about who could sit where, residents only non residents only, it was overwhelming, disconcerting and just made you want to spend as little time there as was possible. We then went on to a different hotel and while they were obviously adhering to regulations there as well the hotel had received the covid safety charter mark, it was just not so draconian. It still felt more like a hotel. I fully appreciate the huge challenge of running hotels at this time, it is a logistical nightmare, new rules, staff training, compliances changing all the time, HSE regs FSAI regs the list is endless, but you’ve surpassed yourselves in that department, no one will get sick in your hotel but if you tone it down just a little, just take it down a notch, people might be able to actually relax and enjoy the time there as well as keeping safe.

Many thanks for staying with us and thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are delighted to read your feedback on our team and the cleanliness and we thank you for the 4 star rating. We were very disappointed with the negative reaction to our Covid-19 compliance however. There is a lot in this e-mail and I was delighted to see that you have dropped me a line with a direct message. Sincere apologies, I did not receive an alert so I have just seen this recently. I will be in touch! Rather than go into things point by point (I will leave that for when we talk/e-mail) I will only say that, above all else in these times, the safety of our guests and our staff is key. We are sad that you felt it was over the top, but when we see the rising cases now, we feel it was the right approach. That said, we do not wish for your enjoyment to be taken away so we will be happy to review your feedback and discuss it with you. It is an immensely challenging time to operate but our team have done us proud and when we engaged with them as to our procedures post lock-down they embraced this new normal, what's more they thanked us for being so thorough. Indeed many of our guests have been back multiple times already such is their feeling of safety. Despite not being 100% happy we do thank you for the balanced review and rating as reputation is everything, thank you! I will reach out in due course now that I have your details and I look forward to speaking with you. Again, apologies for the slight delay. Kind Regards, Neil Grant General Manager

Public areas of hotel are very well kept and modern. We were in standard rooms and that is a very accurate description of them. The first morning we were woken at 5:30 with bins being collected, 7:15am was bottles being collected and then a gardener started with a chainsaw at 8:30. Woken early again on the third morning by bin collection but that was nearer 6:30am. I would definitely recommend earplugs for people staying in the standard rooms at the rear of the hotel. We ate in the hotel on 2 nights. The menu was very restricted for us and the four of us could only choose two of the dishes on offer. The following night we had friends join us for outdoor dining which unfortunately was the same menu and we had to eat the same dish again. The service was very bad and the drinks order was totally mixed up and very delayed. After dinner drinks were also delayed and I was about to request them a third time when they arrived. Service on two mornings at breakfast was very slow. One morning service was fine so it proved it is possible! Rooms were not serviced for the duration of our stay. We have stayed in other hotels over the past 18 months and, if the room was not fully serviced, we at least had fresh towels. Covid cannot be used as an excuse for everything. The hotel is in a fabulous location and is perfect for exploring West Cork.

Dear Valerie S, Firstly many thanks for staying with us and thanks also for letting us know of your experience. I am very sorry it was not the most pleasant one:-( I won't go into too much detail as I know you chatted to my Operations Manager Robin. We were so appreciative that you made the time to chat to Robin and I know he enjoyed getting the opportunity to go through your experience in person, so to speak. Safe to say that we have taken on board all of your observations and are making improvements, as Robin explained, to make the visitor experience much better. Bin lorries and gardeners sometimes have their own agenda, one that does not take account of a guest so we have chatted to both parties to set up new procedures to ensure that your experience is not repeated!! I am very sorry that, as a hotel, we were not more on top of this. Breakfast has on the whole run very well, there is no doubt however that new systems of work can have there ups and downs so we are trying to support the team through this whilst ensuring that systems are followed. The team are great, they are doing their absolute best and we think that breakfast is running really well now. Sincere apologies that your experience was not as it should have been. We do look forward to seeing you again in the future and we are grateful that you gave us your time, we really care deeply about looking after our guests and giving them a memorable experience so thank you most sincerely. Kind Regards, Neil Grant.

The hotel was very nice. It was clean and followed Covid guidelines. We had a lovely check in experience and the receptionist was very friendly.
Our room was uncomfortably warm when we checked in. There was one fan in the room when we checked in. After showering we asked to move rooms but unfortunately there were no other room available - we were given a second fan. This helped but the room was still too hot. The bathroom was a sauna. Our first nights sleep was not good. The next morning we asked to move again but there were still no rooms available. This time an air conditioner was added to our room. This was a game changer and the following two nights were so comfortable. When we called for tea/coffee or dressing gowns we were not waiting long - very prompt housekeeping.
The pool is really nice and clean.
Overall I would definitely stay here again. The hotel is very family friendly.

Having been impressed during a previous stay with how effectively the hotel had implemented Covid-19 safeguards we felt it was the appropriate choice for our latest short break. The Celtic Ross more than lived up to expectations in every way, with excellent food both at breakfast and dinner, great staff offering a friendly and professional service, and a continued strong focus on keeping everyone safe while at same time maintaining a lovely atmosphere.
While I'm tempted to give a shout out to specific staff members I think this would be unfair as everyone looked after so well.

This hotel really punches above its weight in so many ways, with the quality of the cuisine, especially at dinner, an absolute highlight. Keep up the excellent work, we'll be back!

Had a one night stay here over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel, From check in to check out was very professional and well run even with the covid restrictions. The staff could not do enough and we felt safe in these testing times. The package we booked included breakfast and an evening meal which was great value. The restaurant is boxing above their weight, the Popcorn pork was excellent. Staff and management were a pleasure to deal with and the way the hotel has handled the covid situation should be an example to others. Well done Celtic Ross, We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

We stayed at the Celtic Ross Hotel in July 2022 for 3 nights b&b and 1 evening meal for 3 people. Our daughter is disabled and needs all disabled facilities in the bathroom and bedroom and we weren't disappointed here. Everything was catered for in her separate room 110. I would recommend though that wheelchair parking is clearly marked with a post and sign for blue card holders only as we have found at several other hotels that people ignore a wheelchair painted emblem on the ground. Also I would suggest that a save should be installed for each room. Thank you to the wonderful staff for an excellent stay.

We have stayed in Celtic Ross a number of times previously but this was first time in over 2 years because of pandemic. Family of 6 with kids from 2 years to 16 years. We all stayed in family room to reduce cost and stayed on a 3 x B+B with 1 x evening meal package.
We have always loved staying in the Celtic Ross and this time was no different. The hotel, the location, the staff, the food and the leisure centre are all excellent in our opinion. The breakfast is not a buffet presumably because of the pandemic but there is still wonderful choice and portions are big to get you set up for a busy day. The staff are friendly and efficient and give the impression that nothing is too much to ask of them. The pool has to be booked but was quiet each time we were there so our lads had great fun in it.
With the beautiful Warren beach approx 2 mile away and the cliff walk to Owenahincha beach, the beautiful lazy village of Rosscarbery a few minutes walk away, and even a good sized playground for the kiddies in the village, this is one of our favourite spots in Ireland for short breaks with the whole family. Can't wait to go back again next Easter.

For a sit down meal our offering in the Kingfisher Bistro is probably most suitable. Nolan’s pub do a nice lunch and the Fish Basket in Long Strand is good too but outdoor seating. Our friends in the Emmet Hotel Clonakilty are great for family dining and Smugglers Cove do Pizza and Burgers etc.

Not without food unless ordered to the room. If you have a dish for €9 you may have a drink, you may also have a drink an hour before and an hour after a meal. Hopefully this will change on 10th August.
