This was part of a suggested itinerary and when I checked it out I was really excited to be staying here. Tarraleah is literally an entire village converted into accomodation for tourists. We stayed in the Architect cottage. It actually faced towards the mountain and the hydro electrical pipes and it was a magnificent view. The cottage itself is 3...

Tarraleah is a small town in the Central Highlands of Tasmania 126 km north-west of Hobart. The township was built in the 1930s by the Hydro Electric Commission. The town was abandoned in 1990's but was recently restored to its beautiful original art deco style. We stayed in one on the houses with my daughter, son in law and their...

I, too, saw this town reviewed on TV and has been on my agenda ever since. Been visiting different regions of Tassie since 2012 and finally got to the Central Highlands. It didn't disappoint. Stayed in #14 - the Engineer's Cottage. Three double bdrms and two bathrooms. Bedrooms air conditioned with reverse cycle. Large lounge with fire place. Large kitchen....

Stayed with 3 persons in cottage 11, and it was amazingly big and luxe. Everything you need was at hand, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, fully equipt kitchen, washmachine and, -dryer. It was a shame that, as many others, were only passingby on the way to Hobart. It sure is a interesting place in the hydro history and there was a...

I have seen Tarraleah on many travel shows but it is only when you get up close and personal that you realise the size and sheer amazing determination to construct a pipeline and town that seems just as it was back in the 1930's. All of the cottages are exactly as they would have been then but on the inside...

First time ever in Tarraleah, but it won't be the last. We stayed one night here recently and was very impressed with the cottages, ours had a view over the valley which was beautiful. The cottage we were in also had two main bedrooms with comfy king size beds and a third bedroom with single beds. They are all renovated...

Its a whole street of vintage homes. Ours was no 12, with 2 double & 1 single bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry, kitchen , dining, sunroom, outdoor setting in the backyard- everything except an open restaurant. It seems we arrived in the off season, which was the same reason given a few years back when we visited [in February]..... maybe next...

How beautiful this little place. Spotlessly clean well maintained cottages and town. Management were helpful and friendly. Our teenage daughter was disappointed without her wifi but enjoyed the activities. Prices were reasonable and the beds comfy. The 3 heat pumps were on when we arrived and the wood fire set ready for us to light. The reasturant was closed at...

We turned off the main road looking for some last minute accommodation late one night. We were the only ones there along with another couple of ladies who were in the same situation as us. Management advised us that even though the restaurant was closed (due to it being off peak season), there was accommodation available if we had food...

We had a week in Tasmania self catering at 3 different places as a family of 6, grandparents, parents and 2 children. We found the cottage at Tarraleah which was our last one, a lovely house but very spartan. The other places we stayed had far more dishes, utensils etc in the kitchen, this had the bare minimum. We had...
