We stayed at La Frateria as part of a trip to Italy. To this day I still rave about our stay at La Frateria. Why? Where do I start, the beautiful, peaceful surroundings, the gardens, the simplistic bedrooms, the wonderful food and service and the whole concept of training at-risk teens on how to cook, garden and the hospitality industry,... This is not for anyone looking for a typical hotel experience. If you are looking for NOT a typical hotel experience, this is not just the place to go, it is not to be missed. This is not a hotel. It really is a monestery. There is no front desk, no room service, no bar, no pool, no fitness center,... More

One of the best places we have stayed in. It is a monastery established in 1212. The community, which runs it is very service oriented. It is under command of padre Eligio and you can feel that the spirit of the place is quite different compared to purely commercialy run places. The food is also excellent. Although the chef Walter... A truly wonderful experience -- this was a return visit, having stayed at La Frateria eight years ago for a single night, which was not enough. It is certainly not cheap, but worth every penny to experience not just slow cooking but slow living - the monastery itself having been rebuilt, along with its lovely gardens (with woodlands and wild... Recently we were on a trip in Italy staying at a villa near Citta Della Pieve, Umbria. We stayed at the wonderful Podere Baicco Villa with 8 or so friends. A wonderful experience in it's own right. We noted before going on the trip it was close to Mondo X, a restaurant that has been on my radar for about... More

My wife and I stayed at La Frateria di Padre Eligio during a week's trip to Tuscany to celebrate her 40th birthday. We had been recommended to eat at the restaurant at La Frateria but decided to stay overnight too. The building is a restored convent originally constructed in the 13th century but it is set in such a peaceful,... More

We stayed at La Frateria during our 25th anniversary trip to Rome and Tuscany and it was definately the highlight of our trip! It is a beautiful peaceful place. Everyone there went out of their way to make us feel like we were the most special guests to ever stay with them. The beautifully presented meal prepared by chef Walter... More
